Baltimore police announced Monday they arrested 51-year-old nonprofit leader Antione Burton over the nonfatal shooting of a 40-year-old on Sunday. Scott expressed outrage that Burton allegedly dishonored his title working for the city’s multi-million-dollar “Safe Streets” initiative designed to address crime — while urging continued support for the program.

“This individual’s actions are a disgrace,” Scott said. “He has failed to live up to our standards for frontline community violence intervention staff and violated the trust that is at the very core of what makes violence intervention work overwhelmingly successful. Nobody should ever resort to violence to resolve conflict, especially someone tasked with promoting peace.”

“To be clear: this was an isolated incident and should not be used to undermine the proven work that Safe Streets does each and every day,” Scott added. “As this individual answers for his personal actions, we will continue to hold our Safe Streets teams to the highest standards for conduct, and they will continue their lifesaving work to prevent violence and uplift our communities.”

Burton is president of We Our Us, a Baltimore-based charity that received more than $1.2 million in government grants in 2024 alone, according to tax filings. The filings also list Burton as a pastor. We Our Us did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Police arrested Burton “without incident” on Sunday shortly after the shooting, and he faces attempted murder and weapons charges, according to the Baltimore Police Department. Maryland’s court database does not yet show his case or an attorney.

The activist is the latest of several so-called violence prevention workers charged with a crime after liberal, police-skeptical cities promoted their unconventional neighborhood outreach as crucial to public safety.

Maryland awarded $6 million to We Our Us in August despite Burton owing more than $200,000 in late tax payments, WBFF reported.

The recall order, submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on May 20, said the recall impacts Toyota Tundra trucks made between Feb. 7, 2024, and Aug. 5, 2024.

"The subject vehicles are equipped with a specific V35A engine that contains crankshaft main bearings which allow the crankshaft to rotate within the engine assembly while running," the order described.

"During a specific production period, there is a possibility that engine machining debris of a particular size and amount may not have been cleared from the engine during manufacturing and subsequently contaminated the engine assembly during the production process."

The engines in some tested vehicles displayed "engine knocking, engine rough running, engine no start and/or an engine stall."

"In the subject vehicles, an engine stall while driving leads to a loss of motive power. A vehicle loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds can increase the risk of a crash."

About 1 percent of the recalled vehicles are estimated to have the problems, according to a report from The Hill.

Letters to the owners of impacted vehicles are scheduled to be mailed on July 6.

The Autopian noted that Toyota issued a similar recall last year for identical engine problems with over 113,000 Toyota Tundras, almost 10,000 Lexus LX SUVs, and over 3,000 Lexus GX SUVs.

The outlet observed that Toyota has not yet described an official fix for the latest recall.

"With the initial recall, Toyota changed the engines in affected models out for new assemblies. It’s possible that manufacturing changes will be made, and we’ll see the same sort of fix here," The Autopian described.

"Until the official remedy technical service bulletin rolls out, we won’t know," the outlet continued.

"Still, another 43,566 trucks under recall for the same major engine issue means there’s probably more news to come."

The technology firm's Debug program essentially relies on sterilized mosquitos to crowd out breeding from fertile insects, causing a decline in mosquito counts.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is reviewing a proposal to release 16 million mosquitos in each of two consecutive years, per a report from The Guardian.

"Bad mosquitoes spread disease. Good mosquitoes can stop them," Google's website contended.

"Debug is a group of scientists and engineers developing technology to raise and release sterile mosquitoes to eliminate the ones that carry disease."

Google noted that mosquitos are actually the most lethal animal on the planet, killing more people "than every other animal combined."

"Most of these diseases don’t have effective vaccines or treatments. Attacking mosquitoes with pesticides is unsustainable because they're becoming less effective over time and can be toxic," Google said.

"Clearing standing water is not enough because people can never find all the places that mosquitoes breed. We need a new approach."

The bugs getting released into the wild have a bacteria called wolbachia, which is naturally occurring and renders males unable to breed.

The mosquito population gets smaller as the infected males try mating with females and her eggs fail to hatch.

"Male mosquitoes can’t bite or spread disease, so good bugs will stop bad ones from reproducing," Google explained.

"Over time, there will be fewer and fewer bad mosquitoes."

Other projects have used sterile insects to similar ends.

The Guardian reported that using wolbachia to stop male mosquitos from breeding has been used for about 15 years.

Google is especially targeting the Aedes aegypti species.

It carries diseases like Zika, yellow fever, and chikungunya, which render "hundreds of millions of people sick every year," the company said.

There are neither chemicals nor toxins involved, while the experiment does not require genetic modification.

"Debug is off to a good start, but there is still plenty to do. We look forward to working with communities to show that by releasing enough good bugs Debug can have a real impact on mosquito populations and disease," Google said.

"Eventually, we hope to help millions of people live longer, healthier lives."

“It should be done because I did nothing wrong,” Trump said when asked about the resolution in a phone call, The Wall Street Journal reported. “It was a rigged deal—it was a whole rigged situation.”

The Democrat-led House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump in December 2019, saying he had wrongfully tried to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, by delaying aid money, into investigating Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden for alleged corruption involving millions of dollars.

Zelenskyy said at the time he felt no pressure from Trump, and he opened no investigation into the Bidens, and the aid money was delivered on time before the end of the 2019 fiscal year.

In January 2021, the Democrat-led House impeached Trump again, claiming he incited the January 6 Capitol incursion.

At a "Stop the Steal" rally near the White House on January 6, the president stated, “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard."

The Senate voted not to convict Trump following both House impeachments.

The Wall Street Journal reported, "The effort to 'expunge' Trump’s impeachments fits with a wider campaign to erase black marks on his record. His lawyers are trying to overturn his criminal conviction for falsifying records to cover up hush money paid to a porn star, and they are seeking to reverse unfavorable civil rulings."

House Speaker Mike Johnson told the news outlet that he has discussed the resolution with Trump.

“I think it makes a lot of sense the more the evidence comes out, the more we know they really were sham impeachments,” Johnson said, noting that the conversations about the resolution picked up about a month ago. “We were saying it at the time, now we know. And they make a very compelling case that it should be expunged from the record, because it was a hyperpartisan attack job.”

Just the News reported in April that Harvard Law School professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz argued that Trump does have grounds to have the 2019 impeachment expunged based on documents recently released by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

"It's never been done. I don't see any reason why it couldn't be done," said Dershowitz, who represented Trump during the Senate impeachment trial in early 2020.

"But I have to tell you one thing, history will expunge it already based on your work, because what you've done is you've created so much doubt about the credibility of the main accuser that it's hard for anybody to sit back now and say that was a just, a just impeachment, but I don't know that there's going to be any remedy," he added. "Maybe we should try to create one."

Dershowitz told the Journal he is unsure whether a presidential impeachment can be undone. “Nobody knows the answer,” he said.

In April, Gabbard's ODNI office said in a news release that documents showed that former Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson had "weaponized" the whistleblower process and "manufactured a conspiracy" to instigate Trump's impeachment.

“Despite a lack of any firsthand evidence, IC IG Atkinson proceeded to take actions to weaponize the Whistleblower process and exceed his statutory jurisdiction by ignoring Department of Justice guidance and relying on only second-hand testimony to ensure the whistleblower complaint was released to Congress, referred to the FBI, and leaked to the propaganda media,” the ODNI said.

"Then-House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) Chairman Adam Schiff and then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi used this false, second-hand narrative to create media intrigue and ultimately spark the basis to impeach President Trump in December of 2019."

Gabbard said regarding the matter, “Deep state actors within the Intelligence Community concocted a false narrative that was used by Congress to usurp the will of the American people and impeach the duly-elected President of the United States.”

“Inspector General Atkinson failed to uphold his responsibility to the American people, putting political motivations over the truth," she contended. "Exposing these tactics and showing how they undermine the fabric of our democratic republic furthers the critical cause of transparency and accountability and will help prevent future abuse of power.”

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin, who was serving in the House during Trump's first impeachment, responded after the ODNI's document release in April, posting on X, "Just like the RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA collusion hoax, the clown show sham impeachment of President Trump in 2019 was a bulls*** show trial of epic proportion to try to take out the duly elected President of the United States."

Troy Murray, 57, provided lists of names, phone numbers, physical addresses, ages, and other personal information to the Jamaicans, who were involved in lottery fraud schemes, per a May 28 release from the Department of Justice.

The scheme lasted from 2016 to 2023 and resulted in Murray receiving "hundreds of thousands of dollars each year."

Today, a North Carolina man was sentenced to prison for running a seven-year scheme where he victimized millions of elderly Americans by selling their personal information to Jamaican lottery fraud scammers.

Murray would provide a price of around $500 for lists of between 100 and 300 names.

He had scammers send him payments by means of wire transfers, but after multiple services blocked him, he had the Jamaicans send him prepaid gift cards.

The Department of Justice described Murray as "a prolific and well-known lead list broker for Jamaican scammers."

He was so well-known in Jamaica that his pseudonym, Steve Dixon, found its way into a Jamaican song lyric in 2022.

The fraudster used his payouts -- totaling over $5.2 million -- to purchase "farm equipment, vehicles, and collectibles like bars and coins made of precious metals."

"Murray also sent money he made from the scheme to one of his sons to purchase personal property and pay for his business and living expenses," the release added.

He sold at least 22,000 lead lists to scammers, resulting in American seniors losing over $9.5 million.

He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in January 2026 and will now spend 121 months -- just over 10 years -- in prison, following by three years of supervised release.

Just days before the Department of Justice announced the sentencing of Murray, the agency announced that a citizen of the United Kingdom and Jamaica illegally residing in Massachusetts pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Nicole Lamont, 32, took part in a lottery scam through which "elderly victims were contacted by telephone and falsely informed they had won a sweepstakes."

They were then told to send money "to pay purported taxes due on their winnings."

"Lamont received funds directly from at least three members of the lottery scam, deposited them into her bank account, and made the funds available to other members of the conspiracy who were located in Jamaica," the release added.

Sarah Fisher is now the ninth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina, according to a May 28 report from The Christian Post.

Fisher is in a same-sex union with Mandy Brady, another Episcopal cleric.

A representative for the Episcopal Church told The Christian Post that "Bishop Fisher is the first openly lesbian Episcopal Church bishop for a diocese based in the South.”

Fisher was elected last November, receiving the required simple majority among clergy and laity to win the contest.

Episcopal News Service reported that Fisher was "ordained to the diaconate in 2004 and the priesthood in 2005, both in the Diocese of Atlanta."

She will lead 66 parishes, as well as two college campus ministries.

The diocese "serves several military bases, a large Latino community and parishes of all sizes across five deaneries," the outlet added.

Fisher wrote in a letter following her election, “My friends, as we stand on the precipice of this new adventure together, may we hold fast to the promise that God’s power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine."

"With a grateful and full heart, I can’t wait to see where we go," she added.

The Episcopal Church, a mainline Protestant denomination, has a reputation for being both theologically and politically liberal.

The denomination notes on its website that 2026 marks "the 50th anniversary of our church affirming that LGBTQ+ people have a full and equal claim to the love, acceptance, and pastoral care of the church."

"The journey to make that promise a reality continues today, as we remember the struggles, celebrate the joy, and give thanks for love and for lives that refuse to be erased," the website adds.

Self-proclaimed homosexual and transgender individuals, of both sexes, are permitted to become bishops, priests, deacons, and lay leaders.

"We celebrate and give thanks for the beauty, strength, and sacred worth of LGBTQ+ leaders across all contexts and callings," the website continues.

Biblical Christianity has historically taught that same-sex relationships and attractions are sinful, and that pastoral ministry is restricted to men qualified according to Scripture.

The properties of the three families -- whose members mostly work as farm laborers -- were torched on April 23, according to a report from Barnabas Aid.

The ministry reported that the homes were set ablaze while the family members were gone working at farms around Kurilpur village.

"Everything inside the houses was destroyed," Barnabas Aid said.

"Important documents, cash, a motorcycle, bicycles, household items, clothing and other belongings were burned to ashes."

Contacts with the ministry said that the family members -- totaling six adults and nine children, the youngest of whom is three years old -- had become Christians in 2017.

They were pressured by neighbors to follow the "Shiv Charcha" movement within Hinduism, but the families refused to renounce their newfound faith in Jesus Christ.

It's not the first time a mob has destroyed Christian homes in India over the past several months.

In January, residents of Midapalli village confronted six Christian families and likewise demanded that they renounce their faith, according to a report from Premier Christian News.

The 25 combined family members received death threats but refused the demands.

A horde of roughly 20 villagers demolished four of their homes the following day.

When the families went to local police, the officers sided with the villagers, as well as called in their pastor to forbid him from visiting the families.

India ranks 12th on Open Doors' World Watch List for anti-Christian persecution.

"Religious nationalists believe that being Hindu is an important part of being Indian, and to them Indian Christians are seen as outsiders at best," the ministry described.

"Those who leave Hinduism to follow Jesus can be seen as traitors."

It's not uncommon for Hindu nationalist mobs to threaten or harm Christians, and for police to side with the perpetrators instead of the victims.

Many jurisdictions in India also have "anti-conversion laws."

They are supposed to prevent forced conversions to any religion, but are increasingly being weaponized against Christians.

"Christians are particularly at risk of persecution in Hindu-majority states," Open Doors noted.

Talarico is currently running for U.S. Senate in Texas and while running for the Democratic nomination in January he said there should be a “welcome mat” at the border. However, months later he framed himself as a “border security Democrat” during his appearance on the “Cogdell Law Uncensored” podcast.

