An attempt by a Trump administration official to poke fun at Rep. Trey Gowdy on his 53rd birthday Tuesday boomeranged big time when the seasoned South Carolina legislator fired back with an epic quip.
The fun started that afternoon when Mick Mulvaney, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, asked his followers on Twitter, “What do you get for someone on his 60th birthday?”
“A razor and a comb,” He added. “Happy birthday, @TGowdySC.”

Obviously, the tweet was meant to be in fun and joviality, since, one, Gowdy’s hair is the bomb, and two, he isn’t 60 years old.

And so Gowdy, being the clever guy he is — recall that he’s the same fellow who once accused former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of scrubbing her emails so thoroughly that “even God couldn’t read them” — responded in kind.

“I’m just a couple of haircuts away from equaling the number of staff departures by your WH colleagues,” he wrote. “I get it. You are hard to work with.”
BOOM.

Though meant as just a lighthearted quip, that was one heck of a doozy.
At least 15 top-level White house officials have either resigned, been fired, been dismissed or been reassigned since President Donald Trump took office seven months ago, including now former Chief of Staff Reince Priebus.

For comparison, consider that former Presidents Barack Obama and George Bush’s first chiefs of staff remained for 620 and 1,911 days, respectively, while Trump’s lasted only 189 days, according to Politifact. (Granted, the outlet sometimes lies but didn’t this time.)
But the fun feud wasn’t quite over.
“If I could defund your haircuts, I would,” Mulvaney replied in a final tweet.

This wasn’t the first time the two had traded insults. On Mulvaney’s 50th birthday just last month, Gowdy wrote that he had “(h)onestly thought Mick Mulvaney turned 50 years ago.”
“Was wrong,” he added. “Happy 50th Micky.”
Honestly thought Mick Mulvaney turned 50 years ago. Was wrong. Happy 50th Micky.

Next came the Mulvaney’s retort:

I'd like to call out @TGowdySC. He's hiding two deep, dark secrets:
#1 He's much older than I am.
#2 He needed CBO's help counting to 50. https://t.co/ceJLZ83T9b— Mick Mulvaney (@MickMulvaneyOMB) July 20, 2017
But don’t get it twisted. Just because these two know how to have some fun now and again doesn’t mean they don’t take their jobs seriously — because they do, and Democrats better not forget that.
