On 1st Day in Power Democrats Moved To Give Mueller Terrifying New Tool Against Trump

Share

Well, that didn’t take long.

According to The Hill, new House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jerrold Nadler of New York has introduced legislation that would stop President Trump from removing special counsel Robert Mueller — essentially giving him immunity from the president.

“The Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act codifies an existing Department of Justice regulation providing that a special counsel may be removed only for misconduct, dereliction of duty, incapacity, conflict of interest, or other good cause,” a news release from the Judiciary Committee on Thursday read.

“It also requires written notice to a special counsel outlining the reasons for removal and provides a procedure that allows a special counsel to challenge his or her removal in court.”

“For the last two years, House Republican leadership sat idly by, and often joined in, as President Trump attempted more than once to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller and launched serious attacks on senior Department of Justice officials in an effort to end the Russia investigation,” Nadler said in a joint statement with Democrat Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas and Steve Cohen of Tennessee.

“Now that Trump has fired Attorney General Sessions and removed Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein from overseeing the investigation, we are faced with an acting Attorney General whose intentions are questionable.

“As the Special Counsel announces new indictments and guilty pleas from Trump’s closest allies and associates, it’s clear that the threat to the Mueller investigation will only grow stronger,” the statement continued.

“Democrats and Republicans in Congress have mentioned their support for the inquiry to continue unimpeded. Now is the time for Congress to finally act and pass this legislation to protect the integrity of the Special Counsel’s investigation and the rule of law.”

Nadler, by the way, is the dude who said Trump’s election was “illegitimate” before he even took office and refused to attend the inauguration, according to The Washington Times, so we can be absolutely sure that his actions are unconditionally objective and taken only out of concern for the nation (and certainly not for his own party).

Do you think the special counsel's investigation should end?

So, let’s review. Attorney General Sessions is now a very good man who should have never been dismissed.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the most stoat-like man in the Department of Justice, needs to be allowed to oversee the investigation.

President Trump tried to fire the special counsel multiple times except that he never actually got around to it, and now we need to stop him from being fired even though his investigation is almost over. And he wants to give the special counsel’s office the special new power to tie this up in court.

Got all that?

This has zero chance of being signed into law, of course, and the special counsel’s office is apparently wrapping up its investigation. Nadler has no intention of giving anyone any protection, of course, and he has an utter absence of credibility on the matter given the fact he already adjudged Trump to be illegitimate and now seems to believe any sort of campaign finance shenanigans constitutes an impeachable crime.

It’s impossible to take someone seriously when they start off with the belief that Trump must be impeached and then work backward in order to find the best way to do it.

This bill has nothing to do with protecting the Russia investigation and everything to do with Nadler demanding a useless new tool to bludgeon the president with and then insisting that the Republicans are in the tank for the Trump administration and the Russians when they inevitably don’t give it to him.

This is what you elected the Democrats to do, America. Are you not entertained? Robert Mueller definitely is.
