War Munitions, C4 Found Stashed in US Backcountry
It’s no secret that preppers and extreme anti-government radicals often stash weaponry or explosives.
What may be less known are weapons stashes belonging to the former Soviet Union, placed throughout the United States to sow chaos and destruction when the time is right. These supposedly contain Russian military-grade hardware including rocket propelled grenades and fully-automatic rifles.
And now, as ABC 15 Arizona reports, a cache of military-grade explosives, detonation equipment, and perimeter mines has been found in the wilderness of the American Southwest.
Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms are scrambling to figure out who they belong to.
The cache contained 80 bricks of C4 and nine M18 Claymore mines. These are both extremely dangerous and deadly, especially in the hands of trained professionals.
C4 is a plastic explosive used by the United States military. In small quantities, it can be used to breach doorways or walls, disable equipment, and even raze small buildings and homes. In larger quantities, it can be used to destroy dug-in fighting positions and bunkers.

Claymores are even nastier. Metal balls are packed tightly into the front, with an explosive behind propelling them forward in a deadly arc. Anything caught in the kill zone is almost guaranteed to be dead.
While technically a land mine, these explosives have to be manned by an actual operator as they are fired by a trigger mechanism. Those familiar with the Claymore operation and mechanics can rig it to a tripwire, however.
While the ATF says the weapons are “clearly stolen,” they are working closely with the military to figure out exactly where they came from. There is no evidence pointing to any group as being responsible yet.
The ATF is also offering a $10,000 reward to anyone with information about the explosives cache.
