Cops Issue Shock Threat to Citizens Protesting Alfie's Execution
In Britain, Big Brother is not only watching you, he wants you to know it.
As the slow-motion execution of British toddler Alfie Evans continues in a hospital in Liverpool, England, regional police have issued a chilling warning on Facebook to let users know they’re keeping tabs on anyone commenting on the case.
And dropping a not-so-veiled hint that anyone posting comments police don’t like could be in trouble with the law.
The statement quotes Chris Gibson, chief inspector of the Merseyside Police force, which covers Liverpool, and the warning is blunt:
“Chief Inspector Chris Gibson said: ‘Merseyside Police has been made aware of a number of social media posts which have been made with reference to Alder Hey Hospital and the ongoing situation involving Alfie Evans.
“I would like to make people aware that these posts are being monitored and remind social media users that any offences including malicious communications and threatening behaviour will be investigated and where necessary will be acted upon.”
If “will be acted upon” sounds like it means police squads will be banging at the doors of anyone posting comments deemed “malicious” enough, it does.The United States has First Amendment protections for freedom of speech, but Britain already has established precedents for cops hunting down social media posters they don’t approve of.
At the beginning of the year, British police tracked down and investigated at least four people in their homes for harsh comments about gangs of mostly Muslim men who sexually exploited white British girls in an organized operation that would turn the stomach of any decent human being.
In 2015, according to the U.K. Daily Mail, more than 850 people were detained in the London area for Twitter postings deemed “offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing.”
So much for civil liberties from the country that gave birth to George Orwell, and served as the setting for totalitarian nightmare “1984.”
Whatever impression Gibson and his British thought police were trying to make, the reaction to the post was largely furious — especially from the United States, where an armed citizenry isn’t used to being talked down to by police officials who say public posts “are being monitored” and “malicious communications” will have consequences.
When the socialized-medicine system of a developed country is deliberately killing a boy named Alfie Evans in a process the boy’s father has called “straight-up execution,” moral human beings have a right to be outraged.
And some of responses to the Merseyside Police post should make them think twice about issuing such “warnings” in the future.
Commenting on the Facebook post, Josh Manning, site director of the Conservative Tribune, summed up the American point of view:
“Chief Inspector, I hope you’re monitoring this.
“The government’s duty is to protect citizens’ inalienable rights. On our side of the pond, we think of them as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness …
“So, for the Brits who apparently can’t say this, I tell you and your monitors that those perpetrating this evil on Alfie, his parents, and the British people should, frankly, burn in hell as outright murderers.
“If you consider that malicious, then by all means come to America and silence me.
“You’ll have trouble, though, because unlike the citizens you’ve deprived of means to resist you, Americans can still protect our freedom with force.”
Other users were just as direct:

- “You can moniter my posts about it all you want. I hope every single adult complicit in the kidnapping, hostage holding, and murder attempts of that sweet little boy are held fully responsible. It is disgusting what you are allowing that ‘hospital’ to do. It would cost nothing but a few doctor’s pride to let him go to Italy. I hope everyone responsible rots.”
- “From a cop in the US you should be ashamed and stripped of the honor of the badge. May God have mercy on your souls but I only wish you the full bite of karma.”
Meanwhile, according to CBS, Alfie’s father, Tom Evans, is working with doctors at Alder Hey hospital to try to bring the boy home.
Now that British courts have refused to allow Alfie’s parents to take him to Italy, where treatment has been offered for free, taking the boy home might be all his family can do.
But it’s a guarantee the authorities are going to be keeping a close eye on them and their supporters no matter what happens.
Because in Britain, Big Brother really is watching. And wants you to know it.