“I called out Joe Biden for failing to secure our southern border and I got a lot of heat in my own party for doing that. But I remember talking with my colleagues in the legislature who represent border communities and they told me about the utter chaos caused by President Biden’s policies and the Democratic Party,” Talarico told the Podcast’s host, attorney Dan Cogdell.

“And so, I’m a border security Democrat,” Talarico added.

This comes after Talarico said, “Our southern border should be like our front porch. There should be a giant welcome mat out front,” in a Jan. 24 primary debate against Democrat Jasmine Crockett, who he defeated in the March primary.

Talarico’s remarks were promptly criticized by Democratic Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar who stated in March, “I hope I spend some time with him [Talarico] and get him to change the situation at the border. And I live at the border, I just don’t go visit the border.”

Cuellar also stated that he did not support Talarico’s border remarks.

“I think we have to stop this secret police force of masked men in unmarked vehicles kidnapping our neighbors off our streets, killing American civilians and American citizens, I think we need to rebuild this agency so that it actually focuses on immigration customs enforcement,” Talarico said in an interview with CBS discussing his opinions on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Talarico is running against Republican nominee, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Cogdell, who endorsed Talarico, served as Paxton’s defense attorney during his 2023 impeachment trial.

In Moore v. United States, decided June 20, 2024, the Court declined to resolve whether Congress can tax appreciation you haven't received. That refusal was deliberate and strategic. It carries nine-figure implications for anyone with significant private wealth.

The Case That Asked the Question

Charles and Kathleen Moore invested $40,000 in KisanKraft, an Indian agricultural tool company, in 2006. The company made money every year. It reinvested rather than distributing. The Moores received no dividends.

Then, the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act imposed a one-time Mandatory Repatriation Tax on American shareholders of controlled foreign corporations for accumulated, undistributed earnings. The Moores owed roughly $15,000. They sued, arguing that the Sixteenth Amendment only authorizes Congress to tax income that has been realized, and that income the Moores had never received couldn't qualify.

The question presented was explicit: whether the Sixteenth Amendment authorizes Congress to tax unrealized sums without apportionment among the states.

This was the constitutional question the wealth tax debate had been waiting for. The Court agreed to hear it. Then the majority, authored by Justice Brett Kavanaugh, went to considerable lengths to avoid answering it.

The majority's reasoning ran through a narrow lane. KisanKraft had realized income. Congress has long had the power to attribute a corporation's realized income to its shareholders. The Mandatory Repatriation Tax operated within that attribution framework. Therefore, the Moores were being taxed on realized income, just attributed to them through an entity.

The broader constitutional question, whether realization is required at all, need not be addressed. It wasn't.

Four Votes and an Unanswered Question

The separate opinions carry the more important story. Justices Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch dissented, concluding that the Sixteenth Amendment requires realization, and the Mandatory Repatriation Tax failed that test.

Justice Amy Coney Barrett, joined by Justice Samuel Alito, concurred in the judgment, but wrote separately to say explicitly what the majority wouldn't: The Sixteenth Amendment's reference to income "derived" from any source "encompasses a realization requirement," and realization is required before Congress can tax financial gain without apportionment.

Barrett's concurrence and Thomas' dissent together represent four justices prepared to draw a constitutional line that would stop federal and state wealth taxes cold.

Only Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, writing solo, praised the majority's restraint and signaled openness to Congress's broader taxing latitude. The scorecard: four justices for a realization requirement, one against, and five who declined to answer the realization question. It didn't produce a holding.

Justice Thomas was pointed in his dissent. The Court "should not have hesitated" to impose a realization requirement when the votes were there, he wrote, rather than deferring the question to a future case when the alignment might shift.

Constitutional doctrine set on your terms beats doctrine set on someone else's terms. The majority chose patience. Four justices -- two in dissent, two in a separate concurrence -- recorded that patience as an error.

What Wealth Tax Advocates Are Counting On

Federal and state wealth taxation remains constitutionally untested at the Supreme Court level. Oregon Democratic Senator Ron Wyden's mark-to-market proposal, which would subject publicly traded assets held by taxpayers with over $1 billion in net worth or $100 million in income over three years to annual taxation regardless of whether gains have been realized, was not constitutionally foreclosed by Moore.

The Biden administration's 2025 budget proposal for a minimum tax on unrealized gains for households with more than $100 million in assets was not foreclosed.

California's AB 259, which proposed a 1 percent annual wealth tax on net worth above $50 million before dying in committee in January 2024, was not foreclosed.

A ballot initiative targeting California's November 2026 election that would impose a 5 percent tax on billionaire net worth, including unrealized gains, has not been foreclosed.

The post-decision coverage framed Moore as a government win. On narrow grounds, it was. What it wasn't was a constitutional green light for taxing gains you haven't received. The majority's opinion explicitly declined to answer that question. Every proposal premised on doing so remained constitutionally unchallenged.

Why It Matters Beyond the Headlines

I've spent 30 years advising ultra-high-net-worth families on private equity, private credit, and family office structures. The clients carrying the most direct exposure to this question are exactly the ones you'd expect: founders with illiquid positions in closely held businesses, limited partners locked into fund commitments for 10-year holds, and real estate principals whose embedded appreciation in core holdings dwarfs their available liquidity.

An annual tax on unrealized appreciation isn't an income tax in any functional sense for these clients. It's a forced-sale mechanism.

A founder holding $200 million in private company equity, none of it liquid, faces a tax bill he can only pay by selling part of what he owns or borrowing against it at terms the market dictates.

The "buy, borrow, die" criticism of current law is real. Its remedy, mandatory annual recognition of gains you can't monetize without selling the underlying asset, creates its own structural damage.

The administration problem compounds the constitutional one. Annual mark-to-market taxation of illiquid private assets requires valuation infrastructure that doesn't exist. California's Franchise Tax Board estimated it would need $200 to $300 million annually to administer its proposed wealth tax -- roughly 2-3 percent of projected revenue -- for a regime with no precedent in American tax law. The IRS isn't staffed to build that infrastructure, and no timeline for building it has been proposed.

The Constraint That Didn't Come

The Moore case produced a constitutional question deferred, not resolved: four justices on record for the answer that stops wealth taxation, one against, and five who declined to address it.

The next challenger to bring a tax on genuinely unrealized gains, one that can't be rationalized as attributing realized corporate income to a shareholder, will arrive at a Court that may have the votes to rule differently than this majority allowed itself to.

The Sixteenth Amendment was ratified in 1913 to reverse Pollock v. Farmers' Loan and Trust Co., which had held that an unapportioned income tax on property income was an unconstitutional direct tax. The amendment gave Congress broad power to tax incomes from whatever source derived.

That breadth is what Wyden and the California legislature are relying on. It's also what four Supreme Court justices are prepared to constrain. The constraint didn't come in Moore. It may be closer than the wealth tax advocates are assuming.

Your estate planner probably flagged Moore as a win for the government. She wasn't wrong. She may have missed the most important sentence in Justice Thomas's dissent: that the Court should have drawn the line when it had the votes to draw it. Four justices agreed with him about the line. They disagreed only about the timing.

Such is the case in evaluating Operation Epic Fury.

As necessary as it was to initiate military action against Iran, and as difficult as its follow-up may be, its righteous inception and requisite sequel should be clear to anyone not afflicted with Trump Derangement Syndrome.

That said, it’s not surprising that progressive soothsayers predicted catastrophe from the campaign’s onset and continue to do so with shortsighted criticism shrouded in foolhardy certainty. And that is ever more obvious with an Iranian peace treaty ever more likely.

From the beginning, condemnation of Epic Fury included claims that its rationale was ambiguous, that it would never deliver on Trump’s strategic justification, and that, despite verifiable evidence to the contrary, Iran’s nuclear ambitions posed no imminent threat to the United States or anywhere else.

And if those criticisms weren’t enough, the Constitutional card was played, arguing that only Congress can declare war and that Trump’s actions would pull us into an unauthorized “mission-creep” quagmire.

Like the insipidly written, ultra-repetitive lyrics of B-side songs on classic 45 RPM records, progressive critics of Epic Fury compete with one another by echoing doomsaying predictions, each more prophetically worded than the last.

Not surprisingly, a small sampling of heavy hitters on the left issued presumptuous pronouncements predicting Epic Fury’s disaster. Leading the way, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer claimed the operation was launched “without a strategy,” and Kamala Harris called the conflict a “dangerous and unnecessary gamble with American lives.”

House Budget Committee Democrats said the war “ballooned costs at the grocery store and the gas pump.”

Progressives criticized rising Pentagon spending for sacrificing domestic programs. And Bernie Sanders accused Trump of “playing with matches in a room full of gasoline.”

And ever the “gloom and doom” prophet, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries forecast that our military action against Iran lacked a clear exit strategy and that it was “not going to end well.”

But focusing on Epic Fury’s uncertain outcomes, inflationary pressures, and predictions of failure or worse, none of those criticisms offer any new proposals that haven’t previously failed to offset the catastrophe of excusing Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Moreover, by couching talking points in terms of the conflict's real, imagined, or exaggerated challenges, such as economic impact, budgetary expenditures, and loss of American lives, progressives fail to recognize its undeniably positive results and lesser-evil outcomes.

Representing a sharp break from Biden’s do-nothing paralysis and Obama’s bribery-focused drift, Iran has, for the first time in decades, learned that there are real consequences for funding terrorists killing Americans.

And acting as a superpower again, the U.S. has prevented Iran from ever again choking the world’s economy by claiming the international waters of the Strait of Hormuz as its own oil-exporting waterway.

But far more importantly, by degrading Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure, Epic Fury has bought years of security without putting a single American boot on Iranian soil. Yet criticism persists, directed as much at that operation as at its author.

So, fairness demands that if someone other than Trump were president, would anyone seriously doubt that developing weapons of mass destruction in Tehran would likely ignite a potentially catastrophic nuclear arms race in the Middle East?

Would anyone seriously believe that Iran’s uranium enrichment program is for purely peaceful purposes when America has made it unnecessary by agreeing to provide Tehran with all the uranium needed for peaceful power reactor use?

And if a Democrat were president, would anyone truthfully trust Iran to enrich uranium to weapon-grade levels for “peaceful purposes” after murdering thousands of its own people, supporting terrorists killing and maiming thousands of Americans, voicing support for the destruction of Israel, and calling the U.S. “The Great Satan?” Undoubtedly not.

That being so, Trump should be applauded for confronting the impending threat of a nuclearized Iran rather than kicking that explosive can down the road.

With midterm elections months away, other presidents might have protected their razor-thin congressional majorities by cultivating a booming economy rather than risking that advantage by addressing the threat of a nuclearized Iran.

However, despite what TDS-infected Democrats believe, and despite whatever economic, political, and humanitarian negatives are associated with Epic Fury, those issues pale in comparison to the calamity of doing nothing to thwart Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

And yet, after temporarily accepting higher inflation, plunging poll numbers, and possible midterm losses as the costs of protecting our nation, anyone still believing the president has ignored that calculus is, even now, blind to the fact that such lesser-evil expenses buy greater-good security for us all.

A White House reporter on Thursday told Trump that candidate Janeese Lewis George, currently a Democratic member of the D.C. City Council, "is running a Zohran Mamdani campaign, focused on socialist policies."

"How would you feel if she emerges victorious in next Tuesday's primary?" the reporter asked.

"I wouldn't like it — and maybe we take back Washington, run it on the federal basis. We won't put up with it. We're not going to lose our businesses," Trump responded.

Mamdani's short tenure as mayor has been marked by openly socialist rhetoric -- he slams "rugged individualism" and lauds the "warmth of collectivism." He has made hostility toward big businesses, the financial lifeblood of the Big Apple, a hallmark of his time in office.

Trump is clearly not a fan.

Lewis George is leading the more moderate former City Council Member Kenyan R. McDuffie by double digits, according to a Washington Post-Schar School poll released on Friday ahead of the June 16 Democratic primary.

Among likely Democratic voters, Lewis George garners 36 percent support, to McDuffie's 25 percent, with 25 percent of respondents still undecided.

Mark Rozell, dean of George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government, told The Washington Post that McDuffie still could prevail, given the large number of undecided voters.

“Theoretically, at least, that gives McDuffie a chance to make the case, to bring in the persuadable voters,” he said. The newspaper noted that undecided voters tend to be concentrated among moderates, black voters, and those 65 and over.

However, the poll found "nearly half of registered Democrats have a favorable view of socialism, while just 28 percent have an unfavorable view of it."

“It seems socialism is cool these days with many of the Democratic Party-based voters,” Rozell said. “So things that perhaps a generation ago would have been entirely disqualifying … now are right in the mainstream of the activist core of the Democratic Party.”

The Washington Examiner reported that the federal government's surge last summer of law enforcement and National Guard into the District brought crime down significantly.

Homicides fell 32 percent in 2025, compared to 2024, while robberies dropped 37 percent, and motor vehicle thefts 23 percent, according to data reported by the Metropolitan Police Department. So far this year, homicides are down 44 percent.

Lewis George responded to Trump's threat to federalize Washington, D.C., saying on Thursday, "We're not going to get ICE off our streets by fearing this president."

"Threatening home rule, because you do not like how residents vote, is an attack on democracy," she added.

If Lewis George wins Tuesday's primary, it will come on top of fellow Democratic socialist Nithya Raman learning this week that she came in second in the Los Angeles mayor's primary, and therefore will advance to the general election to face Mayor Karen Bass.

Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, facing high disapproval numbers, decided not to seek a fourth term.

In the heavily Democratic District of Columbia, Axios noted, victory in D.C.'s Democratic mayoral primary is tantamount to winning the election.

The gunman was killed in an exchange of fire with police.

