In times of tragedy, Americans do what they do best: Pitch in and help others in need. And, in the wake of the Las Vegas massacre on Sunday, it’s not just individuals who are lending a helping hand to those affected by the carnage.
According to KTNV-TV, Allegiant Air, a Las Vegas-based low-fare carrier, is going above and beyond the call of duty offering free flights to the city for family members of those affected in the attack.
“Las Vegas is Allegiant’s hometown, and on this tragic day we are heartbroken but gratified to see the world rally around our community with so much support and love,” the company said in a statement.

“If you or your family members were affected by what happened last night, we want to help. Whether you need to fly to or from Las Vegas, please write to us at [email protected] We will do what we can to help you.”
A route map of cities where Allegiant flies to can be found here.
That’s not all the company is doing, though. Allegiant staff at McCarran Airport in Las Vegas sheltered 30 people Sunday who fled the concert after the shooting began. The airline is also reaching out to flyers who may be staying at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino or other adjacent hotels and recommending lodging elsewhere in the city.

American Airlines has also announced it will waive change fees on flights to or from Las Vegas under certain conditions, and medical flight charity Miracle Flights is also helping provide transportation to families affected by the tragedy.
Of course, it isn’t just airlines and companies pitching in to help those affected by the massacre. As The New York Times notes, blood donation lines circled around the block in Las Vegas and donations of water, food, blankets and money were pouring in.
What happened on Sunday night was a dark chapter in our country’s history — an embodiment of pure evil that took the lives of at least 59 people. However, what happened in its aftermath proved that this country will overcome evil, and we’ll do it the same way we always have: By banding together.
