Bill Maher Defends Ingraham, Criticizes David Hogg in Surprise Segment
Bill Maher is at it again. No, not uttering the “n-word” on television — this time he’s mired in controversy for being the only liberal bold enough to stand up for Laura Ingraham.
During a recent episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the edgy host addressed the left’s recent boycott of the conservative Ingraham, who was forced to apologize for a fairly innocent criticism of gun control advocate David Hogg.
“I want to defend Laura Ingraham,” Maher began.
To a largely hostile audience, the talk show host admitted that he wasn’t a fan of Ingraham, but that liberals trying to destroy her career over one mild tweet was ridiculous.
“If you’re going to be out there in the arena, and make yourselves the champions of this cause, people are going to have the right, I think, to argue back,” he declared about David Hogg.
Hogg, who has smeared every NRA member as a child murderer with “blood splattered all over their faces,” demanded that sponsors abandon Ingraham’s show after she criticized Hogg for “whining” about being unable to get into colleges.
“Maybe you shouldn’t say that about a 17-year-old, but again, he’s in the arena,” Maher pointed out. “And then he calls for a boycott of her sponsors.”
At the mention of the boycott, some members of the “Real Time” audience started clapping. An incredulous Maher turned to them.
“Really? Is that American?” he asked. “(Hogg) complains about bullying? That’s bullying! I have been the victim of a boycott… I lost a job once. It is wrong.”
Two of Maher’s panelists, including disgraced New York governor and noted whore-monger Eliot Spitzer, disagreed with the host. They insisted that boycotts were protected by free speech.
Maher conceded that a boycott of Ingraham was allowed, but stood firm in calling it wrong — especially when the conservative being targeted hadn’t said anything particularly outrageous.
“You shouldn’t do this by team, you should do it by principle,” Maher insisted. “And of all the things Laura Ingraham has said over the years this was the thing that broke the camel’s back?”
“Effectively, it is the modern way of cutting off free speech. It’s a very chilling atmosphere when this happens,” he concluded.
Maher, once again, is right. He may be no ally of conservatives, but the host seems to have a strong distaste for hand-wringing and hysteria, which is happening right now thanks to Hogg and his torch-carrying mob.
Maher’s final point is particularly important: Perpetually-offended liberals may not be sending uniformed goons to enforce speech and act as thought police, but they’re doing essentially the same thing though social media censorship and with hordes of followers who tar and feather anyone who speaks their mind.
Social blacklisting is the new form of speech enforcement. We’re seeing that on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube… and it’s only going to get worse until people like Maher call this out as the modern ideologic bullying that it is.