The incident began at about 8 a.m. when Victor Mata Villarreal opened fire on police and bystanders before barricading himself in an abandoned veterinary clinic, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

At about 12:30 p.m., a robot and drone located Villarreal’s body, Midland Mayor Lori Blong said, according to CBS News.

No police officers were injured in the incident.

Police had been hunting for Villareal ever since a Wednesday night incident that began as a police chase ended in an exchange of gunfire, after which Villarreal was able to escape capture.

"I seen him cross the street from the hotel to the gas station," witness Lee Carlisle said. "I called the police, dispatch, immediately, but they said that they had already got a couple calls. Other people had already been calling in, and probably less than 5 minutes, there was, like, every police officer in Midland, Texas."

"We heard several, several gunshots, like 20 gunshots, and then it moved down -- the whole situation moved further down," Carlisle said of the police response. "We see the drones, and then we see the Texas Rangers and the undercover cars with lights on. ... Had to be, seems like, 50 police officers, like a small army."

"This is an all-hands-on-deck situation," Blong said, according to KWES-TV.

She said the hospital had an adequate supply of blood for the shooting victims, but there may be a future need, because the local blood bank was depleted by the incident.

"The blood bank need is not immediate, but we do know there may be future needs," Blong said. "If you have a willingness to go to our local blood banks to donate blood, we invite you to do that."

Midland Police Chief Greg Snow said the incident quickly escalated, according to NBC News, noting that responding officers “were pinned down behind their patrol vehicles.”

After armored vehicles arrived, the officers were able to reach safety, he said.

“We then began moving through Highway 80 to see if there’s anybody trapped in their vehicles that we could get out of there. We moved to deny more targets to this active shooter, and then we secured the perimeter and began making a plan to get everybody safe,” he said.

"My heart breaks for the victims and their families," Blong said, according to CBS. "We are praying for every person touched by today's events and for the law enforcement officers who risked [their] own safety to protect our community."

Blong asked the community to do one thing for all those affected.

"I would really ask Midlanders to pray for the families of those who have been impacted, for the victims themselves, for the family of the one who is confirmed deceased,” Blong said, according to ABC News.

I grew up a Spurs fan. I watched the Tim Duncan-led teams and celebrated the team's NBA championships in 1999, 2003, 2005, and 2007 -- and spent years generally cheering on all things San Antonio.

Then, Oklahoma City got an NBA team in 2008, and as an Okie, making the switch was a no-brainer.

The Thunder came to town, and what had once been my team became my least favorite franchise in professional sports over the years.

I loathe the Spurs, and that is putting it mildly. The fans drive me nuts. I root against their team every time they take the court because they are one of my own team’s biggest rivals.

That's why I can speak honestly about those same people ahead of Saturday night’s game in San Antonio.

I know Spurs fans because I used to be a big one. I lived among them when San Antonio beat New York in the 1999 NBA Finals, and I have spent most of my life around great Texans.

I can confidently tell you that nobody is going to be beaten in the streets by gangs of thugs roaming around San Antonio on Saturday night, regardless of who wins.

The Spurs, down 3-1 after their loss in New York on Wednesday, could force a Game 6, or the Knicks could celebrate their first championship since the Nixon administration.

Either way, New York players and fans will leave San Antonio safely and without being menaced.

That is not the compliment to the Spurs faithful that it might sound like. I am not praising people for doing the bare minimum, which is not behaving like animals.

This is an indictment of New York.

After each of New York’s two games at Madison Square Garden this week, video has shown Knicks fans chasing down and assaulting people, destroying property and businesses, and engaging with riot police -- not to mention targeting Spurs players.

When I think about San Antonio, I think about a city where people celebrate wins and complain about the box score after a loss. Then they go home and pay their taxes at some point, just like most fans do.

When I think about New York in the Year of our Lord 2026, I think about a city that is itching to set itself on fire.

Years of failed leadership and declining expectations for acceptable human behavior have made New York City a Third World hellhole.

What is New York's cultural identity at this point, if not violence, chaos, and unpredictability?

The city spent centuries earning a reputation for toughness, ambition, and the marvels that can result from a resilient American attitude.

But New York is now an example of what a managed decline looks like, and that includes the decline of the values of many of those who inhabit the place.

Saturday night's game is going to showcase the cultural divide between two very different versions of America, whether anyone intends it to or not.

A city and state that values civility will host an ultimate-stakes NBA Finals game and will remain peaceful regardless of the outcome.

Meanwhile, I expect to see fires on my television screen from New York regardless of the outcome of Saturday’s game.

The Knicks’ storybook season has been a success that the players earned, but they also, unfortunately, have succeeded in highlighting the cultural rot of the city they represent.

According to the New York Post, federal officials have traced the recurring phenomenon in one northeastern location to an unspecified "secluded pond."

On Friday, President Donald Trump's War Department released the third tranche of declassified Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) files.

That release included FBI confirmation of the authenticity of a glowing-orb phenomenon in the Northeast, according to the Post.

More specifically, an unnamed resident provided cellphone footage of the phenomenon to the FBI. Bureau agents then traveled to the location and saw the orbs for themselves.

All told, the FBI received from the resident four videos shot between 2021 and 2025.

In those four videos, the orbs appeared in different colors and behaved in different ways.

For instance, in a video from 2021, a single orb appeared to slowly replicate into at least three orbs. A 2024 video, however, showed a single orb seeming to change size.

Sometimes the orbs did not appear alone. Videos from 2022 and 2025, for instance, featured a pair of reddish-colored orbs hovering in close proximity to one another.

A relevant declassified FBI file, as quoted by the Post, described the resident as having "observed these objects in the vicinity of and sometimes as close as 200 yards from [his] residence."

"These objects have been observed hovering in a static position, and moving. They are sometimes observed above the horizon, as well as close to the ground, within the trees, and in or near the water," the declassified FBI file continued.

The resident also "set up trail cameras and other sensors to collect data from [the] property [and has] seen spikes in Gamma radiation that correlate with times [he] has observed the objects, and additional unusual effects on electronics and GPS data from devices."

Meanwhile, two FBI agents visited the residence in November 2024 and witnessed the phenomenon for themselves.

As part of its Friday documents dump, the War Department also released a redacted copy of a February 2026 interview that "corresponds to reports originating from the same general area in the northeastern United States."

The unidentified interviewees, apparently two in number, provided additional details about the sightings.

One interviewee, for instance, described "an intense bright light hovering below the tree line in the middle of their backyard."

Then, the other interviewee recalled seeing "a red sphere that was about one meter in diameter," adding that the red color was "brilliant and beautiful" and that he or she "had never seen anything that color of red before."

The Post did not indicate how or why the FBI pinpointed a "secluded pond" in the area.

The outlet did report, however, that federal officials "do not yet know the nature of the orbs, and are not speculating about their origin pending further study."

Protesters against Immigration and Customs Enforcement continue to make nuisances of themselves -- and some of them are paying for it.

A clip posted to social media this week is proof of that.

In the clip, the driver of a Buick SUV exiting the sometimes controversial facility sprayed a road-blocking, bullhorn-wielding protester with what looked like pepper spray.

At the beginning of the clip, a mask-wearing nutjob jumped lightly on the vehicle's hood.

The driver, however, could not reach the protester who made contact with his vehicle. Instead, the driver sprayed a scrawny and scruffy-looking protester who stood outside the driver's side window and pointed a bullhorn at the driver's face.

The entire incident, complete with vulgar epithets from off-camera protesters, took only seconds.

Independent journalist Brendan Gutenschwager, who posted the clip, did not identify the driver.

Fellow independent journalist Nick Sortor, however, shared the clip and referred to the driver as a Delaney Hall "employee."

Last month, obnoxious anti-ICE protesters descended on Delaney Hall.

Spurred by false rumors of mistreatment toward migrant prisoners inside the facility, those protesters resorted to their usual tricks, such as obstructing regular traffic on the road in front of the detention center.

This time, however, local and state authorities actually restored order. And it's worked, so far.

For instance, Democratic Mayor Ras Baraka of Newark imposed a strict 9 p.m. curfew. Then, Democratic Gov. Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey sent in the State Police.

By early this month, the protests appeared to have largely subsided.

In fact, the striking thing about the pepper-spray videos above is just how pathetic the gathering of protesters looks. Even the mask-wearing, hood-jumping nutjob appeared halfhearted in his efforts to obstruct the vehicle.

Still, whoever the driver was, whether an ICE agent or merely a facility employee, if he has to brace for a possible assault on himself or his vehicle every day as he drives past those lunatics, who can blame him for using a non-lethal spray against one of them?

"After months of searching through Intelligence Community holdings and files, Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard is revealing new evidence of longstanding United States government funding for more than 120 biolabs in over 30 countries," the release read. "These biolabs include labs in Ukraine, which may be at risk of compromise due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war."

Gabbard also described a conspiracy to conceal the biolabs' existence.

"Until now, evidence regarding the full existence and funding of these laboratories had been knowingly withheld from the American people," the release read. "The information surrounding the existence, history, locations and funding of these US funded biolabs has been intentionally covered up by powerful people falsely, claiming that they do not exist and accusing anyone who says otherwise to be foreign assets and traitors to America."

Gabbard herself, as quoted in the press release, singled out prominent actors from former President Joe Biden's administration. Most notably, she took aim at "so-called health professionals" like Anthony Fauci.

"Despite the obvious potential for catastrophic global impact research on dangerous pathogens in biolabs can have, politicians, so-called health professionals like Dr. Fauci, and entities within the Biden administration's national security team lied to the American people about the existence of U.S.-funded and supported biolabs, and threatened those who attempted to expose the truth," Gabbard said.

Accompanying documents identified "over 40 labs built and supported" in Ukraine alone.

Among the bioweapons and "disease-causing pathogens" housed in those facilities, the documents listed anthrax, Ebola, and the plague.

A corresponding map showed a heavy concentration of labs in the cities of Kyiv and Odesa. Of particular note, the map identified Odesa as a site of biological weapons storage.

Last month, Gabbard announced her resignation effective June 30. She cited her husband's deteriorating health as the reason for her departure.

Friday's release, of course, was hardly her first bombshell.

In July 2025, Gabbard unveiled evidence that appeared to show the precise date on which former President Barack Obama and members of his national security team allegedly decided to use manufactured intelligence to undermine then-incoming President Donald Trump's first term by smearing the new president with baseless allegations of Russian collusion during the 2016 election. At the time, Gabbard called this a "treasonous conspiracy."

As for the biolabs, the evidence released supported Russian claims from early 2022, shortly after the Russia-Ukraine War began.

"Recently found documents show that components of biological weapons were made in Ukraine’s laboratories, with funding from [the U.S. Department of Defense], in direct proximity to Russia," the Russian Embassy in the United Kingdom wrote on X, then known as Twitter.

The Russians even identified -- correctly, it appears -- anthrax and the plague as part of a U.S.-backed, Ukraine-based bioweapons program.

Of course, many people in Trump's winning 2024 coalition have long suspected the biolabs' existence.

In an August 2023 interview, for instance, conservative podcaster Tucker Carlson asked then-Democratic presidential candidate and now Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. about the alleged biolabs.

"We have biolabs in Ukraine because we’re developing bioweapons, and those bioweapons are using all kinds of new synthetic biology and CRISPR technology and genetic engineering techniques that were not available to previous generations. And they can make frightening, frightening stuff," Kennedy replied.

In 2022, then-Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah accused Gabbard of "treasonous lies" for referring to U.S.-funded biolabs in Ukraine. Gabbard responded by threatening legal action against Romney and others who accused her of treason.

Of course, for all the Derangement Syndrome sufferers whining about the pool, they're forgetting when Barack Obama's administration renovated the pool and ended up with an even worse mess -- which the legacy media reported on, but didn't attach any symbolic value to.

But as much as libs might be loath to admit it, it's not a new story when it comes to Reflecting Pool work.

As CNN noted in a 2012 report, the pool "reopened at the end of August to great fanfare after a $34 million renovation."

"It smells like wet dog down here," said another.

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool reopened to the public at the end of August, after an almost two-year renovation costing $34 million. After being recently filled back up with water, it is now full of algae. Ironically, the new pool was intended to "improve the reflectivity of the water" with tinted concrete.

The 90-year-old pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial that also reflects the soaring Washington Monument had provided one of the capital's most-photographed views.

But the reflecting pool, which is about 160 feet wide and 2,100 feet long, had degraded badly over the decades.

Built on marshland without pilings for support, the original pool had sunk, causing cracks and leaks. The pool held 6.75 million gallons (25.6 million liters) of water but lost an estimated 500,000 gallons (1.9 million liters) a week to leaks and evaporation, the statement said.

And CNN noted the year before that that the pool was "a giant mud pit" and the new version "will actually have about a third less water than previously and will be shallower."

No quips about "if you like your reflecting pool, you can keep your reflecting pool." Or how the new "green" reflecting pool ended up literally turning green.

No breathlessness or obsessive shot-taking of the mess, except for the occasional report. No attempt to attach meaningless significance to it.

It's almost like they were functioning as a regular media should, if using a bit too light of a touch. Wonder why that might have been!

In case you missed it, Hunter Biden appeared on Gavin Newsom's podcast last weekend. This meeting of the minds, two men whose SAT scores combined probably couldn't crack 1600 (and if then, only just barely), was part of two campaigns.

First, there's Newsom's campaign for president. Let's face facts: Gavin doesn't do side hustles for fun. This is a guy who'd like nothing more than to be with a glass of wine and on X with caps lock on and the weakly sarcastic takes flowing like his merlot. He wouldn't be podcasting if he weren't trying to rebrand himself as mildly accessible before the 2028 primaries start in earnest.

