It Happened Again, This Time to a Woman: Border Patrol Agent Killed
They’re demonized. They’ve become a target of the left’s hatred simply because they enforce the law. And if you’re an American, you should thank your lucky stars every day that these unsung heroes keep you safe.
Border Patrol Agent Donna Doss was killed Saturday night in Tye, Texas, while she was assisting with a traffic stop, according to a statement from Customs and Border Protection issued Sunday.
“At 8:50 p.m. Saturday, Agent Doss, a 49-year-old Resident Agent, with the United States Border Patrol, in Abilene, TX responded to a call for assistance from Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) trooper on the Interstate 20 frontage road,” the statement read.
“While on scene, she was struck and killed by a passing vehicle. Emergency Medical Services responded, but Agent Doss succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The incident remains under investigation by TXDPS.”
Houston television station KTRK reported the second vehicle wasn’t part of the original stop. The accident happened as Doss was checking the immigration status of a driver who had been pulled over.

“Agent Doss served in the Border Patrol for more than 15 years and is survived by her husband, father, mother, two step-children, sister and two brothers,” the CBP statement read.

According to the Washington Examiner, Doss’ Abilene unit is based 250 miles north of the border. It concentrates on vehicle checks involving individuals traveling on Interstate 20, which runs through the city.
“Agent Doss died while performing her duty, protecting the community and the United States,” Border Patrol Del Rio Sector acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew Hudak said, according to KHOU.
“Our heart, prayers, and support go out to Agent Doss’ family in this time of need.”
Doss’ death comes 14 months after the death of Rogelio Martinez, an agent who died in November of 2017 outside of Van Horn, Texas.
No official cause was determined for the injuries that killed Martinez, who was found dead in a culvert with blunt force wounds to the head, according to Fox News. However, an FBI investigation that concluded last year said there was no evidence to support a theory he was attacked, Fox reported.
A Border Patrol colleague who was also injured at the scene told a dispatcher the two men might have fallen into a culvert, but he had no memory of the incident because of his injuries, according to Fox.
Doss became the 128th individual — and fourth woman — to die in the line of duty for the Border Patrol.
While Doss’ death got media coverage, the descriptions were usually brief.
There wasn’t any murder to speak of, it appears. Even if as an accident, we don’t know if there was any moving violation involved. Yet the fact that Doss is dead in the line of duty speaks to how dangerous the job of being a Border Patrol agent can be.
These unsung heroes are often subject to abuse and invective from the left. Remember the not-infrequent comparisons with Nazi Germany during the family separations controversy last year?
The Border Patrol is made up of men and women who protect us from cartels that traffic drugs and human beings, among other things. They assist state and local police with their mission. They’re men and women with families and children, men and women who sometimes don’t come home to those families or children.
And yet, the left has too often made them a focal point for their problems with law enforcement and the Trump administration. Liberal critics aren’t going to do the hard work of going out in the field and checking someone’s immigration status, which is what Agent Doss died doing. Simply don’t do it, they’ll say.
They don’t want a wall that would stop bad actors. Progressives would rather pretend the problem doesn’t exist.
You’ll hear a Border Patrol agent called many things in the media, but scarcely ever a hero.
Maybe, with the death of Agent Doss, finally there’s an opportunity to appreciate the job Border Patrol members do and the sacrifice that they make. They deserve it.
Perhaps we can even push for a section of the new wall to be named after her.
