CNN Host Gets Caught in Blatant On-Air Lie About Marco Rubio After Footage Surfaces

Ah, CNN. Their motto is “The Most Trusted Name in News.” I have to assume that’s a joke, much like their coverage.

If you don’t believe me, or if you’re one of those people who gets themselves worked up into a hypertensive episode every time the president refers to them as “fake news,” perhaps you ought to watch this clip from Alisyn Camerota, co-host of the network’s program “New Day.”

Camerota was talking about the hot topic of the day — stopping school violence. And she was talking with Democrat Rep. Ted Deutch, the representative in the district where the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting happened.

Camerota, clearly unbiased when it came to the issue, said that Florida Sen. Marco Rubio was more interested in making Daylight Savings Time year-round than helping make our schools safe.

“Marco Rubio, who represents Florida and was there at our CNN town hall, he introduced a bill yesterday,” Camerota asked Deutch.

“It was about Daylight Savings Time. He wants to make it year round. Do you think that helps gun violence?”

“I assume that’s a rhetorical question,” Deutch said, laughing.

“My point is things are being done in Congress, but they’re not being done on this issue of even his home state and I just want you to explain why this would be his priority,” Camerota responded.

Do you think CNN should issue a retraction and apology for Camerota's remarks?

That’s pretty damning. Except there’s just one little problem: Sen. Rubio has been one of the most tireless proponents of the STOP School Violence Act of 2018.

Here’s the Washington Free Beacon on March 6: “Sens. Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) and Orrin Hatch (R., Utah) introduced the Stop School Violence Act on Monday as a response to the Parkland shooting.

“The bill would provide grants for training law enforcement and school staff in how to spot warning signs of school violence and intervene, grants for new technology like an anonymous alert system and advanced door locks, funding for crisis intervention teams, and funding for more cooperation between schools and local law enforcement,” the Free Beacon continued.

“The senators said the bill is a direct response to the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, which left 17 dead. They said the measure could prevent future attacks of the same nature.”

But maybe Camerota didn’t get the message. After all, it’s only the Free Beacon, and we know CNN doesn’t read that. I guess this didn’t get any coverage in any other —

Oh wait, never mind.

By the way, Camerota’s Daylight Savings Time rant came the morning after the House passed the bill Rubio has championed by a vote of 407-10, making it more or less a shoo-in to pass through the Senate easily. The president has indicated he will sign it if it passes the upper chamber.

In other words, in just over a month since the Stoneman Douglas shooting, Rubio is behind the first major piece of bipartisan legislation specifically meant to prevent such incidents like that from happening again.

This is a lie of omission on an unprecedented scale, and one that is so blatant and cynical it requires an immediate retraction.