Then, there's the odd laundering of Hunter Biden through the media spin cycle. After being found guilty of both tax evasion and gun charges and being pardoned by his dad, Hunter initially shirked the limelight in the months following the Bidens' eviction from the White House.

However, of late, he's started owning his ex-crackhead personality and comes across as the most sane Biden, somehow. (Keep in mind this is a matter of appearances and comparison; being the most sane Biden is a bit like being the most tolerable "Mighty Ducks" movie.)

Well, it turns out that Newsom has a ready and willing running mate if he wants one: Hunter Biden! Joe's most disappointing surrogate in the post-debate hand-wringing back in 2024, paired with Joe's most disappointing son. I can't think of anything the members of the Democratic Party would find more endearing than a return to the final days of the Biden debacle, except maybe hara-kiri or poison sumac boils over 87 percent of their bodies.

At the opening of the podcast, Newsom jokingly said that momentum was building behind "Hunter Biden 2028" thanks to a few viral posts of late.

As absurd as this sounds -- and community notes on X made it sound like this should be treated only as a joke -- the two would actually make up a potent ticket if you think about it hard enough, which you shouldn't, because these two men don't think hard, either.

First, both of these men have had very public personal struggles with addictive substances. The old adage is that you vote for the guy you'd most like to have a beer with. Well, what about the guy you'd be most likely to have 16 with?

Newsom, it's oft forgotten, blamed an extramarital dalliance with the wife of a top aide and good friend on alcohol, insisted he would give it up and get help, and implied that help would involve rehab. He started drinking again and insisted that he'd never been to rehab, and you all heard him wrong.

Second, they're only here because their dads had power and/or money. The Bidens aren't the richest family ever in American politics, but darned if Hunter didn't turn access into his dad into millions upon millions of dollars. (He's now penurious because, alas, constant companionship from cocaine and courtesans ain't cheap.)

Newsom's dad was less well-known, but still powerful in San Francisco political circles and rich as heck and had connections with the Getty family and former California Gov. Jerry Brown, among others.

Neither man had a stellar career before they landed politically connected jobs, which tells us that Pops had a lot to do with their rise. Neither has distinguished themselves when elevated by nepotism; on the contrary, both men seem like living proofs of the Peter Principle.

And yet, we're considering one for president in 2028. Why shouldn't he pick Hunter Biden if he gets the nod? If you're going to go stupid and insulting, go all the way, Gavin. At least one major American political party would love this. It's not the Democrats, but why let logic get in the way at this late hour?

Talking to Fox News (!) after the verdict in Karmelo Anthony case in Texas, Kaine -- who is now serving his third term in the upper chamber as a Democrat from Virginia and was selected as Hillary Clinton's running mate in 2016 -- seems to have trouble understanding why so many in his own party and his own wing of American politics think murder isn't murder if the perpetrator is black and the victim is white.

Anthony, now 19, was convicted earlier this week of stabbing teenager Austin Metcalf at a track meet in Frisco, Texas, in 2025, after a confrontation initiated by Anthony when he walked into Metcalf's team's tent.

The death penalty or life in prison weren't on the table for Anthony, because he was a minor when he committed the crime. However, the jury took only three hours to convict, and he was given 35 years behind bars, with at least 17 to be served before he's eligible for parole.

Given the cold-blooded nature of the crime and the violent threat that Anthony poses, this seems fair and right to the sane. And then there's Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett, who has said that Anthony was a "scared black boy" and needed more "mercy" from the court, among other ridiculous clips and claims:

Nor, in fact, was she the only one spreading lies about the subject -- including activist individuals and organizations affiliated with the American left -- of there being an "all-white jury" that convicted and sentenced Anthony. (It wasn't all-white, not by a long stretch.)

Kaine didn't seem to get it when a Fox News reporter asked him about the outrage over the verdict on his side.

“I have a hard time understanding why they would say that,” Kaine said about claims that the verdict was racially charged.

All right, then: What about specific claims by Crockett and others?

"I know what they’re saying, but I have a hard time understanding," Kaine said.

Well, at least now we know why we don't hear much from Tim Kaine anymore.

Murder is murder is murder. A Texas jury proved that this week, and proved that no amount of race-bait pettifogging could change their minds.

But his party? They still live in the days when they can stop hiding behind the mask of "affordability" and "unity" and start talking about DEI and defund again. Crockett -- who has lost the Senate primary in Texas and has had her seat redistricted out of existence -- is talking about it because she doesn't have anything to lose. This is what they're all thinking behind the scenes, though.

So if you're wondering about why you haven't heard from Tim Kaine anymore, it's that he has "a hard time understanding" this bedrock fact.

On Monday, Steven Ogilvie, 44, a partially deaf man who reportedly struggles with schizophrenia, suffered severe injuries when he was attacked near his Belfast flat. Hadi Alodid, 30, a Sudanese national living in the Northern Ireland city, has been charged with multiple crimes in connection with the stabbing.

The incident sparked outrage in Belfast, with multiple nights of fiery protests targeting Britain’s lax immigration policies.

All this was too much for Ed Davey, a Liberal Democratic member of the U.K. Parliament from the London area. While calling the attack “deeply shocking,” Davey reserved his real anger for those who shared their outrage as videos of the attack swept the internet.

“I am horrified by the disorder and racist violence in Belfast last night,” he wrote Wednesday on X after social media calls to resist flew.

“Far too often now, we see extremists exploiting people’s anger and grief to spread hatred and violence – with the help of divisive algorithms on social media. This has to stop,” he wrote.

Many responses pointed out that Davey's outrage might be misplaced.

But Davey insisted that a dose of muzzling might be just the thing.

“The Government must take action against tech billionaires like Elon Musk, who control the divisive and harmful social media algorithms that are inciting violence and hatred,” he wrote.

Musk had endorsed resistance posting on X, “Only by protesting REPEATEDLY and LOUDLY will there be any change!!”

That cast Musk in the role of the villain, the U.K.'s Labour Party Chairwoman Anna Turley said, according to Politico.

“It’s appalling. Anyone that is seeking to drive and exploit a situation like this to drive their own political agenda is grievously wrong and doing damage,” she said.

“We’ve seen children, families having to flee their homes on the streets of Belfast last night.”

“We do not want to see this kind of disruption, damage, thuggery, violence on our streets, and anyone that is seeking to whip that up should be condemned,” she said.

Musk “has a responsibility … to call for calm and not stoke grievance,” she said.

SpaceX shares opened at $150, which, as noted by The Wall Street Journal, was 11 percent above the IPO price of $135 per share.

Musk’s share of SpaceX is worth about $690 billion. His stake in Tesla is worth about $279 billion.

Musk said SpaceX has had a positive cash flow for 11 years.

He said he plans “a significant growth phase” and hopes to put more than 100,000 satellites in orbit and develop artificial intelligence data centers in space.

SpaceX acquired Musk’s xAI in February. That means SpaceX owns Grok and X as well as Musk's space-related projects, including Starlink.

Musk was not alone in cashing in. CNBC noted that SpaceX employees and executives who own the stock became millionaires and billionaires on Friday.

As of about noon on Friday, the stock had hit $165 a share, a 22 percent increase from its initial target price, according to CNN.

SpaceX on Friday was ranked the sixth-largest U.S. publicly traded company behind Nvidia, Alphabet (parent of Google), Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon.

Some commentators said one day does not a success make, as noted by CNBC.

“This was a successful launch, no doubt about it,” Jay Woods, chief market strategist at Freedom Capital Markets said. “The public demand is there, so that’s a good thing. But now we’ll wait to see if it can hold that open price, or was it an euphoric retail crowd driving it?”

President Donald Trump announced Thursday that airstrikes to be unleashed on Iran were called off because a peace deal was all but done. Iranian officials then confirmed a deal was on the table but would not say whether it was heading for the trash bin with the dozens of other peace deals proposed since the ceasefire between the two countries was declared on April 6.

The most recent turn of the diplomatic merry-go-round began Thursday when Trump said that “discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved."

However, according to Axios, Iran's Fars news agency -- essentially the propaganda arm of the IRGC --  said no final agreement had been reached, but there was a "possibility" Iran might agree to the latest revision of the deal.

Fars said an "informed source close to Iran's negotiation team" said "no text for a preliminary memorandum of understanding with the United States has been approved."

However, a later report that put Iran in the driver’s seat of negotiations said Iran’s leaders might "reconsider and review the agreement once again."

Iranian Foreign Ministry representative Esmail Baghaei claimed “the Americans kept changing their positions.”

"Iran has demonstrated that it does not compromise on what it has defined as its red lines," he said. "Iran has not yet reached a final decision regarding an agreement."

Iran's state news agency said whatever the deal says, it won’t release its grip on the Strait of Hormuz, according to CBS News.

"Iran makes no commitment in this text to cede the management of the strait or the restoration of conditions that existed prior to the American and Israeli military aggression," the official IRNA news agency said.

The report suggested a 60-day period to iron out the future of Iran’s nuclear program, the fate of which has consumed most of the past 60 days, would be part of the agreement.

Conceptually, Iran would agree to stop enriching uranium for 15 to 20 years and dismantle nuclear sites while being paid off for doing do.

A report from Axios confirmed that a fuzzy concept would be agreed upon now, with details to potentially come in 60 days.

Four Air Force C-17 planes went to Europe Thursday in what Axios said could be preparations for a signing ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland, that would be attended by Vice President JD Vance.

A source Axios said was diplomat it did not name said the initial agreement "goes into details on all the nuclear issues" and "satisfies all U.S. requirements."

The agreement also calls for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, the end of the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports.

The mother of “Today” host Savannah Guthrie was taken from her Tucson, Arizona, home on Feb. 1. Her disappearance has been considered a possible kidnapping.

Despite weeks of running down leads in Arizona, police have so far come up empty.

A new report says that a recent in search in Mexico failed to find any trace of the 84-year-old woman.

Buscando Corazones Nogales, which works to find missing people in Mexico, said it hunted for her body after getting an anonymous tip that she was buried near the border with the U.S., according to the New York Post.

Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz, head of the group, said the Wednesday tip claimed Guthrie was buried northwest of Nogales.

“We received an anonymous call telling us that the woman’s [Guthrie’s] remains were in the Mariposa area — in a grave over a stream,” Ayala Ortiz said.

The group found 25 unmarked graves in the area, he said.

However, it did not find Guthrie’s body.

The group said it plans to keep searching, whether to find Guthrie or the resting places of other missing people.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office, which is in charge of the investigation, said it was not in the loop about the Mexican tip.

“We are aware of reports regarding an anonymous tip related to the Nancy Guthrie investigation that was provided to a group in Mexico. At this time, we have not been contacted by Mexican authorities,” it said in a post on X.

“The investigation remains active and ongoing, and we will continue to follow up on any credible information."

Deputies did make an arrest related to the case, according to Hello!

Alexander Zabel Jr., 54, who broadcasts on YouTube, was arrested after neighbors complained about his activities.

"PCSD had received several complaints regarding Mr. Zabel's behavior. At the time of the incident, Mr. Zabel was live-streaming from outside the residence," a Sheriff’s Office statement read.

"Deputies made contact with him and, during the arrest process, a PCSD sergeant was knocked to the ground.

“Mr. Zabel was subsequently taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex. He is facing charges of resisting arrest and public nuisance."

Platner has tried to explain away his Totenkopf chest tattoo in a variety of ways. The symbol - synonymous with the perpetrators of the Holocaust, the Nazi Schutzstaffel - was only covered by the aspiring congressman in October 2025.

The Associated Press reported at the time Planter had just recently discovered the symbol's meaning, but an exclusive from the New York Post says otherwise. An ex-girlfriend of Planter's that he was seeing while married says he claimed to have gotten the tattoo to remind himself “the US was the evil bad guy overseas."

Their relationship was in 2021; Platner got the tattoo in 2007 on leave in Croatia while serving the military.

So no, he did not "recently" discover its meaning as late as 2025 if this woman is to be believed.

That's an outrageous claim. The United States liberated Europe from the tyranny of Nazi totalitarianism that saw the slaughter on millions of innocent people.

No one would proclaim the allied powers to be spotless - the Soviet Union and Joseph Stalin being the embodiment of evil - but where is Platner's moral compass if he's saying this about his own country?

This is the same man who threatened to "rape them to show that I'm dominant" when referring to would-be intruders in his home.

Where are the redeeming qualities in this candidate? So far, he's only been newsworthy for moronic comments like this and poor decision making.

Shortly before the start of World War 2, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union signed a Non-Aggression Pact, vowing to not impede in the other's plans in eastern Europe.

History repeats itself as the communists and Nazis are in league once again.

Planter's hatred of the United States qualifies him in the eyes of Democrats.

A disdain for freedom, meritocracy, and the Christian faith are the impetus of their hatred.

Conforming to the collective's needs, equality of outcome, and a secular worldview replace those underpinnings of the prosperity and happinesses hundreds of millions of Americans have enjoyed over the centuries.

Hardcore football fans may recognize the former Ohio State standout as one of the more athletic and dynamic linebackers to play in the NFL over the last decade.

That being said, the 31-year-old Lee has, sort of, begun to become more of a household name now that he's hung up his cleats.

The issue is that he's now becoming known for disturbing reasons.

According to the Associated Press, Lee -- a 2016 first-round pick for the New York Jets -- has been formally indicted on a first-degree murder charge related to his girlfriend's death, though he did have charges of evidence tampering ultimately dropped.

Lee allegedly murdered 29-year-old Gabriella Perpetuo in February.

An autopsy report revealed that Perpetuo appeared to have died from multiple blunt-force injuries. They included multiple hematomas, bone breaks, and stab wounds.

