Gov. Huckabee's Take on Donkeys, Reporters, and Striped Shirts Is Dead On
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee certainly has a way with words.
Now a tweet of his about donkeys, reporters and striped shirts has the media circus summed up perfectly.
In the tweet, Huckabee was responding to Washington Post White House bureau chief Philip Rucker, who had pointed out that White House press secretary Sarah Sanders (Huckabee’s daughter) had accused the media of attacking President Donald Trump immediately after the news broke of Saturday’s mass murder at a Pittsburgh synagogue.
“Reason @PressSec said it is because it’s true,” Huckabee wrote.
“I long for the day when I can’t figure out who the media is rooting for. Real journalists wear striped shirts; today’s media wear team jerseys-90% with a donkey logo.”

Huckabee, with his allusion to the media’s ideal role as impartial referees, hits the nail on the head with modern American journalism’s “jerseys.”
The donkey logo refers to the Democratic mascot, implying that most of today’s media has a very obvious agenda against Republicans — and especially the Republican in the White House.
Most of the mainstream media has treated Trump with utter disrespect since his inauguration. Examples of journalists sparring with the president can be found all over the internet, and are now almost a weekly occurrence.
Reporters themselves aren’t the only enemy Trump seems to have in media. Their employers can be pretty blatant about it, too.
The New York Times recently published a piece of assassination fiction, picturing a Russian and the president’s own Secret Service detail working together to kill Trump.
Many Twitter users agreed with Huckabee’s post. Although there are always trolls, most responses were supportive and encouraging — to Huckabee, if not to the media.

Although many unbalanced liberals have described Trump’s treatment of the media as something similar akin to a dictator, in reality his administration — including Sarah Sanders — has dealt with reporters with fairness and patience.
And if the 2018 elections result in even a slight advantage for Republicans, it’s virtually guaranteed that the media will simply ramp up the rhetoric of the previous two years instead of changing their tone.
If, however, the media succeed in getting enough Democrats elected in the November elections to take control of Congress, reporters may have a chance to fawn over progressives in office.
Preventing that from happening is just one more reason every Republican needs to get out and vote in the midterm elections.
