Disgraceful: Obama Visits Africans, Brags About How Rich He Is

Share

It wasn’t exactly a humble brag.

When former President Barack Obama took the stage in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Tuesday to signal all the right liberal virtues by pushing universal education, the rights to collective bargaining for labor and, of course, “progressive” taxation, he might have thought he was delivering the standard lefty line.

But what came out was the same kind of arrogant self-admiration that marked Obama’s dreadful eight years in the White House.

In the speech, Obama couldn’t help reminding his audience of just how filthy, stinking rich being president has actually made him.

“I should add, by the way, right now I’m actually surprised by how much money I got. And let me tell you something, I don’t have half as much as most of these folks or a tenth or a hundredth,” Obama said.

“There’s only so much you can eat, there’s only so big a house you can have, there’s only so many nice trips you can take. I mean, it’s enough.”

Of course, Obama’s famous for a speech where he declared that “at some point, you’ve made enough money.”

But when he gave that speech in April 2010, Obama hadn’t even glimpsed at the riches that holding the American presidency was going to mean for him.

Does this make the American presidency look bad?

By 2017, according to Forbes, Obama had made about $15.6 million from the combined sales of his two books, “Dreams from My Father” and “The Audacity of Hope” – both of which predated his time in the White House.

But that was chickenfeed compared to what Obama’s post-presidency life held. According to the Washington Free Beacon, Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama signed book deals worth $60 million.

The former first couple has also signed a deal with Netflix to produce a “series of high-profile shows,” according to The New York Times.

While the amount of the deal hasn’t been released, The Times noted that just before bringing on the Obamas, Netflix had signed a five-year deal with writer and producer Ryan Murphy worth $300 million.

Even if it’s not quite that high, it’s safe to say the Obamas will be making more by producing propaganda for Netflix than the former president’s paltry $207,800 annual pension.

And then there are the massive speaking fees Obama continues to rake in as well – speaking fees that are due solely to the fact that he is a former president.

The hyperpartisan American media might be aflutter over President Donald Trump’s performance at Monday’s summit in Helsinki, but it’s going to ignore its favorite former president bragging about how very wealthy he’s become as a result of his time in the White House.

And, as always with Obama, there was nothing humble about it.
