Bernie Sanders Gets Shredded for Lame Answer to 'What's Your Favorite Book?' Question

Share

Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont probably thought his Reddit “Ask Me Anything” would go smoothly, but users slammed him for shameless self-promotion over his response when asked about his favorite book.

Sanders fielded questions from the Reddit users in his “AMA” on Friday.

“I’m on @reddit_AMA right now answering your questions about the election on Tuesday – the most important election of our lives. AMA!” Sanders tweeted before taking questions.

Most of his answers were well-received, but users were not happy with one particular response.

“What’s your favourite book?” one person asked.

Sanders replied with a long-winded description of his own forthcoming screed, “Where We Go from Here: Two Years in the Resistance.”

“My favorite book at the moment is a brand new book that I wrote that will be coming out in a couple weeks,” Sanders wrote before droning on about “progressives” and “Trump’s reactionary agenda.”

Will this hurt Bernie's book sales?

This was supposed to be a softball question in front of an easy audience, but rather than giving an answer that might provide insight into his influences or favorite authors, Sanders couldn’t help but try to sell copies of his book.

Sanders’ reply received nearly 4,000 downvotes, making it the most downvoted comment Friday on Reddit.

Users instantly recognize the hypocrisy of the “democratic socialist” shamelessly promoting his product.

“Like a true capitalist…” one person wrote.

“They all come around to the warm embrace of capitalism sooner or later,” said another.

Supporters of Sanders even criticized him for the answer.

“I love Bernie, but this was some serious pandering,” one person said.

“I’ve been passionately following Bernie since 2015 and this is the first time I went ‘BOOOOOOOO’ when reading something ‘he’ wrote. This is stupid and you should rectify it immediately,” another Sanders supporter wrote.

This is a good example of the old saying “you reap what you sow.” Sanders has amassed a following of people who vote to get free things. A bunch of aspiring freeloaders don’t want to be told to purchase a book.

Sanders could have appeased his far-left fans by just naming “The Communist Manifesto” instead. What a missed opportunity.
