Obama Loophole May Have Given Cali Too Many Congressmen

Share

The Trump administration may have just found a novel way to knock liberals in California down a notch: Actually count citizens.

In the state with the most illegal immigration, Democrats are scrambling to block a proposal to use the U.S. Census to verify the number of actual citizens who reside in California.

The measure will likely mean that the left-leaning state will lose at least one seat in Congress… and it would also mean that they’ve been over-represented in Washington for years.

Every ten years, the U.S. Census determines how many people live in each state. Under the law, 435 representatives are split between the states, with the exact number in each area being decided by the census.

But there’s a problem: After decades of using a “long form” census questionnaire, Democrat President Barack Obama switched to one that doesn’t actually ask questions about citizenship.

That means that in illegal immigrant havens like California, the tally almost certainly includes an inflated number by counting people who are not legal citizens — but Trump’s Department of Justice is changing that.

“The Justice Department complained that the 2010 Census Bureau’s ACS voting-age data, which did not ask the citizenship question of every interviewee, was then used for the first time to set election redistricting for federal, state and local jurisdictions,” explained Breitbart News.

“To fully enforce those requirements, the Department needs a reliable calculation of the citizen voting-age population in localities where voting rights violations are alleged or suspected,” confirmed Arthur E. Gary, general counsel for the Justice Department.

It seems like a simple concept: Representatives are determined by citizen population. Only citizens are allowed to vote. Yet Democrats all but admit that they were using a scheme that gave them an advantage in Congress by improperly including non-citizen immigrants.

Should the U.S. Census ask about citizenship?

Incredibly, Democrats are now whining that the government wants to make sure that citizens are correctly counted.

“The citizenship question is just the latest red flag — maybe one of the biggest — but just the latest red flag,” California Secretary of State Alex Padilla complained to Politico.

Yes, one of the top Democrats in California thinks it’s wrong to ask who is a citizen and who is not, in order to make sure people are fairly represented in Congress. Let that sink in for a moment.

What, exactly, is the point of a census that doesn’t accurately count citizens?

“Democrats understand that the revised 2010 U.S. Census questionnaire, which did not ask about interviewee’s citizenship under the penalty of perjury, encouraged many of California’s approximately 2.35 million illegal aliens and 1.65 million legal aliens to participate improperly in the U.S. Census,” Breitbart reported.

The hand-wringing over properly counting citizens comes not long after a leaked memo confirmed what conservatives have long suspected: Liberals are purposely encouraging illegal immigration and viewing amnesty as a way boost Democrat voter rolls.

“The fight to protect Dreamers [….] is also a critical component of the Democratic Party’s future electoral success,” the Center for American Progress Action Fund declared in a memo which we reported about last week.

“If Democrats don’t try to do everything in their power to defend Dreamers, that will jeopardize Democrats’ electoral chances in 2018 and beyond,” the memo admitted.

In other words, Democrats are counting on illegal aliens as a source of votes. That admission is particularly troubling in light of the fact that a Democrat president purposely changed the census to stop asking about citizenship, giving a Democrat state more representation than is warranted. Suspicious yet?

It’s about time that this scheme was exposed. California’s uncontrolled immigration is already ruining the state… and America needs to step in before it impacts the nation, as well.
