Peak Leftism: After Move to Ban Bibles, CA Dems Push Bill to Let Illegals Hold Office

Share

We recently shared with readers an overly broad piece of proposed legislation in California which would ban efforts to change an individual’s sexual orientation that was written in such a way as to be interpreted as opening the door to banning the sale of the Bible in the ultra-liberal state.

That followed a widely shared article among the left which proclaimed California’s version of progressivism as a political model for the rest of the country — once those pesky conservatives were banished to the political wilderness for a couple generations.

Now Breitbart has shared the latest example of peak leftism in California, as a Democrat state senator has proposed legislation that would allow illegal aliens to be appointed to and hold certain state offices.

That would be Senate Bill 174, a formerly unrelated measure that was gutted and rewritten by Sen. Ricardo Lara to amend an existing law which dates back to 1872 and would clear the way for any resident over the age of 18 — regardless of their citizenship or immigration status — to serve on any state or local board or commission, according to The Sacramento Bee.

“California is stronger when we utilize talents of all our residents, and opening state and local boards and commissions to every Californian will allow us to better serve our diverse communities,” Lara said.

“Undocumented Californians are our neighbors, co-workers and parents, and as lawmakers we can’t make good policy if their voices are left out of the discussion,” he added.

State law currently says that appointees to boards and commissions must be citizens at the time of their appointment, though Senate Pro Tem Kevin de Leon recently ignored that provision when he authorized the appointment of an illegal immigrant activist, Lizbeth Mateo, to a committee that oversees student opportunity and grants for higher education.

It is noteworthy that if Lara’s bill is passed, California will have to figure out how to get around federal laws which prohibit illegal immigrants from holding salaried positions without first being granted federal work authorization. Of course, the state could simply ignore those laws as it so blatantly ignores other immigration laws.

It is insane to think that Lara’s bill would open state and local offices supposedly reserved for citizens, or at least legal residents, for illegal aliens who may or may not have assimilated with the American culture that graciously hosts them.

Should state political offices be reserved for American citizens?

Aside from undermining the basic premise of law and order in this country, it would also undermine the very essence of America in that we all come together from disparate backgrounds as part of one overarching and blended culture, an ideal many illegal immigrants and the progressives who advocate on their behalf obviously hold in utter contempt.

This isn’t the first time Lara has displayed his anti-American leftism via legislation, as Breitbart noted he proposed in 2017 a single-payer, state-run medical system for California — though he never got around to figuring out how to pay for it — which he also planned to open for full access to illegal immigrants.

On top of that, Lara proposed legislation that would effectively implement state-based discrimination and a lifetime ban against any contractors who worked on the construction of President Donald Trump’s border wall within the state of California.

As if that wasn’t enough, he also played a role in the sanctuary state legislation which expressly prohibits local governments and law enforcement agencies within the state from cooperating with federal immigration authorities seeking to detain criminal illegal immigrants.

If this is the sort of example of California progressive leftism that the rest of the country is supposed to willingly adopt, count us as issuing a hard pass on this one.

We are all for legal immigrants being appointed or elected to various local and state offices, which has long been a tradition in this country. Where we draw the line is opening up such opportunities for people who reside in the country illegally and aren’t even supposed to be here, much less hold positions of authority and power.

California has fully embraced their ludicrous leftism, and the rest of America that still grants priority to actual Americans over foreigners in the country illegally want no part in this anti-American insanity.
