Baker Mayfield Trashes His Ex-Coach After Dominant Browns Win
It wasn’t exactly a warm reception that Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield had for his former coach after the two met at midfield after the Browns beat the Bengals on Sunday.
Mayfield was hugging players on the Bengals, but then when former Browns coach Hue Jackson came over to shake his hand, Mayfield was noticeably cool. He shook Jackson’s hand, but when the former coach looked like he was coming in for a hug, Mayfield kept his distance and Jackson just patted him on the head.

Jackson coached Mayfield this year in Cleveland before Jackson, along with offensive coordinator Todd Haley, were fired Oct. 29. Jackson is now a special assistant to Bengals coach Marvin Lewis.
Mayfield, according to reports, didn’t have the greatest relationship with Jackson, although he never said so publicly. So what did Jackson say to Mayfield after his former quarterback lit up the Bengals with four touchdowns?
“He said ‘Good job, good game,'” Mayfield replied. “It was brief … didn’t feel like talking.”
When asked if he didn’t feel like talking or Jackson didn’t feel like talking, Mayfield responded, “Me.”
When asked why, Mayfield said it was nothing personal.
“When he left Cleveland to go down to Cincy, I don’t know, he was just someone that was in our locker room asking for us to play for him and then goes to a different team we play twice a year,” Mayfield explained.
“It’s just like any rivalry game … that’s how I’m going to treat them every time we play them,” Mayfield added. “There’s no hate, that’s just how it is, that’s how I’m going to treat it. And I think that’s how our team should treat it, too.”
The Browns are 2-1 since Jackson was fired with the only loss coming to the Chiefs. Mayfield was asked if Jackson was the reason the team wasn’t winning.
“No, what it comes down to is we still have the same players. That’s what I said when everything was happening — we just had to play better. You can put your own spin on it, but we have the same players — we have people we believe in calling the plays now,” Mayfield said.
The Browns have been averaging 28 points per game since Jackson was fired compared to 21 points per game during his tenure as head coach.

Browns safety Demarious Randall had a gift for his former coach. After an interception Sunday, Randall walked to the Bengals sideline and gave the ball to Jackson.
“It’s just something I always said I was going to do,” Randall said, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “I never gave him one when he was with the Browns, so I felt he needed one.”
The Browns are now 4-6-1 and growing in confidence.
“This locker room is very, very talented,” Randall said. ”This team is very scary right now.”
