Yet Another Migrant Caravan Is Headed to US As Trump Reiterates Need for Border Wall

Share

While the Democrats are busy making excuses for not funding the border wall and the establishment media is busy pushing an anti-Trump narrative, another reason for getting the wall done now has presented itself.

When it was politically expedient, the migrant caravans were a talking point of the left and frequently referred to as a “crisis.” Now that a new one is preparing to head for the U.S. border, it is no longer a talking point.

That is because it supports President Donald Trump’s position of needing to secure the border for the sake of Americans and those foreign nationals being lured into making the dangerous journey here.

According to The Washington Post (behind a paywall), the new caravan has been organized, using a flyer in order to recruit new “refugees” to join.

They will be heading north next week in order to “test the immigration policies of Mexico and the United States.” The new caravan will be leaving San Pedro Sula, Honduras at 5 a.m., according to the flyer.

Mexico is already taking action in preparation, although they won’t be stopping all of them from entering. Interior minister Olga Sánchez Cordero said, “We are already taking the necessary steps to ensure the caravan enters in a safe and orderly way.”

She also explained that 370 illegal entry points will now have guards. And while legal entry will be allowed with the application for visas, the Mexican border will be “controlled to prevent the entry of undocumented people.”

Do you believe better security along the U.S. border will help save both American and foreign lives?

This action may help reduce the caravan number and stem the tide expected to hit the U.S. border. This shows more willingness to work with President Trump than the Democrats have shown.

Trump has reiterated his point, and used the impending caravan to help solidify it. “There is another major caravan forming right now in Honduras, and so far we’re trying to break it up, and so far it’s bigger than anything we’ve ever seen, and a drone isn’t going to stop it, and a sensor isn’t going to stop it, but you know what’s going to stop it in its tracks? A nice, powerful wall.”

Some members of the previous caravans were arrested and deported, both in Mexico and the United States. Some had managed to illegally enter but were later apprehended. Examples of who is crossing our border illegally include a convicted murderer and a member of MS-13.

The Washington Post notes that despite the fact that many of the prior caravan members ended up waiting in Mexico, that is not how the caravan is perceived in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador. In those countries, the people believe that the caravan made it through.

Even worse, the caravan is being promoted as a safe way to travel to the United States. Executive director of the National Forum for Migration in Honduras, Karen Valladares, said, “Every day, people leave, but this way they feel more secure. There is more solidarity in going with groups. They don’t have the fear that they are going to be the victims of organized crime.”

Yet, we know that two children have died after making the trek. This was despite border patrol’s best efforts to help them.

We know that among the caravans’ members there have been a number of identified criminals. This is not safe for the other members of the caravans.

When foreigners are encouraged to attempt illegal entry into the United States it creates a dangerous situation for them in a number of ways. A border wall and enhanced security along the border would help reduce the incentive, thus saving lives.
