Cruz got game: Video surfaces of Ted Cruz's impressive workout in preparation for Kimmel showdown
When one thinks of Sen. Ted Cruz, one generally doesn’t picture a guy with a decent midrange jumper.
But some video has emerged of the Texas Republican working out for his one-on-one showdown with ABC late night host Jimmy Kimmel, and he’s not half bad.

The video, posted Friday, shows Cruz practicing with former University of Houston basketball player L.J. Rose.
Rose now plays for the Salt Lake City Stars in the NBA’s G-League.

Rose wasn’t exactly exerting himself in covering Cruz as the senator blew by him for a layup.
But then on the next possession, the 47-year-old senator nailed a jumper from the side of the key and looked pretty good doing it.
Nice form.
Rose tweeted that Cruz “looks ready to me … what y’all think.”

Cruz and Kimmel will play one-on-one Saturday night at Texas Southern University in Houston. Proceeds from the charity event will go to Texas Children’s Hospital and Generation One, which helps fund education needs for students in need. The beef between Cruz and Kimmel started after Game 7 of the Rockets-Warriors series in the Western Conference Finals, which the Warriors won. Cruz was in attendance and posted a picture of himself courtside.
The next night on his show, Kimmel, 50, said Cruz looked like a blobfish.
I’m hopeful that the day will end with @JimmyKimmel writing a check and making a difference in some kids’ lives: https://t.co/qAMDYbHEGI #KimmelvsCruz

Cruz got wind of it and responded to Kimmel by challenging him to a game of one-on-one for charity.
