College Students Raise Over $400K To Share the Gospel with Those Who Don't Have Access to It

While some young people gathered for football games and holiday celebrations, almost 40,000 college students gathered for something very different and very special. Fox News reports the Passion 2019 conference had a new twist this year that will benefit deaf individuals around the globe.

Global ambassador for Passion conferences Brad Jones explained what the annual conference is all about. “Passion is more than an event; we exist to see this generation live for what matters most—for us, that’s the fame of Jesus.”

But Passion students do more than go to the conference. They also raise funds.

In prior years the students raised $8.3 million to help fight modern day slavery. This year they added another cause to the list.

On Facebook, the group announced the amazing thing they had achieved. They were able to raise $448,370.41 “to help bring the story of Jesus to the 70 million deaf people around the globe.”

They took on this project because “Many in this community cannot read and have no access to God’s Word.” Fox News reported that the funds will go to the Deaf Bible Society.

The money will be used for the Hope in Every Language campaign. This campaign helps with the funding and distribution of “the stories of Jesus into the unique sign language to areas that haven’t been reached.”

Countries that will benefit include Cuba, Columbia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Moldova, Myanmar, the Philippines, Russia, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Thailand.

How much of an impact will this campaign have? According to the Deaf Bible Society, 70 million people around the globe have sign language as “the first or only language they know and use daily.”

The Passion 2019 website elaborates further on what exactly Passion is all about, and it is more than an annual conference and serving others through fundraising.

“Passion exists to see a generation leverage their lives for what matters most … to live in such a way that their journey on earth counts for what is most important in the end.”

“For us at Passion, that’s the fame of the One who rescues and restores, and the privilege we have to amplify His name in everything we do. While we host large gatherings, Passion is more than a conference.”

“More than an event. More than a feeling.”

“Passion is you and me saying goodbye to lesser things and saying yes to Jesus, the One whose name is above every name.”

These young people have chosen a different path, spending their time doing something positive for themselves and for others.

The focus on Jesus may not please everyone. But no one can deny that helping young adults to commit to living a better life and find ways to serve others is a good thing that we need to see more of.
