British Doctors Trying To Kill Hospitalized 5-Year-Old To Save 'Resources,' According to Child's Mom
Stories like this one are becoming far too common in Europe.
An attorney named Shelina Begum is fighting the British National Health Service for the right to do anything she can to save her 5-year-old daughter’s life, according to Life Site News.
Unfortunately, the Royal London Hospital has other goals in mind, as it has gone through the trouble of going to court for the right to take the young girl off life support.
Begum believes they are doing so because of limited “resources.”
The child, Tafida Raqeeb, suffered a ruptured blood vessel in her brain in February, and subsequently received life-saving surgery. She has since been in a minimally conscious state, and her doctors are pessimistic about her chances of recovery.
Of course, her parents do not subscribe to that, and they are even willing to transport her to a hospital in Italy. The trip has already been crowdfunded and a medical team has prepared treatment for the ailing child.
The NHS has already spent hundreds of thousands in order to prevent this, insisting that the Giannina Gaslini Institute in Genoa cannot save Tafida.
“Tafida is not dying. Tafida is not brain-dead,” Begum said during an appearance on “Good Morning Britain.” “She is gradually, gradually improving every day. Tafida is getting stronger.”
Begum said that her daughter is close to breathing completely on her own and is on the lowest possible setting on the ventilator. She said she can also move her limbs and face, and can turn her head from side to side.
Unfortunately, Britain’s government-run health care system puts severe limitations on its resources, driving people in positions of power to decide whether someone is worth the resources to save.
We’ve seen this before from the NHS. Alfie Evans was a British toddler who was accepted for treatment at an Italian hospital, only to have the opportunity rejected and be taken off life support by his own government. Before him, infant Charlie Gard was denied the right to be treated in the United States.
Cases like these should be enough to scare anyone away from government-funded health care. When you let the government foot the bill, the government, not you, makes these decisions.
It would be one thing if Tafida died after the British doctors did everything in their power to save her. It is another thing entirely when they won’t allow her parents to seek a second opinion, resulting in the death of a child.
“Doctors at the National Health Service’s Royal London Hospital believe that it is in her best interest to be removed from life support and left to die,” Life Site News reported.
What the NHS is trying to do is far beyond whatever definition they have of “the best interest” for Tafida. They aren’t simply trying to distance themselves from the moral issues with letting someone die. They are actively fighting, clawing and spending taxpayer money to prevent her from receiving potentially lifesaving care.
Tafida’s case looks grim, not only because of her health but because the doctors who have sworn to save her life (and have done so in the past) no longer see her as worth keeping alive.
Unfortunately, this evil is trying to poke through on the American political stage. Allowing this to happen will be voluntarily ceding our God-given rights to an army of incompetent bureaucrats.
Among these rights is to decide what is best for ourselves and our dependents. When we become the dependents of the state, the state gets to decide what is best. The government should have no place in this, yet that is what the left is crusading for.
Thankfully, this doesn’t seem like it’s coming to America anytime soon, but the threat will continue to build.
In the meantime, we need to hope and pray that Tafida Raqeed will be allowed to pursue a possible lifesaving solution and escape the clutches of the National Health Service.
