When Kid Rock announced that he was considering running for United States Senate in the upcoming 2018 election, many people, particularly liberals, thought he was crazy.
However, recent polls showed that the popular musician — whose real name is Robert Ritchie — actually has a chance to win the Michigan seat if he does, in fact, run as a Republican.
In fact, one leading poll showed the performer not only utterly dominating a potential Republican primary field, but also close to a tie with incumbent Democrat Sen. Debbie Stabenow, trailing her in a hypothetical general election matchup by 41.17 percent to 43.37 percent .

The survey was conducted by the Trafalgar Group — the same polling firm that predicted President Donald Trump’s upset victory in Michigan in 2016, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The polling group’s senior strategist, Robert Cahaly, indicated that if Kid Rock followed through with his plans to run as a Republican, he would almost certainly win the nomination.
Another survey, conducted by Target-Insyght, echoed those sentiments with polling results that had Kid Rock leading the next-closest candidate in the GOP primary field by 17 percent, the L.A. Times reported.

And yet another poll of the Wolverine State this week showed that most voters are undecided, but that Kid Rock would stomp Stabenow among the voters who already know their preference.
The country/rock singer announced he was considering a run for Senate on July 12, which was followed up a few days later with a tweet saying: “I believe if you work your butt off and pay taxes, you should be able to easily navigate the laws, tax codes, health care and anything else the government puts in place that affects us all.”
However, it is unclear whether he is actually going to go through with the campaign, as he had not filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission, which is required within 15 days of spending or receiving more than $5,000 in support of a campaign, according to the L.A. Times.
One thing’s for sure: If Kid Rock — a staunch supporter of Trump — does decide to legitimately run, it won’t be as easy to beat him as Democrats likely assume. It wasn’t that long ago that another outsider from the entertainment world came in and shook things up in Michigan. It can happen again.
