It is an undeniable fact that many individuals of the criminal persuasion are not exactly the brightest bulbs, and their own stupidity can at times bring their criminal careers, if not their actual lives, to sudden ends.
Such was the case for a bank robber in Ohio, who despite clearly staking out and carefully timing his planned heist of the Fifth Third Bank in Madisonville last week, nevertheless made two critical mistakes in pulling off the attempted robbery, according to Cincinnati.com.
Though 20-year-old Terry Frost III seemed to know exactly when the bank tellers would have roughly $90,000 in cash for the ATMs sitting briefly on the counter, he apparently overlooked the armed, off-duty police officer moonlighting as a bank guard, or the condition of his own firearm, hidden inside a grocery bag, that he would use to threaten bank employees, according to The Daily Caller.
Surveillance video showed a masked and hoodie-wearing Frost enter the bank on Wednesday, vault the counter, and demand the large amount of cash be given to him.
Unfortunately for him, he was immediately confronted by Officer Kevin Hankerson, and both men pointed their handguns at each other, pulling the triggers. Again, unfortunately for Frost, his gun went click while Hankerson’s gun went bang.
Taking a shot to the chest, Frost vaulted back over the counter and made his escape from the bank, running toward a nearby wooded area where his body was later found by police.
Investigators discovered that the would-be bank robber had loaded his small .38 caliber Derringer two-shot pistol with the wrong ammunition, as there was evidence that the firing pin had struck, but not set off, the .380 ammo loaded in the weapon.
Hankerson, for his part, will not be charged with any sort of crime, as Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Deters said his actions were justified and that the incident “was as clean a police-involved shooting as I’ve ever seen.”
This thug thought he could rush into a bank and steal $90,000 cash off of the counter, but he made a couple of key mistakes. Luckily the only life ended because of them was his own.
