Hillary Clinton Causes A DNC Rift With Fundraiser Announcement
Hillary Clinton. A fundraiser in New York City. All for her new foundation, which I’m sure will take its fiduciary responsibility to deliver the maximum of charity for the minimum amount of overhead, just like the last one.
What could possibly go wrong?
Well, as it turns out, Hillary didn’t check her social calendar before she booked the arrangement in Gotham, because her fundraiser will be competing with one being held by DNC Chairman Tom Perez.
And they’re not days or even hours apart. Oh, no. They’re at the exact. Same. Time.
Proving that she will never stop haunting the DNC, the New York Post reports that Clinton is coming to down on April 30 to raise funds for her “Onward Together” organization.
Back in 2016, when she started the group in the wake of her election loss, Clinton offered positions as charter members on the Onward Together Leadership Council for a cool $10,000.
“Charter members . . . are an esteemed network of supporters who pledge to contribute $10,000 and up. Members will receive updates, briefings and invitations,” an email said at the time.
However, “Onward Together” hasn’t really made as much of a splash as the Clinton Foundation had; it’s mostly aimed at helping support young political leaders.
Even though she isn’t the party’s candidate anymore, however, she’s still doing harm to the DNC.
See, Perez will be giving a speech at Kramer Levin, a prominent Manhattan law firm.
The topic is ostensibly talking strategies that the Democrats plan to follow in the 2018 midterms, and while the event isn’t technically a fundraiser — the law firm doesn’t allow them, in fact — there will likely be a bit of passing the hat in the form of “a follow-up cash ask.”
Some Democrat insiders are furious at Clinton’s decision to go head to head with Perez.
“The issue is the optics,” the Democrat said.
“What the hell is wrong with the Democrats that they can’t manage to schedule non-conflicting events?”
“It will be interesting to see who goes to Hillary and who goes to Tom,” another said.
Right, which might be the only interesting thing about the evening, unless you’re a dipsomaniac in search of an open bar.
Clinton’s people didn’t have a comment, because of course they didn’t. However, it’s telling that she didn’t even consider this.
After all, with her, it’s never about the party or the movement. It’s all about her. Of course, that’s good news if you don’t want to see the DNC meeting its fundraising goals (we certainly don’t), but you can’t help but wonder what she was thinking of. I mean, aside from herself.
