NY City Councilman Actively Working to Force NRA Members to Meet in Secret
Progressive leftists often tout themselves as being open-minded and tolerant toward the beliefs of others — that is, until those “others” express beliefs and ideas that run contrary to the dogma espoused by the left. When that’s the case, all bets are off.
Case in point is a recent tweet by Justin Brannan, a proudly liberal New York City councilman, who took to Twitter to essentially brag how he and his proper-thinking comrades had “chased” a group affiliated with the leftist-demonized National Rifle Association “underground” out of fear of persecution.
Brannan’s tweet included a link to a story from the Brooklyn Reporter which exposed how a group known as the Brooklyn Friends of the NRA was forced to secretly schedule an invite-only meeting and fundraising event at an undisclosed location — which the outlet gleefully revealed — after elected officials and community members had pressured two other venues to cancel that scheduled event earlier.
Brannan tweeted, “Looks like we’ve successfully chased the @NRA underground in #Brooklyn. Now they’ve gotta sneak around behind our backs and book catering halls under fake names just to have a meeting. Sounds about right.”

According to Twitchy, Brannan’s tweet sparked immediate criticism, as a multitude of people pointed out just how wrong and intolerant the councilman’s post really was.
More than a few of the commenters on his post also pointed out how he and his anti-gun comrades had effectively harassed a perfectly legal organization that advocates on behalf of a Constitutionally-protected fundamental right into hiding and essentially violated their First Amendment-protected right to peaceably assemble and freely associate with like-minded individuals.
They are your fellow citizens who hold different political views from you. Why would you want to chase them underground? Should pro life groups be chased underground?

One user referenced a recent article in The New Yorker which lamented how the fast-food restaurant Chick-fil-A had “infiltrated” New York City with its Christianty-laced chicken sandwiches, or something, and wondered if Brannan would be chasing Bible-study groups “underground” next.
That user then asked what the councilman’s reaction would be if a Republican politician had bragged about harassing and sending underground an LGBT advocacy group in a similar manner. I think we already know how that would go.

Without a doubt this New York City councilman just displayed his incredible intolerance toward those who hold a different set of beliefs from his own, and revealed how the left has no problem violating the basic rights of their fellow citizens if those wrong-thinking people don’t shut up and get in line with the progressive agenda.
