Dems Have to Hate This Clip of Schumer Talking About Military Parades

Share

Many Democrats and their liberal media allies consumed by hatred for President Donald Trump took a strange stance against military parades this week, simply due to reports that Trump wanted to hold one to honor our nation’s troops.

The stance was strange because, though they are not a routine occurrence, America has held extravagant military parades on numerous occasions in the past, and Democrats have been all-in on them before — yet now they say parades are the propaganda tools of a narcissistic authoritarian dictator that simply aren’t a part our democracy.

According to The Daily Wire, it was as recent as 2014 when two top Democrats in New York — Sen. Chuck Schumer and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio — urged the Pentagon to consider holding a massive parade down Manhattan’s “Canyon of Heroes” to honor troops returning from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Check out this local CBS News report from the time to see the top Senate Democrat speak of honoring our nation’s military with a parade just four years ago:

“Now as military operations in Afghanistan draw to a close, some are calling for the Ticker Tape Parade to honor those who fought in the war on terror,” said the local reporter, according to The Daily Caller.

“After all, these men risked their lives to protect us. They experienced terrible trial and tragedy along the way,” Schumer, who was surrounded by veterans, said at the time.

“Sen. Charles Schumer is appealing to the Department of Defense for approval of a grand event up the canyon of heroes that would include military brass, color guards, military bands, and flyovers,” the reporter continued. “DOD officials say its certainly not unprecedented.”

No, they most certainly are not “unprecedented,” As The Daily Wire pointed out, massive military parades have been held since at least 1865, with major events occurring in 1919, 1942, 1946, 1953, 1957, 1961, and 1991, either during or shortly following the conclusion of every major conflict of the 20th century.

Do you support a military parade to honor our nation's troops?

Nor did Democrats oppose military parades, either. Mayor de Blasio was supportive of Schumer’s call for a parade in NYC, and stated, “The brave men and women who have selflessly served our nation with courage and skill in Iraq and Afghanistan deserve a recognition for their sacrifice. I stand with Sen. Schumer in his call for a parade to honor our veteran heroes, and New York City would be proud to host this important event.”

Yet, to hear Democrats talk about military parades now is to hear how they are just the worst thing ever, something an insecure third-world dictator would do.

In fact, according to The Washington Times, Democrat Texas Rep. Marc Veasey went so far as to introduce legislation that would prohibit the use of taxpayer funds for any sort of military parade, a bill snidely named the “Preventing the Allocation of Resources for Absurd Defense Expenditures (PARADE) Act.”

Furthermore, a leftist anti-war group called the Answer Coalition has already begun to plan a “mass mobilization” counter-protest against a potential parade, and a leftist veterans activist group has launched a petition drive against the “international disgrace” that would be a parade honoring America’s military.

The left has become so invested in their opposition to Trump that they now stand reflexively against anything he supports, in this case our nation’s men and women in uniform who have sacrificed on behalf of the country.

But they should all take a moment to look back just four years ago when they were fully in support of a non-Trump-proposed military parade, and maybe realize that they don’t have to oppose everything simply because Trump likes it.
