GOP Funds Planned Parenthood, Now PP's Using That Money to Attack Them

Share

When it comes to Planned Parenthood, Republicans lawmakers are getting what they paid for.

The country’s largest abortion mill announced a plan Thursday to spend more than $20 million defeating Republican candidates in the fall’s midterm elections, according to The Hill.

And a congressional Republican majority that keeps shelling out $500 million a year in federal funding for the group can only hope it survives the attack it’s helped make possible.

“We think this is critical, critical for protecting, and hopefully expanding, access to reproductive health care in the states,” Deirdre Schifeling, director of the Planned Parenthood political arm Planned Parenthood Action Fund, told NPR.

“We’re sending a clear message to the politicians who made careers of undermining our freedom and rights: we’re voting you out in 2018.”

It might be infuriating to American conservatives, but it’s a message that’s a lot clearer than the one Republicans have been sending when it comes to the murderous organization.

Federal funding for Planned Parenthood is a perennial issue for the GOP – top Republicans pledge to do away with it regularly, and President Donald Trump has been making moves against it since virtually his first day in office.

But still, a half-billion dollars of taxpayer money is going to Planned Parenthood, making up about 40 percent of the group’s budget, according to most estimates.

This doesn’t mean all those public millions are going to pay the salaries for Planned Parenthood activists like Schifeling, or that the abortionists working for the group are drawing salaries directly paid for by American taxpayers.

Should taxpayer money go to Planned Parenthood?

(Planned Parenthood and its media chorus like to state that federal law prohibits using taxpayer money for abortions — liberals complain about that — so the money comes in the form of Medicaid reimbursements for services like providing birth control and treatments for sexually transmitted diseases.)

But it does mean that without taxpayer money, Planned Parenthood likely could not exist as a going concern – and certainly not in its current liberal-powerhouse form. Take 40 percent of the operating budget out of any organization and see how long it sticks around.

And that means Republicans who’ve controlled both houses of Congress since 2014, and the White House since January of 2017, are still paying the bills for an organization that’s devoted to the destruction of the GOP congressional majority, and the presidency of Donald J. Trump.

Of course, Planned Parenthood’s actual politics are the least of its sins.

First and foremost, the group is responsible for ending the lives of more than 330,000 babies annually (and with an employee incentive system that’s truly sickening.)

But the barbarity doesn’t end with destroying babies in the womb. Planned Parenthood has been busted by a series of undercover videos negotiating the sale of the body parts of dismembered children.

And still Republicans can’t seem to turn off the spigot of taxpayer money to savages like that.

As conservative commentator Nicole Russell wrote in a piece published by the Washington Examiner in January:

“The only reason Congress, which boasts a Republican majority, hasn’t defunded Planned Parenthood is because they lack the grit and fortitude they need to do so. There’s no reason, with the overwhelming, damning evidence against Planned Parenthood, that they shouldn’t be stripped of $500 million. If Congress can pass a tax bill, they can do this, and they should this year.”

Trump’s proposed budget released in February takes another stab at that, but “grit and fortitude” have been in short supply among Republicans for far too long when it comes to the abortionists at Planned Parenthood.

That hands-off attitude is going to be coming back to hurt the Republicans in the fall campaigns.

If it hurts enough to make Democrats the House majority — and create the inevitable impeachment hearings that will soon follow — Republicans will know they got what they paid for.
