Apparently rioting doesn’t choose party sides, and one candidate learned that the hard way when he was jumped by supporters of an opposing candidate last weekend.
Democrat candidate Robert Zwolinski was attacked by supporters of his Democrat primary opposition, Illinois State Rep. Cynthia Soto, this past weekend. Both of these candidates are repping the color blue, and it’s not because they were gang-affiliated (although many would argue that Democrats do tend to have gang-like qualities).
Especially the supporters of this party. Just take a look at the riots that happened last night when Donald Trump landed in Chicago to speak at a rally. The whole thing had to be shut down because of security concerns when a massive protest took place outside the rally.
The weekend before, in Obama’s home state as well, Soto supporters smashed a bottle over Zwolinski’s head, according to DNA Info. A woman also pinned him down and shot a staple from a staple gun into his forehead, causing the candidate to have to rush to the hospital.

According to reports, two people were putting up signs of support for Cynthia Soto — his rival — outside of Zwolinski’s campaign office. He confronted them and was immediately jumped, causing serious injuries to his face and head.
Politics is a contact sport. Apparently that's literally the case. pic.twitter.com/wIlFIP366W

The graphic photos posted on his Facebook and Twitter accounts came along with a caption: “Politics is a contact sport. Apparently that’s literally the case.”
The young Zwolinski, 30, is running against state Rep. Cynthia Soto in the state’s 4th District. He and his girlfriend, Megan Dunworth, were driving past the office on their way home when they spotted the two suspects, a man and a woman, “lurking” near the office. Zwolinski exited his vehicle to confront the couple.
“I went up to them and said ‘Come on guys, what are you doing? This is my office,’” Zwolinski said on Monday. “Then the guy pushes his forearm against me and the woman just starts screaming ‘This isn’t your territory’ or something like that.
“Suddenly she pounces on my back and starts scratching and tearing at me, and before I know it all three of us are on the ground,” Zwolinski stated. “This girl is insane…I’ve never seen so much craziness in a person. She needs to be found and taken off the streets.”
We agree, and punished for what she and her partner in crime did to the young candidate.
Funny, isn’t it, that if gun control wasn’t so strict in Obama’s home state a crime like this might have been prevented. Gun control certainly didn’t keep this attack from happening.
Funny… but not really.
