Van Buren County Sheriff’s officers paid a visit to a home in Hartford Township, Mich., Thursday after they received information about a girl who was missing from Polk County, Fla. She was last seen Tuesday, July 7, The Daily Ridge reported. It was at the residence that sheriff’s deputies found the girl and the suspect, 23-year-old Aurelio Hernandez-Gomez, of Chiapas, Mexico.

Officers suspect Hernandez-Gomez sexually assaulted the 13-year-old girl. Law enforcement officials reported the suspect entered the United States illegally and contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) about Hernandez-Gomez and the ongoing investigation.
Hernandez-Gomez was arrested on criminal sexual conduct charges and was transported to the Van Buren County Jail, where he is being held on no bond, The Ledger reported.
The suspect was arraigned on Friday and will appear again Wednesday in Michigan’s 7th District Court. Extradition to Florida is still pending.