The details of the alleged murder are somehow even more grisly.

Fox News reported that during Lee's February hearing, one of the lead investigators who had stumbled on the crime scene described it as straight out of a horror movie.

The outlet said the investigator "testified there was blood on the staircase, handrails, walls, floors, and in nearly every room of the house. The detective added that the microwave glass was shattered, more glass was scattered throughout the home, and alcohol bottles were present throughout."

Lee will be tried in Hamilton County Criminal Court, and District Attorney Coty Wamp has confirmed that the case is eligible for a death penalty sentence, though a final decision is still pending.

But the most disturbing aspects of this situation came from what Lee allegedly did afterward.

Lee had apparently called police to report that he found Perpetuo unresponsive after she had seemingly hit her head in the shower.

Before calling authorities, however, prosecutors allege that Lee had actually consulted ChatGPT about some very suspicious inquiries.

The Associated Press reported, "He asked the artificial intelligence assistant whether a fall could cause bruising to two eyes and 'two stabby looking wounds.’"

Investigators also found chemical cleaning supplies at Lee's home, sparking concerns that he may have planned to clean up the blood.

For Lee, this is the latest development in a string of disturbing incidents involving law enforcement.

When he was arrested in February, Lee was on probation in both Ohio and Florida, after being charged in three separate alleged assaults involving a man, Lee's mother, and the mother of his child.

An arraignment date has not been set.

The fact that her own brother is accusing her, in effect, of being incompetent, has to be an embarrassment for the mayor, who is up for re-election in November.

L.A. Material reported, "Kenneth Bass and his wife, Cindy, filed their suit against the city on May 18 in L.A. Superior Court, according to public filings reviewed by L.A. Material. The couple’s claim, which has not been previously reported, is among thousands of claims lodged by home and business owners in connection with the fire that erupted on Jan. 7, 2025, and pushed westward into Malibu."

"The couple allege injuries from smoke inhalation as well as distress and anguish from the destruction of their home, which had a pool, putting green and panoramic views overlooking Malibu Pier," the news outlet added.

Mayor Bass was in Africa attending the inauguration of the president of Ghana when the wildfires broke out.

While speaking to the Pacific Palisades Community Council in late January 2025, Bass revealed that her brother Ken, 78, had been one of the victims of the fire. He is a contractor who owns a kitchen remodeling business in Los Angeles.

“The loss that you’re going through, I share indirectly. It’s hit my family too,” the mayor said, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The news outlet noted that Ken and Cindy Bass' claim is "being processed as part of a master lawsuit alleging that numerous public entities and utility companies -- including the city, the state, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the California Department of Parks and Recreation and Southern California Edison -- bear responsibility for the harms residents suffered in the Palisades fire, which destroyed some 6,800 structures and killed 12 people."

In the case of the Palisades Fire, response efforts were greatly hampered by a lack of water in the area due to a major reservoir being empty for many months for repair.

Bass’ press secretary, Paige Sterling, said in a statement that there was “nothing new” in her brother's decision to sue Los Angeles.

“Mayor Bass has spoken of her brother’s loss publicly since January of 2025,” she said. “Thousands of people are plaintiffs in this action, which names 18 public and private sector defendants. The City Attorney’s Office is responsible for defending the City and DWP in this lawsuit.”

Republican Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt, who came in third in last week's primary, said Bass' incompetence in responding to the wildfires, during which he lost his Palisades home, motivated him to enter the race.

Last week, Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California blamed President Donald Trump for the anger residents of Los Angeles feel, despite the Republican not taking office until weeks after the wildfires.

“Look, I think that there is a lot of hurt and anger after the fires. My view is that the blame of that really needs to go on Donald Trump,” Khanna, whose district is in the San Francisco Bay Area, said.

Trump took office on Jan. 20, 2025, and days later traveled to Los Angeles to see how the recovery effort was going.

At the time, he voiced frustration with Bass over how slowly the recovery efforts were progressing, noting that residents were still not able to access their properties, and permits to rebuild were expected to take at least 18 months under state and local policies.

“You have emergency powers just like I do… You have to exercise them also,” Trump said.

Fox News reported that the wildfires scorched more than 37,700 acres and destroyed over 16,200 structures in the Los Angeles area.

In April, Politico noted 2,135 rebuild permits had been approved of the 4,157 applied for.

The thousands of Los Angeles area residents impacted by the fires have a lot to be upset about, both in the immediate response and the slow recovery efforts.

No wonder Ken Bass is suing the city that his sister runs.

Speaking with CNN's Kaitlan Collins on Wednesday, Greene responded to allegations in a new book that the White House held high-level meetings on the Jeffrey Epstein files. She called Trump a "traitor" for his handling of the situation.

The book, written by New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, says that Trump took many figures to task -- including the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk -- for focusing too much on Epstein, according to Mediaite.

When asked to respond, Greene said this was "not new news" to her.

"Unfortunately, that was something that I lived through," she said.

"I watched the speaker of the House shut down the government for, and keep the House completely out of session, for eight weeks, in the fall of 2025, simply because he was under orders of the president, and his team, not to do anything in the House of Representatives because they were doing everything they could do to stop that resolution from passing the House, the same resolution that I signed, the discharge petition, to force to a vote on the floor," Greene alleged.

She went on to say, "This doesn't shock me that his team was paralyzed. But I'll tell you what it is. It's absolutely ridiculous and unforgivable.

"We're talking about pedophiles and rapists of the elite class of people that never get held accountable for anything," she said.

"So, if they were paralyzed and scared and didn't know what to do about releasing the Epstein files? These people are absolutely absurd. They don't deserve the American people's trust.

The Constitution defines treason very narrowly, stating in Article III, Section 3 that it "shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort."

Greene, controversial since her 2020 election -- and stripped of her committee assignments in 2021 over a set of old social media posts that promoted conspiracy theories, including one that was invariably referred to, mockingly, as "Jewish space lasers" in media coverage -- had long been one of the president's biggest backers.

However, the Epstein case caused a terminal break in the relationship between the White House and Greene. She announced she was resigning when it was clear that the president's allies were preparing a primary challenge against her. (Greene denied that there had been an earlier split in an interview last November when she addressed rumors the chill began when Trump advised her against running for Senate or governor of Georgia, but those stories persist.)

Greene subsequently raised her media profile, including appearances on heretofore hostile outlets like CNN and The New York Times, which have interviewed and profiled her since her resignation announcement.

When a player is taken 12th overall, like former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III was in the 2020 NFL Draft, they're usually saddled with superstar-level expectations.

And for a while, it looked like Ruggs would have a chance to live up to those expectations, due to his incredible athleticism and speed.

Then came November 2021.

According to Fox News, on the night of Nov. 2, Ruggs was driving his Chevrolet Corvette going 156 miles per hour in Las Vegas when he crashed into the car of 23-year-old Tina Tintor.

Both Tintor and her dog, Max, died after her car erupted in flames.

Of note, Ruggs had registered a blood alcohol level of .16 -- twice the legal limit in Nevada -- on the night of the tragic incident.

In May 2023, Ruggs pleaded guilty to a felony DUI causing death, as well as a charge of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.

That August, Ruggs was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison.

For the now-27-year-old Ruggs, the prison sentence effectively ended the talented wideout's career before it could ever really take off -- unless he can be granted parole.

However, as ESPN reported, the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners denied Ruggs' parole request on Thursday, despite the best attempts of the former NFL player's legal team.

"Mr. Ruggs, and our office, continue to feel the grief and loss suffered by Ms. Tintor's family," Ruggs' legal team said Thursday. They expressed disappointment with the parole denial.

One of the attorneys had even pleaded for the board to ignore Ruggs' celebrity status during a May hearing.

"Sometimes being high-profile makes it more of a burden," one of the attorneys had said, "and I would most respectfully ask everybody to treat Henry the way they would anybody that comes before them, except for the fact that I think he's tried to do as much as humanly possible to send a message that his behavior was unacceptable."

During that same May hearing, Ruggs also pleaded his case, claiming that he was genuinely remorseful for the deadly incident, and that he took "full responsibility for my actions that led to Ms. Tintor's death and her dog, Max. Not a minute goes by where I don't think of the pain I caused her family, her friends and the Las Vegas community. I'm a religious person, and I pray for her family daily."

Ruggs also told the board then that he had spoken to Tintor's brother to apologize profusely.

Ruggs' supporters had also offered plenty of testimony about the way in which the former Raider had reformed for the better following his life-changing arrest.

"He wants to be a good citizen," Ruggs' agent said. "He wants to be someone that's positive."

One of Ruggs' mentors, meanwhile, told ESPN that the former NFL standout had much different plans for the rest of his life: "We're trying to be the No. 1 advocate [against] DUI, drunk driving."

While many consider Ruggs' NFL career to be effectively over, numerous reports and rumblings have suggested that he would like to resume a professional football career, if at all possible.

Ruggs would be 28 for the 2027 NFL season, should he be granted parole by then.

According to a news release from Peel Regional Police, 59-year-old Geoffrey Wall of Barrie, Ontario, was arrested June 1.

The investigation began in January after Transport Canada launched a review of Wall's pilot credentials.

Police said the veteran pilot worked as an Air Canada captain from 2009 through 2025 without holding the required airline transport pilot license, which is needed to pilot large commercial aircraft models such as the Boeing 777.

Authorities said Wall did hold a commercial pilot license, but a lower-level one.

Police said Wall forged documents and lied to the airline and government about his qualifications.

According to police, Wall flew more than 900 domestic and international flights during that time and collected more than $2.1 million in salary.

Wall retired from Air Canada in 2025 before the investigation began.

He is facing charges of fraud over $5,000, two counts of uttering forged documents, three counts of possessing counterfeit marks, and a single count of public mischief.

Police also alleged that Wall filed a false report claiming pilot documents had been stolen.

Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich said that Wall had “been flying for years misrepresenting himself and his credentials to his employer and regulatory officials using fraudulent licensing documents.”

"This is similar to a doctor that is licensed to practice family medicine but is doing brain surgery in their office," Milinovich added, according to CBS News.

Air Canada said in a statement that no passengers were endangered by Wall during his more than 900 flights for the company.

“Safety was not compromised by this incident because all pilots at Air Canada undergo mandatory recurrent training every six months to validate their flying competency, including a flight check with a certified Transport Canada check-pilot every 12 months,” the airline said.

Air Canada added: "Also, pilot licences are cross-checked by a certified check pilot twice a year as part of the recurrent checks and training, and Air Canada has reinforced its administrative practices when physically verifying licences.
"This includes verifying the original documents issued by Transport Canada."
"Throughout his employment with Air Canada, the man was a fully trained pilot who held a valid Commercial Pilot Licence, and he successfully met or exceeded the required recurrent training, demonstrating a high level of competency to safely operate large aircraft."

As noted by the New York Post, since the Hamas massacre of Israeli civilians in October 2023, Seinfeld has been open about his disdain for the concept of a Palestinian nation.

In February 2025, an influencer who asked Seinfeld for a selfie recorded himself saying “Free Palestine” while standing next to Seinfeld.

“I don’t care about Palestine,” Seinfeld said then.

In May 2025, a protester filmed himself saying Seinfeld supported the genocide of babies in Gaza.

“Only you,” Seinfeld said as he walked off.

In May 2024, booing and a walkout greeted him when he gave the commencement address at Duke University.

“Free Palestine is, to me, just -- you’re free to say you don’t like Jews. Just say you don’t like Jews,” Seinfeld said in a speech at Duke in 2025, according to the Duke Chronicle.

“By saying Free Palestine, you’re not admitting what you really think,” he said. “So it’s actually — compared to the Ku Klux Klan, I’m actually thinking the Klan is actually a little better here, because they can come right out and say, ‘We don’t like Blacks, we don’t like Jews.’ OK, that’s honest,"

In 2024, Seinfeld was heckled while doing a show in Australia, as noted by the Jerusalem Post.

"We have a genius, ladies and gentlemen. He solved the Middle East," Seinfeld said then. "It's the Jewish comedians; that's what we have to get."

In December 2023, he visited Israel, toured the remains of communities devastated by Hamas, and said he was “proud to be an ambassador for spreading the truth throughout the world.”

They've blamed "white supremacy" for the prosecution -- Anthony is black, his victim was white. They've blamed racism among prosecutors for keeping blacks off the jury.

And on Wednesday, his father put the blame, at least in part, on his son's "white attorney" for the fact that Karmelo is going to prison.

Media personality Mimi Brown -- a fixture on the black-oriented radio program "The Breakfast Club" -- spoke to Anthony's parents, Kayla Hayes and Andrew Anthony, during an interview Wednesday.

At one point, she asked the two, "So, do you believe your son received a fair trial?"

Both replied, "absolutely not" and Hayes promised to "keep fighting." Brown also asked if the two would have done anything differently.

If you were hoping these parents would say something about raising their son not to stab other kids, or teaching him to be mature and walk away in a conflict that could escalate, you'll be disappointed.

Andrew Anthony replied, "I wish I would have just been rebellious. I was told, 'Don't talk to this person.' 'Don't talk to this person.' I feel like it was just a set-up. So, they told us, go get white attorneys. Every black person I went to, 'white attorney.'"

The quotes posted to Brown's account on the social media platform X are obviously heavily edited, but the substance comes through. (An expanded version of the interview is available on "The Breakfast Club" YouTube channel here. The quotes about the attorney start about the 12-minute mark.)

It's true that Anthony's attorney, Mike Howard. is white. But it's also true that he's someone who had the nearly impossible task of defending the indefensible.

