Ben Shapiro Digs Up Ocasio-Cortez Tweet That Exposes Her Hypocrisy - 'Unacceptable'

Share

So, in case you were busy last week and weren’t paying attention to the political Twittersphere, challenging someone to a debate is now “catcalling.”

Let me back up and explain the full context here. Early in the week, the Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro invited the gaffe-prone, recently appointed face of the new democratic socialists in the Democrat Party to a battle of wits, to which she would presumably be coming unarmed.

“I really just wanted to make a direct appeal to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the future of the Democratic Party, according to Tom Perez, head of the DNC,” Shapiro said in a video.

“Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, I’m excited that you’ve been elevated to that position, and I’d really love to have a conversation with you about the issues.”

Of course, given that Ocasio-Cortez’s long trip down the lane of viral infamy began the first time she was exposed to an interviewer who didn’t view her ascension with uncritical joy, an encounter with Mr. Shapiro would almost certainly be a dumpster fire for Democrats.

So, she declined in the most reasonable way possible: She implied Shapiro was a lecherous misogynist.

Okay then. I’m curious where the entitlement comes in here. Incidentally, if this is the tack she takes with opinion journalists, she’s going to have a rough time in Washington once the new-car smell dissipates.

Now, I don’t think most people would watch this video and come to the conclusion that Shapiro felt entitled to a debate. When it comes to discourse-based entitlement, however, it didn’t take long for the internet to drag up a certain political figure who did feel absolutely entitled to a debate involving Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

At least by the standards that Ocasio-Cortez has set out, her decision to stalk Rep. Joe Crowley for a debate during the primary season and then post it on social media is female-on-male sexual harassment of a sort. It’s like that sort-of-bad Michael Crichton novel they turned into a really bad Michael Douglas/Demi Moore film. Except I think Demi Moore probably knows something about Israel.

Do you think Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez should debate Ben Shapiro?

This, by the way, wasn’t some long-buried tweet that just re-emerged like so many other Twitter scandals we’ve seen in the summer of 2018. This is from May. As in, this May. As she attempted to deliver a sick burn to Ben Shapiro in 280 characters or less, Ocasio-Cortez couldn’t even recall that, even if she were to ascribe the lowest of motives to Shapiro, his delivery was less intrusive than what she had done to Crowley just months before.

She didn’t even make the challenge in a social media video: She showed up at Crowley’s office demanding that she be granted a debate, something that’s highly unusual in a primary featuring an incumbent (and relatively powerful) representative.

And so who publicized this tweet? Well, probably who you might imagine:

#YesAllPundits.

Of course, Ocasio-Cortez wasn’t too busy responding to that on Twitter Friday. Instead, she was saying anyone who calls attention to her gaffes is now sexist — the context and purpose of which can be easily grasped by most, I imagine.

Sure, the only thing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has ever messed up on is a “small slip on a budgetary figure.”

If you think otherwise, you’d better check that male privilege. You’d better check it good.
