Radio commentator Glenn Beck’s conservative website, TheBlaze, as well as Mercury Radio Arts, another portion of Glenn Beck’s media empire, suffered a massive blow as just over 20 percent of the companies’ staffs were laid off, Beck announced Thursday.
The news has been received with mixed feelings from conservatives.
“Today, we said goodbye to just over 20 percent of the combined workforce of Mercury Radio Arts and TheBlaze (with most of the changes happening at TheBlaze),” Beck wrote.

“We are losing a lot of talented and committed colleagues, who are some of the best human beings I know — some have been friends of mine for 30 years.”
Although this has come as a shock to many, The Daily Caller also noted that the media empire has not been doing so well for some time, from Beck’s following former presidential hopeful Ted Cruz around on the campaign trail to former workers saying that it was hardly the best environment.
“It was very ambitious for a period of time,” said former TheBlaze worker Eddie Scarry, according to The Daily Caller.

“But Glenn Beck is professionally bipolar and I’m not surprised his commitment to the site as a legitimate news operation didn’t last.”
Ouch. “Professionally bipolar” is not what you want to be hearing from former employees.
Another ex-employee felt similarly.
“In the early days, it was exciting,” recalled the unnamed former employee, according to The Daily Caller.
“It felt like we were committed to doing honest journalism and building something unique. But over time things changed. It ended up being a hellish place to work. Overpaid executives took advantage of younger writers while ignoring all advice given to them about how to reinvigorate the company. It’s not surprising to see how things have turned out,” the employee stated.

Beck has a checkered reputation among conservatives as both a powerful right-wing figure but also a man who really took his sweet time getting behind now-President Donald Trump, which understandably angered many.
As far as Glenn Beck’s purpose, he claims that it “is clearer today than it has been in years: Love, Courage, Truth. As difficult as the changes we made today have been, this was an important first step in getting to where we are going.”
We will have to see how far that takes him.