Anthony killed 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a track meet in Frisco, Texas, in April 2025. At the time, Anthony had entered a tent that was reserved for a rival high school's track team.

Witness testimony told the court that Metcalf and other students in the tent asked Anthony to leave and he belligerently refused. “I’m not leaving, f**k you all,” he said, according to the Daily Caller News Foundation. He called them “a bunch of p***ies” adding they were “not going to do nothing about it,” according to the DCNF.

Witnesses also said Anthony challenged Metcalf to touch him and "see what happens" as he reached into his bag, grabbing the knife he would use for the murder.

One witness testified that Anthony was surrounded, perhaps his strongest defense if he had any, painting the picture of a panicked young man who found himself outnumbered, but that wasn't the case.

As the DCNF reported, he was surrounded, but it was after he stabbed Metcalf, as surveillance footage showed.

So, he wasn't surrounded, he was mouthing off, and he ignored students telling him to leave their tent since he wasn't from their school.

According to the New York Post, Metcalf gave Anthony a shove before the stabbing, but that detail doesn't help Anthony's case.

Someone shoves you, so you kill them? That is not legally "self-defense" as the jury or any thinking person concluded.

With the facts in mind, it wouldn't have mattered if the attorney was white or black.

Anthony could have hired Johnny Cochran and still lost.

As you've probably heard, the biggest departure was host Scott Pelley, who whinged to The New York Times this weekend about how he could berate management, have it somehow leaked to the media as if he were a hero (a leak which I'm sure had nothing to do with Pelley or his camp), and somehow get fired. Why, the nerve of these folks!

Wow, man. Wow. This brave soldier of democracy put his life on the line for his profession's ideals, and all he got was a boss who insisted "60 Minutes" get better and win America's trust.

But why wouldn't we trust them? Well, how about this bit of journalisming from 2020, when CBS News' flagship show refused to discuss Hunter Biden's laptop because they said it wasn't verified.

The interview aired in late October -- and the section wasn't included in the final cut, tellingly -- just after it had broken that Hunter Biden's toxic laptop was in the hands of both authorities and certain media outlets.

The laptop was reportedly dropped off at a repair shop in Delaware and forgotten while Hunter was at his lowest, which certainly made the story believable. Also, the laptop had apparently been in the hands of the FBI for some time, and they hadn't come out to say it was false.

Yet, after Trump called it "one of the biggest scandals I've ever seen" because of not only the contents of the laptop but the media cover-up of it -- remember, you'd get throttled for even sharing any of this on social media at the time -- interviewer Leslie Stahl said she didn't want to talk about it "because it can't be verified."

"Of course it can be verified," Trump said. "Excuse me, they found the laptop -- what can't be verified?"

"The laptop," Stahl responded.

"Why do you say that?" Trump said, noting that even the Biden family didn't deny the laptop was Hunter's, just that some experts said it smelled like disinformation. (It wasn't.)

But nope: can't be verified!

Actually, it had been well verified by the FBI as early as 2019, an Internal Revenue Service whistleblower said, and the feds had told social media companies it was legit when the story broke.

But these crack gumshoe journalists at CBS News not only couldn't find any of this verification, it sounds as if they weren't particularly interested in finding it, either.

According to The Washington Post, U.S. diplomats in the Colombian capital of Bogotá told Colombian officials that a planned meeting between Democratic Mayor Zohran Mamdani of New York City and leftist Colombian President Gustavo Petro in New York this week would violate U.S.-imposed visa restrictions against Petro.

Colombian officials took that to mean that the U.S. might arrest Petro if he went ahead with the Mamdani meeting.

Petro's visa restrictions stem from comments he made outside United Nations headquarters in September 2025.

"I ask all the soldiers of the army of the U.S. not to point their rifles at humanity," the Colombian president said to a group of pro-Palestinian supporters. "Disobey the orders of Trump. Obey the orders of humanity."

"A visa is a privilege, not a right," a State Department official told the Post. "Any individual’s U.S. visa is at risk of revocation if they visit America and outrageously implore U.S. soldiers to disobey orders of the duly elected president of the United States."

Petro has also accused Trump of being "complicit in genocide" for supporting Israel's war in Gaza. Trump, meanwhile, called the democratic socialist a "lunatic who’s got a lot of problems, mental problems."

The two presidents did have what Trump characterized as a "terrific" meeting in February.

Since then, however, Petro has reportedly irritated Secretary of State Marco Rubio by criticizing U.S. boat strikes in Latin America and the capture earlier this year of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

According to The New York Times, the Colombian president's criticisms of the boat strikes in particular prompted sanctions from the U.S. Treasury. Federal prosecutors also launched an investigation into possible drug-trafficking ties.

Still, Petro has continued to criticize the Trump administration and its support for Israel.

At the UN on Wednesday, for instance, the Colombian president declared that "the state of Palestine should be free and sovereign."

In the past, the Rubio-led State Department has not hesitated to use the revocation of visas as leverage against foreigners who express support for the Palestinian cause.

Most notably, in March 2025, federal agents arrested Rumeysa Ozturk, a Ph.D student at Tufts University in Massachusetts, who wrote a pro-Palestinian Op-Ed.

Then, in August, Rubio revoked the visas of Mahmoud Abbas, president of the Palestinian Authority, along with 80 other officials.

Trump has responded to Petro's criticisms by endorsing the right-wing candidate in Colombia's upcoming presidential election, the Times reported.

Mamdani's meeting with Petro had been scheduled for Friday at a university, where the mayor planned a public forum.

According to CBS News, 41-year-old Jonathan Pettigrew was fatally shot about 2:30 p.m. Monday after confronting another passenger who was speaking loudly on a phone aboard a bus in the Bronx.

At some point during what was an exchange of words, the other passenger -- described by the New York Post as being between 13 and 16 years old -- opened fire on Pettigrew.

Surveillance video showed passengers rushing off the bus before the victim collapsed on a sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Pettigrew was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to WABC-TV.

The NYPD told CBS News that the complaint over the volume of the phone call was what ultimately led to the shooting.

Pettigrew had apparently asked the suspect to stop yelling into his phone before the situation escalated into a murder in broad daylight.

Pilice said the killer fled the scene immediately after he opened fire.

He has not been arrested or identified.

Neither WABC nor CBS News offered a specific description of the alleged killer, other than to tell the public to be on the lookout for a young male in a white shirt.

As of Thursday, no arrests had been announced, and investigators had not released any images of the suspect.

Pettigrew, who leaves behind seven children, had recently been awarded full custody of his 7-year-old daughter.

Avery Pettigrew, the victim’s brother, told CBS News that the family was grappling with how to tell his niece that her father had been murdered.

Jonathan Pettigrew worked at a restaurant and was a sports fan, his brother said. He added that he could not believe the life of someone he loved had been taken the way it had.

"They told me my brother was deceased and I didn't believe it," he told the network.

And that's particularly true when it comes to the matter of illegal immigration.

According to a Harvard-Harris online poll, Trump's immigration policies in particular continue to earn broad support even from non-Republicans.

Most notably, a majority of voters approved of deporting all illegal immigrants.

The poll, conducted May 29-31, included 1,725 registered voters.

Overall, 56 percent of respondents expressed support for arguably Trump's signature 2024 campaign pledge: The largest deportation operation in history.

That number included 77 percent of Republicans, 53 percent of Independents, and even 37 percent of Democrats.

Meanwhile, deporting illegal immigrants who committed additional crimes while in the U.S. received massive bipartisan support. Ninety percent of Republicans approved, along with 77 percent of Independents and 71 percent of Democrats. Overall, 80 percent of respondents said they agreed.

One Harvard-Harris subheading told the story: "MOST TRUMP POLICIES RECEIVE MAJORITY SUPPORT, WITH LOWERING DRUG PRICES, DEPORTING CRIMINAL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, AND CUTTING GOVERNMENT WASTE THE MOST POPULAR."

In fact, the pollster tested a total of 21 Trump policies. Only two received below 50 percent support.

"Hiring an additional 20,000 border patrol and ICE agents to conduct immigration raids and policing within different parts of the country" received only 47 percent support overall, 74 percent from Republicans, 42 percent from Independents, and 22 percent -- lowest in the entire survey -- from Democrats.

That result suggests that Democrats' attacks on Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, rhetorical and literal, have paid dividends.

Trump, meanwhile, has struggled to turn popular policies into political gain.

According to RealClearPolling, the latest aggregate of polls has the president's approval rating slightly north of 40 percent. That represents a 10-point decline since the beginning of his second administration.

Of course, prominent former supporters such as conservative podcaster Tucker Carlson and former Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia have broken with the president over the war in Iran and the administration's handling of files pertaining to the late sex offender and suspected sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

Nonetheless, 75 percent of poll respondents agreed that it is in U.S. interests to stop Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, and the Epstein files did not even appear among Harvard-Harris' 21 tested policies.

That suggests that many voters feel dissatisfied with the Trump administration because they wish to see more deportations.

In January, following ICE's surge into Minneapolis, Minnesota, things turned violent. Aggressive anti-ICE protesters put themselves in harm's way, resulting in the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

The president responded by promising a "softer touch" in immigration enforcement.

Since then, Trump has made the war in Iran his first priority.

The play of the game by far came from Republican Sen. Eric Schmitt of Missouri.

In the bottom of the third inning, with the GOP leading 3-0, the left fielder Schmitt chased a fly ball down the left field line and made a diving catch worthy of any highlight reel.

"What a dive!" a C-SPAN announcer gushed in a clip posted to the social media platform X. "Oh, what a great play!"

"Eric Schmitt," another announced. "Amazing catch down the left-field line!"

"The Redbirds would be proud of a play like that!" the first announcer said. The St. Louis Cardinals of Schmitt's Missouri are sometimes referred to as the Redbirds.

The GOP senator's legitimately athletic play also resulted in a bit of a bloody nose.

"He covered a lot of ground," the second announcer said of the distance Schmitt ran to catch the ball. "Got high on the horse there. And that was gonna be a fair ball, I think."

Indeed, the replay showed that Schmitt robbed the Democrats of a likely double.

The Missouri senator also won game MVP.

According to Roll Call, the victory gave the GOP its sixth consecutive win in the series.

Played at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., home of the Washington Nationals, the annual charity game raised a record-breaking $3.2 million-plus, thanks to more than 32,000 tickets sold.

Looking ahead, the projected 2027 Republicans appear even more formidable.

While the 2026 midterm elections could alter rosters, Republican Mark Teixeira, a former All-Star and World Series winner who played 14 seasons in the major leagues, appears poised to succeed Republican Rep. Chip Roy of Texas, who announced in August 2025 that he will run for Texas state attorney general rather than seek another term in Congress.

According to Reuters, authorities are investigating a tracing of those numbers -- a popular code among progressives that effectively means somehow nixing the current and 47th president, Donald Trump -- into the mall just before the nation's 250th birthday.

Still, as social media users noted, it would be a shock were it anything else.

Reuters reported that it was unknown how the massive markings in the grass were made, simply that it was turned brown through some form of tracing that had gone undetected.

The "86 47" term has become a point of contention on the limits of freedom of speech as it pertains to inciting violence. While most of the people who use the phrase say they want Trump's "86'ing" to be peaceful, there are no serious attempts at impeachment nor prospect of conviction in the Senate. This means the only way Trump would lose the presidency would likely involve incapacity or death.

The most prominent individual to test the limits of the phrase was former FBI Director James Comey, who posted a version of the meme to Instagram only to delete it later.

In April, Comey was charged with threatening President Donald Trump.

“Threatening the life of the president of the United States is a grave violation of our nation’s laws,” acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a Department of Justice statement.

“The grand jury returned an indictment alleging James Comey did just that, at a time when this country has witnessed violent incitement followed by deadly actions against President Trump and other elected officials. The temperature needs to be turned down, and anyone who dials it up and threatens the life of the president will be held accountable.”

Now, one of the biggest claims going around was that black jurors were excluded from the process and that Anthony's verdict was delivered at the hands of an all-white panel.

There are voices from outside the courthouse all the way to the halls of Congress echoing this. But is it accurate?

Anthony was convicted in just three hours of deliberations in the murder case and he was sentenced to 35 years. At a 2025 high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, Anthony -- who was from a rival school -- entered the team tent of Metcalf's squad and, when confronted by Metcalf to leave, pulled a knife from his backpack and stabbed him.

While he claimed that the stabbing was in self-defense, witness after witness described Anthony as the aggressor in the encounter.

The trial took days, but the jury just took hours. According to many, this was because the prosecution had excluded black jurors and gotten an all-white panel.

Take Rep. Jasmine Crockett, the Democratic Texas firebrand who lost the Senate nomination to James Talarico and had her seat effectively erased by the state's redistricting. On her podcast, Fox News reported, she thought that this was rigged:

"I’m not necessarily convinced -- not that I could tell you the name of one person on this jury -- that we had 12 impartial white folk out of Collin County sitting on a jury for this young black man," she said.

And likewise, activist Dominique Alexander repeated this, saying that blacks were excluded and whites convicted Anthony.

But was this accurate? No.

Again, from Fox News:

Sources close to the trial confirmed to Fox News Digital that the jury was not made up only of white people, despite Crockett's claim, which has been parroted by activists online.

Of the 12 jurors, three were racial minorities, including Asian and Indian, eight were women and four were men. They confirmed that of the 18 total jurors, including alternates, six were minorities.

Now, there was another side that noted simply that there were no black jurors, with certain implications attached to it:

This is true, but it's not necessarily nefarious -- or even racial.

