Freedom Not Quite as Nice as Chelsea Manning Hoped...Couldn't Even Get Apartment

Share

Crime doesn’t pay … and it looks like being a traitor to your country and your uniform isn’t actually that great of a life choice either.

Bradley Manning became a leftist “hero” for leaking classified information from his position in the U.S. Army and was convicted on 17 different charges including espionage.

The liberal adoration for a convicted spy was cemented even more when Manning — now calling himself Chelsea — declared that he was transgender and demanded that the military pay for his reassignment therapy at taxpayer expense.

It turns out that the liberal counter-cultural icon is now a perfect example of how far-left philosophy fails miserably in the real world.

According to Deadline, Manning’s choices have left him unable to actually function in society and he has been homeless on and off since his sentence was commuted by former President Barack Obama.

“I’m dealing with a lot of loneliness and struggling to adjust to life,” Manning told Vogue journalist Sally Singer.

“I couldn’t get an apartment,” Manning complained.

It probably does throw a wrench in the apartment application when your last residence address was “The United States Penitentiary, Leavenworth.” Do prison guards count as references?

Manning rattled off a list of woe-is-me consequences of being an espionage convict.

Should Manning's sentence have been commuted by President Obama?

“For a while I crashed in lower Manhattan. I couldn’t move anywhere. I didn’t have a photo ID. I didn’t have access to my bank account,” he whined.

Imagine being so self-centered that you reveal classified information that could get American troops killed, and then your only regret is how tricky it is to renew your driver’s license.

The disgraced soldier should perhaps be incredibly thankful that he isn’t sitting in solitary confinement in a military prison — or facing a firing squad. Instead, Manning wants the public to feel sorry for how “lonely” he is.

“I’m not used to it,” Manning told Vogue. “I get lonely, especially at night. Some of the darkest and loneliest moments that I’ve had are at 1 o’clock in the morning.”

Manning may not be able to get a photo ID or figure out how to open a bank account, but he apparently thinks that he’s an expert on America.

“It’s become so much darker and scarier,” the ex-con declared about the country, which for seven years he saw only from inside a jail cell. “This has been decades in the making and it’s not an aberration.”

This is a window into the mindset of the modern left: Bitter and angry about the fallout of their own actions, while demanding that other people give them everything, from gender reassignment surgery to an apartment and — bizarrely — a U.S. Senate seat in Maryland.

It’s hard to tell if Manning should be mocked, or if he’s so pathetic that the appropriate response is only pity.

Sounds like the perfect candidate for Senate after all.
