Final Betrayal: Ryan's Amnesty Draft Leaks, Looks Like Biggest Amnesty in US History

Share

One of the likely keys to Donald Trump’s presidential victory in 2016 was his tough talk on immigration and his pledge to enforce border laws instead of “kicking the can down the road” on this important issue.

It seems establishment Republicans haven’t learned the lesson of that election. Instead of joining the president to stand firm on illegal immigration, leaders in the GOP appear to be preparing major legislation with a heavy emphasis on amnesty.

On Wednesday, Breitbart News reported that a draft of outgoing House Speaker Paul Ryan’s immigration deal has leaked from Washington. The proposal includes not just leniency for border crossers, but some of the most sweeping amnesty plans for illegal immigrants in history.

One of the most talked about amnesty programs to date has been DACA, the extra-congressional Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals that was pushed by President Barack Obama.

Despite the fact DACA is widely unpopular among conservatives, Ryan appears to be doubling down on it, and taking amnesty even further.

“Ryan’s immigration deal would go beyond giving amnesty to only the nearly 800,000 illegal aliens who are enrolled in the President Obama-created Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program,” Breitbart stated.

“Ryan’s plan would allow the entire ‘DACA population’ to be eligible for amnesty so long as they meet low educational, work and criminal requirements, prompting the amnesty to explode in size,” the outlet continued.

Portions of the leaked amnesty plan were shared online by that news source, and suggest that the number of illegal aliens eligible to stay in the U.S. even after breaking its immigration laws could be measured in the millions.

“This has the potential to turn into the biggest amnesty we’ve ever had,” said Rosemary Jenks, who works with the immigration research group NumbersUSA. She estimated the number of aliens eligible for amnesty under the leaked plan to be around 1.8 million.

Do you oppose these sweeping amnesty plans?

Incredibly, that number could actually be low. A second draft proposal from Ryan, called “Pathway Concept B,” would open amnesty to an even wider segment of aliens, including children of temporary foreign workers.

The leaked “Concept B” information does not include a number cap, meaning that it could potentially apply to tens of millions of illegal aliens.

“The winners are the DREAMers cause they get their amnesty, Democrats because they don’t have to concede much to get the amnesty and donor-class Republicans who are interested in perpetuating the current system,” said Jessica Vaughan, director of policy for the Center for Immigration Studies.

Blatantly missing from that list of “winners”? American voters.

“The draft amnesty for the DREAMers is a nightmare for the American people. It is not limited to the 700,000 known DACA recipients,” Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach said about similar amnesty plans.

“Instead, it appears to encompass an unlimited number of people, many of whom will claim fraudulently that they meet the minimal requirements to receive the amnesty,” Kobach added.

If such a plan were enacted, it would almost certainly trigger a new wave of illegal immigration across the border, as crowds rush to take advantage of the new system and perpetuate the same security and economic problems we already have.

Both establishment Democrats and some Republicans alike seem to view illegal aliens as a limitless source of new voters, and are playing a dangerous game in an attempt to woo them onto their voter rolls.

The problem is that this isn’t what the majority of American people support — and it could have dramatic consequences for the future direction of the country.