In jury selection, you get preemptive strikes on both sides. From KDFW-TV, here's an explanation of that matter:

The final phase of jury selection grew tense when defense attorneys lodged a formal objection during the second round of strikes. The defense argued that the state improperly struck down three potential Black female jurors who were "similarly situated" to a white female juror allowed to remain on the panel.

Prosecutors strongly denied that race played a factor. Assistant District Attorney Dewey Mitchell clarified that all three women were struck because they listed their occupations as educators. Because the fatal incident occurred at a school-sponsored athletic function involving school-aged children, prosecutors seemingly did not want traditional educators on the panel.

State District Judge John Roach Jr. ultimately sided with the prosecution, allowing the strikes to stand. While one educator was successfully seated on the 12-person jury, she is an esthetician at a trade school and does not work with high school-aged children.

In other words, the prosecution believed that educators might be more likely to see Anthony as one of their own students, while Metcalf wasn't alive to represent himself in the flesh. This is perfectly sound logic, legally, although one cannot read inside the hearts of any man when he makes a decision, merely that it was made on meritorious grounds and granted.

As for an all-white jury, though, no -- it was not that.

At a more problematic level is the fact that this wording seems intentional -- namely, that he who is not black, or does not sympathize with radical black causes, is white. Neither Crockett nor Alexander is a fool, and both have been involved in the case at some level.

If they don't know full well that the jury was not all-white, it brings into question their soundness of mind and judgment. However, what we seem to be hearing here is a dog whistle: Black jurors would have looked beyond the facts, they believe, that were so overwhelming it took a jury just three hours to convict.

This isn't just insulting to black Americans, but telling in terms of the level at which Crockett, Alexander, and their professional race-baiting ilk operate. It's also another argument against the ideal of the liberal multicultural society. Society only works when we all agree on the rules -- and letting guilty people free is hardly following the rules.

A rowdy crowd of the same ilk who turned a Game 3 watch party into a riot tossed objects at San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama after New York defeated San Antonio 107-106 on Wednesday night.

The 7-foor-5 Wembanyama made an easy target as he trudged off the team bus and toward the Ritz-Carlton.

At least one object was thrown at him and hit a street sign, according to the New York Post.

At one point, the center ducked.

Security guards moved in to ensure he made the rest of the way safely.

The incident added to the ugly behavior of New York City fans, who after a Spurs victory in Game 3 on Monday, swarmed a San Antonio fan on a Manhattan street, beat him and took his jersey, according to ABC. Police are still seeking suspects.

But if the streets of Manhattan were full of mayhem, within Madison Square Garden there was the sense that a sports miracle had taken place: A team down by almost 30 points had found a way to come back and win and put itself on the cusp of a championship.

“This will live in those special places not just in Knicks lore, not just in NBA lore, but in sports lore. This is one of the great comebacks — 29 points, most in NBA Finals history — in sports history. The U.K. has had enough.

Violence and unrest are terrible, but the political class has had multiple opportunities to stop this.

They ignored their own people and put migrants first.

They did not listen to the pleas of a people who were tired of having their country overrun.

They were tired of seeing young girls trafficked and raped, while murder, theft, and thuggish behavior were allowed to flourish.

The strikes came a day after the Iranians brought down a U.S. Apache helicopter that had been flying off the coast of Oman with a drone.

The pilots were able to bring the helicopter down into the Gulf of Oman.

They were then safely rescued using an unmanned seagoing drone.

Fox News reported that he will be the third sitting vice president to appear on the program. All six "View" co-hosts, including Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Ana Navarro, are expected to be on hand.

"The View's" hosts are known for being notoriously anti-Donald Trump and his administration. Even the two Republicans on the program -- Navarro and Griffin -- are harsh critics of the president.

Haines admitted in January 2025, shortly after Trump took office for his second term, that none of them had voted for him.

The Media Research Center determined that in 2025, "The View" had 128 left-leaning guests and only two conservatives.

"'The View’ is not shy about the fact that what they say and do is all meant to push the agenda of the Democratic Party, whether it’s smearing Trump and his allies or specifically elevating Democratic politicians. It’s why they’ve only spoken to liberals about politics on the show so far this year," NewsBusters associate editor Nicholas Fondacaro told Fox News last year.

The Media Research Center explained its methodology: "For a guest to be counted as either liberal or conservative, they needed to express such views during their appearance on 'The View.' If a celebrity did not discuss politics, they were not included in the count of political leanings even if they had a history of being outspoken in the past."

Last month, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr asked the public to weigh in on whether ABC’s “The View” qualifies as a news program, and therefore is not subject to broadcast laws requiring it to provide access to differing political views.

Carr posted on social media, “Disney [ABC's parent company] has filed a petition with the FCC asking the agency to declare that The View is exempt from the statutory equal opportunities requirements that would otherwise apply to broadcast shows.”

“Under FCC case law, TV shows do not qualify as ‘bona fide news’ if their decisions are based on partisan purposes, such as an intention to advance or harm an individual’s candidacy,” the commission explained.

Further, “These regulations, which do not apply to cable channels [Fox News, CNN, etc.] or other forms of distribution [like podcasts], represent, in codified form, the decision by Congress that broadcast television stations [ABC, CBS, NBC] have an obligation to operate in the public interest — not in any narrow partisan, political interest.”

So perhaps ABC's decision to host Vance is a way to offer an olive branch.

Vance will discuss his new book "Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith."

The vice president told Fox News host Jesse Watters earlier this week that he went to church on and off as a child, but by the time he joined the Marine Corps, Christianity really did not mean that much to him, so he discarded it.

Vance told Watters that when he became a father for the first time, he began to turn back to faith.  He wanted to be a virtuous person and raise his newborn son based on enduring values.

"For me, what attracted me to Catholicism was there was this sense of rootedness in it," Vance recounted. "I just really loved that sense of tradition... When I went to the Catholic Church, I felt at home."

Vance noted that his wife, Usha, who is Hindu, has been supportive of his faith journey, telling him it has made him a better person.

Crowds of citizens took to the streets, demonstrating that they have lost their patience with a government that puts migrant populations first.

The New York Post reported Tuesday that the alleged perpetrator of this heinous crime is 30-year-old Hadi Alodid. Stephen Olgilvie, 44, was identified as the victim seen pinned down, visibly bleeding from his face as his attacker viciously maimed him.

The U.K. Guardian reported Olgilvie's family has spoken out, denouncing the unrest in a statement that will likely please the leftist policy makers who are scrambling to keep up their globalist quest.

The family said they want to “make it absolutely clear that overnight unrest is not welcome.”

The statement continued: “This has been a massive shock to our whole family, and right now our only priority is being at his bedside and helping him recover.

“We are aware of the tensions and talk of protests following this incident. We want to make it absolutely clear that overnight unrest is not welcome, and peaceful protest is the only way forward.

“We have many migrants who make a deeply valuable contribution to our country, including in our healthcare system and hospitality sector, and we depend on them to make our country work. We do not want this terrible tragedy to be used to divide people or fuel hostility.”

Firstly, we must have compassion for a grieving family.

The outlet reports Olgilvie has been hospitalized, having suffered multiple stab wounds and lost an eye.

However, the statement is music to the ears of leftists in the media and Prime Minister Kier Starmer, who frequently make the "good migrants" argument.

Certainly, there are plenty of non-native British residents who don't act like barbarians.

But their country has a massive problem, because they have a consistent pattern of being terrorized by those who do.

Not only that, but they also have a two-tiered justice system that gives migrants a pass because they don't want to be called racist.

Public voices must be brutally honest. Mass migration has failed.

A policy of letting just anyone from anywhere come to the U.K. does not work.

Multiculturalism only creates tension that leads to pandemonium.

The path forward is remigration.

A report from CNN said the incident was a false alarm, citing sources it did not name.

The report said some floors and corridors had been evacuated.

Other parts of the Pentagon, listed as "floors two through five in corridors four through seven," were on lockdown, according to CNN's sources.

CNN reported that police who entered the building "wore gas masks and full chemical protective gear."

CNN said that the Pentagon Force Protection Agency’s hazardous materials response team responded to the incident.

The Arlington County Fire Department posted on X "ACFD units, including our Hazardous Materials Team, are currently operating at the Pentagon in support of PFPA’s Hazmat Team during a hazardous materials incident.”

A Pentagon security message said an “air quality issue” was detected, prompting tests, CNN reported.

“This additional testing could take one to two hours. Response teams are in place and ready to support building occupants if necessary,” the message said.

According to CNBC, about 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports went through Kharg Island before the war.

CNBC reported that Trump told Fox News said he is unsure “America has the stomach” to carry out his plan.

A report on CNN said that plans for the U.S. seizure of Kharg Island have existed for months, but have not been acted upon.

Seizing the island or destroying its energy infrastructure could lead to a bankrupt nation that could no longer fight a war, the thinking goes.

The downside is that taking control of the island requires a lot of American boots on the ground, which could set the stage for U.S. casualties.

Airstrikes on Kharg Island have targeted its defenses, but not its energy infrastructure.

"And we'll see what happens with the deal. We were really close to a deal, but they keep tapping us along. They keep playing us for suckers,” he said.

Instead, we're seeing the torches and pitchforks come out in one of the most outrageously inept, callous, and illogical moves possible: There are now calls to charge Hunter Metcalf with assault.

Assault for what exactly? How does a child watching his brother get stabbed and seeing him die in his arms warrant an assault charge? These are the right questions, but the wrong ones in being generous enough to Anthony's supporters to assume reason has dictated any decision they've made since the verdict and sentencing.

These people are acting like bloodthirsty animals.

Hunter Metcalf's assault on Karmelo Anthony contributed to his twin brother’s death and cannot be ignored. It is critical for maintaining public trust in the judicial system that Metcalf be held accountable for his actions. The immediate arrest of Metcalf and a thorough investigation into the incident are paramount. To ensure justice is served, we also demand the release of all video footage of the original incident on April 2, 2025.

Releasing the video footage will allow an unbiased evaluation of the incident and offer a clear picture of what occurred that day. It will also provide the evidence needed to take the necessary legal actions to address any wrongful conduct. This is not merely a call for justice for Karmelo Anthony, but a call for justice for all Black Americans who have been victims of violence and systemic bias.  We demand that Collin County and Frisco, TX authorities be investigated for mishandling the murder trial of Karmelo Anthony.

The lack of accountability in the language here is childlike. Anthony murdered someone and Metcalf is responsible for the murder.

The jury has seen everything. They've heard the testimony.

Anthony plunged a knife into that young man's heart after challenging him to "touch me and see what happens."

The most thought-provoking language from the petition comes at the beginning when the petition author writes, "As a member of the Black community in America, the ongoing injustices we face daily have reached a tipping point."

Using the "Black community" as a convenient shorthand term to refer to black Americans as a whole should be abandoned.

There is no "community." The phrase only harms race relations be perpetuating a collectivist mentality where people of the same skin color are enticed to support the dumbest causes possible, supposedly for the sake of people who are just like them.

If the petition was not bad enough, Texas Attorney and race hustler Thelma Anderson, told a crowd of Anthony supporters to Metcalfs are "domestic racist terrorists."

She said the Anthony family has been "legally lynched" in an interview with commentator Roland Martin. After calling the Metcalf side "pigs" she concluded they are "celebrating the loss of life and the loss of freedom."

Anderson seems to forget Metcalf was stabbed to death.

Trump revealed that he was directly contacted by Iranian officials Wednesday, according to Fox News. The U.S. attacked Iran on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Trump said that 49 Tomahawk missiles were used along with fighter jets that targeted radar and air defense systems.

Locations about 40 miles from Tehran and along Iran’s Persian Gulf Coast were hit.

"CENTCOM forces launched strikes on Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communication systems, and air defense sites across Iran. U.S. Marine Corps, Air Force, and Navy assets fired precision munitions on Iranian targets that posed a threat to U.S. forces and international commercial ships transiting regional waters," U.S. Central Command posted on X.

Trump said if Iran keeps dragging its feet on signing a peace deal, a third night of attacks could take place, according to Fox News.

“We'll bomb the s—t out of them tomorrow,” Trump said.

Trump noted that if the peace talks that have been eclipsed by the recent fighting bear fruit, he wants to sign an the deal Switzerland, according to Fox News.

Vice President JD Vance said Iran's political leadership and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps are both involved in the talks, with the IRGC responsible for most of the difficulties in reaching a deal.

On Thursday, the U.S. hit an Iranian cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman, according to CBS News.

Iran kept up its attacks, with Jordan reporting it blocked 20 Iranian missiles apparently aimed at Azraq, which has a military base housing U.S. planes.

On Wednesday, Jordan said it downed five Iranian missiles. Bahrain and Kuwait, were also targeted.

Iran's foreign ministry warned Arab neighbors have a "legal and moral responsibility" to stop attacks against it.

Iran called upon “countries in the region (especially those located along the southern shores of the Persian Gulf) to prevent the U.S. military and Israel from using their territory or facilities to plan, organize, execute or support hostile actions against Iran."

Cuba’s foreign affairs ministry and the NNOC did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.

Late Cuban communist dictator Fidel Castro created ICAP in 1960 to arrange for guests to visit Cuba as friendly indoctrination, according to American intelligence and Cuban state media. America’s pro-Cuba activist movement became one of its tools with the NNOC’s help.

In addition to fringe militia-like groups such as Armed Queers Salt Lake City and the Venceremos Brigade, the NNOC’s member list includes the Democratic Socialists of America and other high-profile American leftist groups.

“The entities and individuals designated today direct or fund the regime and its efforts to mobilize its radical revolutionary movements in the United States and around the world,” Rubio said.

Díaz-Canel called the sanctions “illegitimate” in a Thursday X post, according to a DCNF translation.

