In Hollywood, it is generally pretty easy to determine who the hero is in a particular incident, but the same cannot always be said for reality.
In real life, heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and heroic actions often come from individuals who have been overlooked or would not normally be expected to step up and take action.
Case in point was the action taken by what was reported to be a 12-year-old boy in a jewelry shop in Istanbul, Turkey, during an armed robbery.
Surveillance camera footage showed a man walking into the store wearing a mask and carrying a small bag, no doubt intent on clearing out the store of whatever valuables he could get his hands on.
Once inside the store, the robber walked right past the small boy and proceeded to pull a handgun out of his waistband.
Seemingly acting instinctively, the young boy immediately swept the gunman’s firearm up and away from both himself and the store owner, simultaneously landing a punch in the robber’s chest.
While the robber momentarily spun around to deal with the child and break free of his grasp, the man behind the counter rushed forward and grappled with the robber, pushing him out the door of the store with help from the boy.
The man and the boy then apparently leaned on the closed door, preventing the robber from re-entering to continue his attempted robbery, leaving him only the option of taking off running down the street, away from the scene of his failed heist.
The instinctive manner in which this boy reacted to the presentation of the armed robber’s gun is something that anyone can admire, and showed that heroes really do come in all shapes and sizes.
