Dem Rep Says Cops Should Respond to Water Attacks by Respecting Those Communities
Are you sitting down? Some Democrats are fighting a bill “that would increase penalties for throwing water on cops,” according to Fox News.
That’s what Americans have come to expect from a place that elected Bill de Blasio as mayor and a radical socialist in the form of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the Bronx.
By now, most of us have seen despicable viral video footage of New York City Police Department officers being doused with water in July while making arrests in the borough of Queens.
Here’s a visual reminder, as if you needed it, just for bad measure:
The sickening behavior of passersby attacking the cops — who were merely taking care of business — justifiably caused an uproar from coast to coast. The feelings of law-abiding citizens who expressed outrage and disgust were completely valid.
The surreal scene was the epitome of irreverence toward our men in blue, which NYC Scanner pointed out on Twitter.

You might presume that’s one of the few subjects upon which elected officials could agree, but that’s far from the case in our tumultuous political landscape. There are always stubborn Democrats who deliberately obstruct and argue with Republican legislators at every turn.
New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie is one opposed to the measure. “I don’t know if always proposing new penalties and laws [is the answer],” he said according to the New York Post. “I think people should respect the police department but I think Police should also respect communities.”
Let me get this straight: He wants law enforcement officers to respect communities whose residents are assaulting them? Viral videos clearly show people harassing and interfering with on-duty cops, blatantly making their jobs more difficult — yet it’s the police who should be more considerate?
But Heastie isn’t alone when it comes to standing in the way of what ought to be viewed as a common-sense, surefire bill that would make it a class E felony for anyone who attacks on-duty law enforcement officers with water (or other substances).
City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams referred to the proposal a “major overreaction,” which makes him sound all wet.
So, Williams believes the proper reaction to that godforsaken incident in Queens is — what exactly? How should Americans respond when men in blue are prevented from doing what we need and expect?
Democrats and Republicans can’t even agree on protecting police officers — the very people who protect them.
This is what our country’s endless political divide has come to. Even when there are incidents and circumstances that ought to propel 100% bipartisan support, it’s all but impossible.