“This political blindness is added to the coercive measures applied in recent weeks against our country, designed to harm the Cuban people,” he said, according to the translation.

“The aggressiveness and perversity of the Yankee government will clash with our determination to confront the worst scenarios and resist the imperialist onslaught.”

Yazhong Church -- also known as Yayang Church -- is an unregistered Protestant church located in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, according to a May 20 report from ChinaAid.

Crews with heavy-duty construction vehicles demolished the church building from the top down starting on May 18.

By late morning on May 19, the church's "beautiful and ornate sanctuary" had been "reduced to rubble," ChinaAid reported.

The outlet reported that Yazhong Church has been targeted by the Chinese Communist Party for several months.

Last December -- less than two weeks before Christmas -- authorities arrested 103 church members in pre-dawn raids, as well as seized control of the church building.

Four more church members were arrested as the demolition was occurring. They join the ranks of 18 other congregants who were previously jailed.

A subsequent interview by ChinaAid with an unnamed source -- identified only as "Mr. A" -- revealed a firsthand account of the demolition.

"The atmosphere that day was extremely terrifying. The street was filled with special police and officers," he described.

"Barricades and checkpoints were established one to two kilometers from the site, and only authorized personnel were permitted to be nearby or to take photographs."

Mr. A said that the government used "thermal infrared imaging” to monitor activity within a two-kilometer radius.

"Days before the demolition even began, individuals working with local authorities were stationed in all the nearby high-rise buildings to monitor the area, and residents were forcibly relocated," he recounted.

"In the past few days, heavy construction vehicles have been hauling away the rubble, trying to leave behind no trace at all."

Mr. A said that church members are now afraid to use church WeChat groups -- even hesitating to use emojis -- for fear of being monitored.

The authorities on site detained people who were seen with mobile phones or suspected of taking pictures.

"Under this kind of technologically intensive surveillance, before you even have time to send a photo out, you may already be located through backend monitoring and summoned immediately," Mr. A said.

Open Doors ranks China as 17th on its World Watch List for Christian persecution.

There are nearly 100 million Christians in the country, but the Chinese Communist Party views the faith as "a threat that must be tightly controlled and contained."

Churches are either registered with the state -- meaning they are subjected to strict oversight and forced to align with communist ideology -- or they are unregistered underground churches.

"This is an enormously brave move because it can bring raids, fines, arrests, imprisonments and the confiscation of materials," Open Doors said.

Karen Mulholland, 36, was one of the first to reach Stephen Ogilvie, who was attacked. Hadi Alodid, a Sudanese national living in Belfast, has been charged with multiple crimes in connection with the stabbing.

The attacker exuded a sense of calm and “looked like me cutting up a chicken breast,” Mulholland said, according to the Sun.

“My partner stopped, opened the door, and the black guy turned and pointed the knife at him, and looked him right in the eye, as if ‘You dare. You dare come near me,’” she said.

“‘I saw evil in that guy’s eyes. He was licking his lips with the blood. He was enjoying it,” she said.

“I thought the attacker was going to kill him,” she said.

Mulholland said the attacker tried to fight off anyone helping his victim.

“He was smiling when he was committing the attack and was also trying to bite people who were trying to help the man,” she said.

“My partner was considering knocking him down with the car but he didn’t want to injure the other people who were helping the poor man,” she said.

After the suspect was arrested, she said, “The police had to put a mask on the attacker because he was just going mad.”

The assault was cut short by local resident Matt Tighearnán, who swung a hurley stick [similar to a lacrosse or hockey stick] at the attacker, distracting him.

One witness said that he was passing in a vehicle and wanted to help, according to ITV.

"When I opened the door to get out, he pointed the knife at me while he was on top of the man."

The victim was being treated "like a piece of meat,” he said. "It was like something out of a movie. It was scary."

In another interview, Mulholland told the Sun that she could hear Ogilvie as he was attacked.

“I could hear the screams of that man’s voice saying, ‘What did I do? What did I do? What did I do?” she said.

In short, the president announced a U.S. military operation that had moved "millions of barrels" of oil carried by commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, the crucial waterway of the Persian Gulf.

Trump also made the announcement in a post on the Truth Social social media platform.

"You know, I can say it now, something you didn't know," Trump said in the Oval Office. "Did you know we've been taking out millions of barrels of oil? Nobody knows it. You know who doesn't know about it? Iran, until right now."

Then, Trump added details of the operation.

"We took out, the other night, 22 ships -- late at night with no lights because they don't have any radar because we blasted the crap out of it," the president added. "We took out -- that's why oil's $85 a barrel."

In his Truth Social post, Trump was even more definitive:

"Last month, I directed our Great U.S. Military to execute a secret mission to support Oil Tankers and other Commercial Ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Today, I am pleased to announce that this effort has resulted in more than 100 MILLION Barrels of Oil making its way through the Strait, and into the Open Market," he wrote.

"More than 200 Commercial Ships have safely traveled through the Strait. This wildly successful effort is because the UNITED STATES of AMERICA CONTROLS the Strait of Hormuz — NOT Iran. Their military is defeated, and their economy is lost. It’s over for Iran!"

During the Oval Office meeting, Trump indicated that he had a difficult time suppressing the news.

"But now I'm gonna tell you because they just figured it out," he continued. "So now that they figured it out I can tell you. It was very hard for me. I wanted to say it so badly, but I didn't want to ruin it. But it was very hard. But millions of barrels of oil has come out. And that's why it's at $85-$90 a barrel instead of $250."

The president then shifted gears and began praising the U.S. military.

"We have the greatest military in the world. The toughest military in the world," Trump said. "The best in every way. Nobody even close. There's no military that's even close."

He predicted that when the "conflict" is over, oil prices will fall back to where they were.

So Laura Lee Yourex, 63, registered her dog, Maya Jean, to vote.

She filled out mail-in ballots in Maya's name during the 2021 gubernatorial recall election and again in the 2022 primary, according to KTTV.

She chronicled what she referred to as her "sting operation" on social media, posting photos of Maya wearing an "I Voted" sticker.

Even after Maya died, Yourex noted in a 2024 post that "Maya is still getting her ballot," the news outlet reported.

It wasn't until she turned herself in that authorities investigated. (So no, they didn't "catch" her.)

Authorities said one of the ballots was counted in the California state election, while the other ballot was rejected in the federal primary election -- a 50/50 result of fraud being accepted in one of the two elections!

Orange County prosecutors decided to pursue this case.

They initially charged Yourex with several felonies, including perjury, filing false documents, and voting illegally.

Prosecutors said she could have faced up to six years in prison if convicted on all charges.

The more serious charges were later dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

KTTV reported that Yourex pleaded guilty in April to one misdemeanor count of knowingly registering a nonexistent person to vote. She is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 16 in Orange County Superior Court.

The case drew national attention and sparked debate over election security.

Yourex's attorney, Jaime Coulter, said his client never tried to hide what she did. He likened her actions to political activism, rather than intentional election tampering. He said, “Ms. Yourex never hid from taking personal responsibility, as she self-reported the matter."

Public reaction has shown overwhelming support for Yourex, with one Facebook comment asking, “We punish people who expose fraud? Make it make sense.” Another wrote, “She should receive a medal,” and yet another remarked, “Elections so secure a dog can do it.”

In what appears to be an act of conscientious dissent, Yourex kept the people updated on social media platforms, showing no willful intention to deceive, but demonstrating a public decision to highlight a potential vulnerability in voting protocols.

When there are two elections, and fraud is allowed half of the time, it brings to mind a scene from the movie "Jaws," when Captain Quint says, “It’s not too good, is it, Chief?”

Then came Monday night, when he became the victim of a knife attack by a man identified as Hadi Alodid, a Sudanese national living in Belfast courtesy of the British asylum system.

Ogilvie, who 25 years ago was a crime victim, is disabled and has schizophrenia, according to The Telegraph.

On Monday, Ogilvie left his flat and approached Alodid after seeing Alodid walking back and forth over what the Telegraph called "a considerable time.”

“What are you doing?” Ogilvie asked.

Then came an attack that led to worldwide revulsion after a graphic social media video showed an attacker apparently sawing on the neck of his victim with a knife.

Ogilvie was reported by the Telegraph to be in a coma.

The victim lost his left eye and is in critical condition after suffering stab wounds to his face, neck, and back.

"He's a vulnerable person, apparently. He lives in the same flats as the man who attacked him,” a neighbor told the Daily Mail.

“There's a lot of information swirling around as to what happened. Nobody knows for sure why Stephen was attacked,” the neighbor said.

Alodid entered Northern Ireland from Ireland in February 2023 after arriving in Dublin from Paris.

Alodid claimed asylum once he reached Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom. In September 2023 has was given permission to live in Britain until 2028.

A neighbor said Ogilvie  is “deaf in one ear” and “had a few issues.”

“He lived by himself, but he'd always have people around to stay,” the neighbor said, according to LBC.

The incident triggered an outbreak of violent protests of the U.K.'s lax immigration system. The protests continued Wednesday, despite the tut-tutting of multiple officials in England and Northern Ireland, who condemned "racism," according to the Belfast Telegraph.

A report in the Daily Record noted that this was the second horrific attack suffered by Ogilvie.

In 2001, Ogilvie had left Belfast to live in Scotland, only to be attacked and set on fire by several men who were later jailed for the crime.

At that time, Ogilvie told a court, "I am terrified and my nerves are shattered."

“U.S. Central Command forces began launching additional self-defense strikes today at 5:15 p.m. ET against multiple targets in Iran at the Commander in Chief’s direction,” CENTCOM announced in a post on the social media platform X.

“The strikes are in response to Iran’s unwarranted and continued aggression,” the post said.

Iran reported explosions near the Strait of Hormuz and in western Tehran, according to the Times of Israel.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the United States "will be hitting Iran hard,” according to USA Today.

"Central Command will be busy tonight," he said,

"If we need to negotiate with bombs, we'll negotiate with bombs, and we're very good at it. Nobody better in the world," Hegseth said.

“President Trump said we’ll be hitting Iran hard, and we will be because Iran has a chance to make a good deal,” Hegseth said, according to the Times of Israel. “You can see when someone is trying to tap, tap, tap on a deal. Instead, they’re going to have tap, tap, tap bombs dropping on key facilities in Iran.”

“We don’t have to restart,” Hegseth said, adding that the military was “prepared to set the terms to ensure we get the kind of deal that President Trump expects.”

“Those strikes, that will happen tonight, they will be strong, they will be clear. If they happen tomorrow night, they will be strong, they will be clear, and, throughout, Iran has an opportunity to make a deal — that’s the point,” he said.

Earlier Wednesday, President Donald Trump indicated on Truth Social he was losing patience with Iran, writing, “They’ve taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them, now they will have to pay the price!!!”

Asked later about that post, Trump said, "Well, we're going to be attacking them and attacking them very hard,” according to USA Today.

"We hit them hard yesterday, and we're going to hit them again hard today," Trump said.

"And we'll see what happens with the deal. We were really close to a deal, but they keep tapping us along. They keep playing us for suckers,” he said.

Iran has failed to dent U.S. defenses in its efforts to retaliate, Hegseth said.

"Most of their shots missed and were shot down by us, so their efficacy and their ability to actually strike is incredibly diminished,” he said.

As the military struck Iran, Trump chortled that the Islamic Republic had already been gravely wounded.

“Last month, I directed our Great U.S. Military to execute a secret mission to support Oil Tankers and other Commercial Ships through the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

“Today, I am pleased to announce that this effort has resulted in more than 100 MILLION Barrels of Oil making its way through the Strait, and into the Open Market. More than 200 Commercial Ships have safely traveled through the Strait,” he wrote.

“This wildly successful effort is because the UNITED STATES of AMERICA CONTROLS the Strait of Hormuz — NOT Iran. Their military is defeated, and their economy is lost. It’s over for Iran!” Trump wrote.

In an Instagram video published Monday, Paisley urged fans to sign a petition against proposed construction of a data center near the Nashville Zoo.

"Build 'em somewhere else," he said.

With 24 No. 1 hits to his name, Paisley rates as country music royalty.

Thus, he used his fame to reach his 2 million followers on social media.

"By now you’ve probably heard about the proposed data center that they want to build next to the Nashville Zoo, which is an absolute nightmare scenario," he said at the beginning of the video.

Then, he cited both practical and aesthetic objections.

"First of all, they don’t have the power to build this. They don’t have the water. It doesn’t belong there. It would be an enormous monstrosity, an absolute eyesore, and detract in every way from not only the zoo, but that area. It's not too late to stop it either."

Moreover, he said, the Nashville Zoo -- which has created an online petition to oppose the project -- deserves better.

"The zoo is one of the sources of joy in this city. It is one of the top zoos in the world. It’s family memories. It is expanding itself. It’s got all these plans to become even better as a resource for our city."

Finally, he urged the people of Nashville to take action.

"So let's sign the petition, if you agree, and everybody I've talked to does. Sign the petition. Let's stop it. They don't have to do this here. Build 'em somewhere else. But let’s keep Nashville as beautiful and as great of an attraction it’s always been."

Last month, for instance, residents of Kenilworth, New Jersey, rallied against an AI center under construction there, according to WABC-TV in New York.

In Michigan, residents in the Grand Rapids area are mobilizing against an AI data center Microsoft Corp. is proposing, according to MLive Media Group.

And in Southern California last week, voters in the Los Angeles County city of Monterey Park approved a local measure permanently banning data centers, according to Fox News. The vote came in response to plans by an Australian investment firm to build a facility, Fox reported.

Indeed, as the weather has warmed this spring, the data-center controversy has heated up considerably.  Many of those concerns have focused on the amount of energy the data centers consume.
