Cat Uses All 9 Lives Surviving 9 Days Stuck in Grille of Car

Share

The farm that served as my childhood home may not have enjoyed many modern luxuries such as cable television or easy access to groceries. But we did have an excess of one thing: cats.

See, kitties served a very practical purpose. They were inexpensive pest control — and entertaining, too.

One of the farmhands told me a story of how a horse had accidentally stepped on a snoozing cat while he watched, squishing the feline flat against the concrete. Much to the man’s surprise, the feline simply ran off once the horse moved and seemed none the worse for wear in the following days.

Given such stories, it’s no wonder that superstition tells us that cats have nine lives. The hardy little animals seem able to survive all sorts of indignities.

According to the Daily Mail, a tortoiseshell cat named Chloe survived getting stuck in a chimney for a daunting six weeks. Marianne and Patrick Wood of Stoborough, England, had left on vacation around Christmas time in 2014.

Though they’d arranged for neighbors to care for Chloe, the kitty had run off and (unbeknownst to her caretakers) tried to get back inside the Woods’ house. That attempt ended up trapping her in said chimney.

The Woods only learned about their cat’s fate when they returned home and heard a piteous mewing echoing from the walls. A veterinarian said that Chloe had lost half her body weight.

Forty-nine-year-old Sharon Stirling from Kilmarnock, Scotland, definitely didn’t want her kitty to disappear. When her black-and-white cat Jacob vanished, she couldn’t figure out where the notorious homebody went.

“I got up for work around 6 a.m. and couldn’t find Jacob, which was unusual because he never normally leaves for long,” she told The Scottish Sun. “I went home from work around 10am to check if he was back but he still wasn’t there.”

About the same time, Stirling’s father drove to Girvan, an 80-mile round trip from her home. Stirling was in the process of putting up missing posters when her dad called.

“It wasn’t until he came out of Asda [a supermarket] in Girvan … that he saw something in the grill, he thought it was a seagull at first but then heard a meowing noise,” Stirling said. “He kept hearing it when he was loading the shopping into the car, so he got down and looked under the car and he could see a cats eye’s shining.”

That cat was Jacob. He’d survived being stuck in the car’s grill for nine days.

The best part of the story? Despite the trauma of the whole ordeal, Jacob’s only injury was a bruised nose.
