Cop Makes Stomach-Churning Discovery When Traffic Stop Goes Bad -- Half a Person in Passenger Floorboard: Report
Every once in a while, a police report about a severed head will make headlines. Many of those gruesome incidents occur as a result of terrorism, gang activity or some type of freak accident.
But how many times have you heard of a police discovering half of a human body in a suspect’s car?
Probably not too often.
That’s exactly what one one Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper claims to have discovered in a car belonging to Dorrae Johnson of Knoxville, Tennessee, according to WATE.
During what was supposed to be a routine traffic stop, the trooper pulled Johnson over for alleged failure to stay in his lane at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday.
But as the trooper approached Johnson’s car door, the driver allegedly decided he didn’t want to deal with law enforcement and quickly drove off.
Authorities say Johnson yelled at the trooper as he mashed the accelerator to begin his getaway, saying he had to get to his family’s house, according to Fox News.
The trooper didn’t buy Johnson’s excuse and made the decision to chase him down.
That’s when the situation began to rapidly deteriorate, as Johnson reportedly hit a curb, blew a tire after crossing on to the wrong side of the road and — to cap things off — smashed into a utility pole.
Immediately after the crash, Johnson was subdued by the trooper.
WATE reported that the Tennessee man reeked of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes.
Johnson reportedly acknowledged that he was “blitzed” at the time.
But the story took a bizarre and disgusting turn when the trooper was finished subduing the alleged drunk driver.
“When the officer went to turn off the ignition to the car, he spotted a severed torso in the passenger floorboard that was missing its lower half,” WATE reported.
That alone would have been enough to warrant surprise from even the most seasoned of first responders.
The victim has been identified as Darryl Eugene Butler.
Half of his torso ended up in Johnson’s car, and the other half was later discovered at the scene of the crash.
Police believe Butler’s body was cut in half during the impact.
WATE reported that Johnson was “charged with vehicular assault, evading arrest and driving while license revoked.”
Though he was originally released on bond, the Knox County District Attorney’s Office has since filed a notion to revoke his bond, claiming the man poses a threat.
Drunk driving is never a wise choice, but leading police on a chase and allegedly striking a pedestrian just makes matters worse.
If Johnson is found guilty and sentenced, he no doubt faces what will likely be a long and unpleasant stay in prison.
And thank God the trooper involved in the chase ended up safe and unharmed when it was all said and done.
