Share

Officials in Florence, Alabama, tried to take quick action to paint over an offensive mural of President Donald Trump.

The mural, which was painted on the wall of a vacant lot, depicted Trump shooting at school children. The children were depicted as having been wounded and bleeding.

Meanwhile, Trump is depicted as yelling something about money as he’s doing the shooting.

The mural the pro-gun control #NeverAgain hashtag.

Sarah Shirey, who owns a coffee shop across the street from the anti-Trump artwork, told WHNT-TV she first noticed the artwork Monday morning.

“My husband and I were looking at it, trying to figure it out, and then we realized all of the red coming out of the bodies was blood; and then I was assuming it was a school shooting,” stated Shirey.

“It’s not something that we want to have to see every day,” Shirey added.

Shirey said while she respects the right of free speech, the artist defaced private property.

Did this graffiti artist cross the line by including children in his artwork?

“They are obviously trying to send a message about what they believe, and I guess people have that freedom here,” Shirey said. “But that is a private piece of property and so they can’t really do it there. Which we really don’t appreciate it there.”

Not surprisingly, some Trump opponents were all in favor of the mural and its disturbing images.

The city’s mayor, Steve Holt, told WAAY-TV he thought the mural “was disgusting.” He also said the mural has no businesses being in his city.

Holt said the people who own the property told his office they did not give anyone permission to paint a mural. The property owners told the city it could paint over it.

The mural was created sometime Sunday night or Monday morning and painted over by Tuesday morning.
