CNN political reporter Daniella Diaz made an off-color remark Monday about Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell holding President Donald Trump’s hand following the end of a news conference.
The comment, which was posted to Diaz’s Twitter account, came after Trump and McConnell had spoken to reporters in the Rose Garden about their upcoming plans for tax and health care reform.
Diaz seemed to be mocking McConnell’s attempt to regain his balance while walking up the stairs.
Twitter users responding to Diaz were quick to point out that McConnell is a polio survivor and often needs such assistance.

CNN senior congressional correspondent Manu Raju tried to explain the situation to his colleague.
“McConnell is a polio survivor, a reason why stairs can be tricky at times,” Raju tweeted. “McConnell often goes up a step at a time, sometimes needs railing for assistance. This time, used Trump for balance.”
Many Twitter users criticized Diaz’s tweet, suggesting CNN was lacking journalistic professionalism.
As reported by Fox News, Daily Beast senior editor had also wondered why McConnell user Trump for balance, and he received similar corrections from Twitter users.
Kirell later deleted the tweet.
In 1990, when McConnell was running for re-election in Kentucky, he explained his medical situation in a campaign ad: “When I was a child and my dad was in World War II, I got polio. I recovered, but my family almost went broke.”
