Even Hillary's Top 2016 Aide Would 'Do An Ankle Dive At the Door' To Keep Her From Running Again
I still wake up every morning thankful that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is not the president of the United States.
She gave it a good run last time, but Americans saw through her and preferred Donald Trump as the person for the job.
There have been quiet rumors over the last few months that Clinton might make a third run for the Oval Office. The idea is so bad that even one of her top former staffers told the media what she would do to save Clinton from embarrassing herself once more.
“If Hillary Clinton ran for office again, I would do an ankle dive at the door to not allow her to do it because I love her too much,” said Jennifer Palmieri on Thursday during an interview at The Wrap’s Power Women breakfast in Washington, D.C.
According to the Washington Examiner, Palmieri served as Clinton’s communications director during her 2016 presidential campaign. She understands that most Democrats, let alone the rest of American voters, have no interest in watching Clinton launch another failed run for the White House.
It’s impressive that Palmieri feels so strongly against her former boss running again that she would make those public remarks. Clinton should take the hint and focus on her hikes in the woods or whatever she’s doing these days.
But as honest as Palmieri was, she didn’t pass up an opportunity to blame the patriarchy for Clinton’s loss.
“I wanted her to be the first woman president, but she’s going to be the woman who showed us that it’s all broken,” she said.
“I did not think it was going to be hard or a big deal to elect the first woman president… I just did not appreciate how deep some of the perceptions that we have of women are,” she added.
Palmieri’s comments echo one of several excuses Clinton offered her supporters to explain her 2016 loss, as Fox News notes. In 2018, Clinton blamed her failed run on “misogyny and sexism.”
Palmieri also explained that the campaign failed to make Clinton appear capable of doing a job a man has always held.
“We set out to prove that it didn’t matter that Hillary was a woman, right? We set out to prove that she could do the job in the same way as it has always been done, which means as a man has always done it,” Palmieri said. “We basically were, like, forcing her, jamming her into an ill-fitting suit that was not made for her.”
In reality, one of the primary reasons that Clinton failed to garner enough electoral votes to secure the win was her decision not to campaign in the Rust Belt and some flyover states.
Trump spent plenty of time in both, paving the way to victory. His gender didn’t win him the White House; what mattered was his ability to campaign to patriotic voters in the middle of the country.
Someday America will be led by a female president. But contrary to what Clinton and her staffers think, Americans will elect the person they think is best suited for the job, gender aside.
Hillary Clinton is not that person. Nor will she ever be. Let’s just hope she takes Palmieri’s advice and spares us another cringeworthy campaign.
