While sitting in his car at a Walmart parking lot in Monticello, Arkansas, back in July of 2016, a police officer was suddenly approached by a black woman who simply wanted to talk.
In a post published to Facebook later in the day day, the woman, Tiffany Sharell Block, explained that she had felt a calling from God after the sniper attack in Dallas to reach out to a police officer and simply “extend love.”
So when she arrived at the Walmart and saw the officer’s car, she knew what she needed to do.

“So I did what God told me to do and 30-minute conversation ensued with Officer Eden,” she wrote. “He told me all about his career and some daily challenges. We got to know each other.”
But then when Block told the officer that her kids were now afraid of the police, he decided to hand them their very own badges — and that no doubt went a long way toward assuaging their concerns.
“We must start the conversation, to build relationships, to break down walls,” Block concluded. “Let’s have the hard conversations guys…. with our friends of different ethnicities, our city leaders/officials, the pastors in our communities. Tear these walls down! Let’s extend love.”

With one fell swoop, Block managed to bridge the gap between her family and their local police officers. She also showed why, as she herself wrote, “#LoveMatters.”
Forget “Black Lives Matter” and “Blue Lives Matter” for just a second, because at the end of the day, it is neither our race nor our stations in life that matter. It is in reality the love in our hearts that binds us to one another.
And it is this love which Tiffany Sharell Block managed to perfectly capture last Friday.
