Belichick embarrassed Gronk in front of teammates over Tom Brady diet - report
New England Patriots fans have long followed the “In Bill We Trust” mantra, but head coach Bill Belichick sure doesn’t make it easy.
Of course, the five Super Bowls speak for themselves, but it certainly seems like the foundation is continuing to crack, with the future Hall-of-Famer driving wedges between himself and his best players.
Back in January, ESPN‘s Seth Wickersham published an extended feature detailing the tension between Belichick, star quarterback Tom Brady and team owner Robert Kraft.
New England took an “Us Against The World” mentality, and went all the way to the Super Bowl, though they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Now comes another troubling sign, this time regarding the relationship between Belichick and all-world tight end Rob Gronkowski.
The Boston Herald reported that the coach berated Gronkowski in front of the team for following Brady’s “TB12” diet, the guidelines of which originated from Brady’s personal trainer, Alex Guerrero.
In his report, Wickersham said Belichick had banned Guerrero from the sideline, causing tension with his quarterback.
Gronkowski, after undergoing his third back surgery, turned to Guerrero to get into better shape and hopefully extend his career.
Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe pointed out that whatever Gronkowski is doing, it’s working.
“I know he’s been with Tom Brady’s method, and it doesn’t matter if Alex Guerrero doesn’t have an MD from Harvard, or if he’s not medically trained. It doesn’t matter,” Sharpe said of Guerrero. “All that matters is that the guys he’s seeing believe that what he’s teaching them works. And I did see a picture of him, and he does look thinner.”
“Gronk is a large, large man. So him thinner, at 6-6, 6-7, 260 pounds, so be it. But I think Gronk is going to be every bit as effective as he’s always been as long as he has Brady throwing to him. He’ll be just fine,” Sharpe added.
After the Super Bowl loss to the Eagles, Gronkowski openly wondered about his football future.
Based on video from a dance-off with Shaquille O’Neal last month, though, his body is feeling just fine.

Moreover, ESPN reported that Gronkowski is leaning toward coming back for another season.
This comes despite the fact that the 28-year-old is vastly underpaid, as he is slated to earn just $9 million next season.
Arguably the three most important parts of the Patriots’ recent success have been Brady, Belichick and Gronkowski. All three are likely headed to the Pro Football Hall Of Fame.
But now the question is, can the coach get along with his players? Patriots fans are eager to find out.
