Border Patrol Nabs 3 Convicted Sex Offenders in a Matter of Days
The past week has meant bad news for sex offenders who enter the United States illegally, but very good news for the American people.
Over the last several days, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials announced that they have nabbed not one but three border crossers who committed sex crimes in multiple states.
The first of those arrests happened in Arizona, according to CBP.
“Tuesday evening, Casa Grande Station agents encountered and arrested 34-year-old Mario Bergochea-Ayala, from Mexico, after he illegally entered the U.S. east of Lukeville,” the agency stated in a news release.
“During processing, agents discovered he was convicted in 2005 of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor in Downey, California. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison.”
But that lawbreaker wasn’t alone. The very next day, another illegal alien-turned-sex-offender was also caught in Arizona.
“On Wednesday morning, agents from the Nogales Station arrested another Mexican national, 37-year-old Roberto Quezada-Meza, near Amado,” CBP reported.
“Agents learned he was convicted in 2002 of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under the age of 14 in Madera, California, and was sentenced to 180 days in jail for his crime.”
It seems time behind bars isn’t particularly effective at sending the message that these criminals aren’t welcome.
Stopping two known sex offenders is a pretty good job, but Border Patrol wasn’t done.
In Texas, yet another convicted offender was caught trying to enter the U.S. at around the same time.
“Thursday, agents assigned to the Rio Grande Valley Special Operations Detachment, along with the Hidalgo County Constables Office Precinct 4, identified a stash house operating out of a residence in San Juan, Texas,” the agency reported.
“Inside the house, agents and officers discovered nine illegal aliens from the countries of Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.”
The backgrounds of those detained aliens were checked — and one of them turned out to be a prior rapist.
“During processing, record checks for a Guatemalan male revealed a previous arrest and conviction in Kansas City, Missouri, for Statutory Rape,” the agency stated.
These arrests, which occurred over just a matter of days, highlight the importance of a strong Border Patrol that has the funding and personnel it needs … along with an administration that takes border security seriously.
At the same time, catching these sexual criminals shows once again that not all border crossers are innocent people seeking better lives, despite the narrative coming from the left.
Many on the right, including President Donald Trump, have been criticized for raising red flags about who is entering the United States, but reality has once again given weight to their concerns.
It may be uncomfortable to acknowledge, but the truth is that there are rapists, murderers, and other bad apples who take advantage of the southern porous border.
That certainly doesn’t mean that all illegal immigrants are hardened criminals — far from it — but it does mean that we should work to stop the ones who are.
