Abandoned Kitten Barely Clinging to Life Found Crying in Woods by Heroic Cyclist
A tiny kitten from Italy has a forever family thanks to a professional Italian cyclist Niccolò Bonifazio who heard the kitten’s cries for help.
Bonifazio, a member of Team Total Direct Energie, told The Dodo he was on a training ride when he stopped to refill his water bottles.
During the brief pause from his ride, Bonifazio, 25, heard a cry that he could not ignore.
“I heard meowing in the distance,” Bonifazio said. “It was a disturbed noise. So, I went into the woods to search.”

He soon discovered a fragile black and white kitten clinging to life near a garbage bag.
In such a remote and desolate region, it seemed unlikely that the kitten could have ended up there on his own, suggesting that perhaps someone intentionally abandoned him.
Bonifazio was concerned for the kitten’s health, worrying that he did not have long to live.
“The kitten wasn’t doing very well,” he said.
So the professional cyclist scooped the kitten up into his arms and began a race that was not for a trophy, but to save an animal’s life.
The sight of Bonifazio racing alongside picturesque Italian countryside holding a small fuzzy kitten was enough to make his cycling fans adore him all the more.
The pair bonded during the journey, the little kitten working his way straight into Bonifazio’s heart.
“We immediately brought him to the vet and he is now very well,” Bonifazio said. “I decided to take him home with me.”
The kitten is flourishing in his new environment, even making friends with large dogs.
“He’s very nice and full of energy,” Bonifazio said. “His name is Bisous; in French that means ‘kiss.’”
Had it not been for Bonifazio’s attentiveness and decision to stop and help, this little kitten likely would not be alive today.
