Border Patrol Union Warns Democrats of the Unintended Consequences of No Wall

Share

The day after he appeared with President Donald Trump to address the border security issue, Hector Garza, National Border Patrol Council vice president at-large Hector Garza appeared on Fox News to also address the issue.

Toward the end of the interview, he hit Democrats who have blamed President Donald Trump and the border patrol for the recent deaths of two children.

Garza made it clear that Democrats are hurting the very people they claim to want to help.

“Some of the Democrats are quick to judge our Border Patrol agents and what our agents did out there. It’s no secret our agents rescue a lot of people on a regular basis,” he said.

Check out his Fox News appearance here:

“They’ve been recognized by a lot of members of Congress. Now they were saying that some of these kids need medical checkups, that they needed all these types of services.

“Well, fund border security. Give us the money so we can do our job.

“Pay us. Give us our paychecks.

“Give us the proper money so we that can have the resources so we can train Border Patrol agents as paramedics. As it is, we have a lot of agents that are certified as paramedics so that we can provide that medical attention to those people that come into our custody.

“But again, they’re quick to criticize, but give us the funding. Fund the border security. Fund the border wall.”

Without a wall, those migrants Democrats claim to care so much about are in danger: first because they are tempted to try to cross illegally in the first place, and second because a strapped Border Patrol is almost certain to have problems caring for all those who are apprehended.

Prior to the 2018 midterm elections, Democrats attacked the Border Patrol and used a lot of “kids in cages” talking points to do so. They decried family separations at the border and preached on the importance of taking care of migrants and their children.

Why aren’t they now putting money where their mouth is to end the shutdown so Border Patrol can better able help those same people?

Not only does the wall help deter illegal entry, but it makes it easier for agents who can then focus on other aspects of their job, such as giving aid to those who come here anyway, and are in need of medical assistance.

Does the Border Patrol Council vice president make a good point?

The Washington Examiner reported Friday that recently “a record-high number of Central Americans are migrating to the U.S. and trying to illegally enter at remote parts of the U.S.-Mexico border.”

This makes wall funding and the end to the government shutdown all the more critical.

And if that isn’t reason enough, consider that the Examiner \also reported that just in the final week of the year, hundreds of migrants had to be referred out to medical professionals. In addition, “More than 250 migrant children of 451 who were taken into custody over a nine-day period” were referred out for medical care.

How can Border Patrol agents do the very thing the Democrats claim is needed when the Democrats are holding up the process that allows them to do that?

As President Donald Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani would say, it is time to “put up or shut up.”

It is time to end the partisan politics and focus on policy.

It is time to secure the border and allow the actual border experts to do their job.
