Huck Has Hilarious Response After Kentucky Makes Sarah Honorary Colonel
It’s every father’s dream: Watching a son or daughter become a successful adult, then proudly bragging about his kids even as they go on to match or exceed what their parents accomplished.
There was a point when Mike Huckabee was one of the most well-known conservatives in America. Maybe it was when he first ran for president in 2008, gaining a reputation as a warm and level-headed voice of the right.
Or possibly Huckabee’s fame hit its peak when he moved into political commentary, becoming a familiar face on Fox News during the Obama years. To be sure, he’s still pretty well known, but it must give him a thrill as a dad to see that his daughter is arguably more of a household name than he is these days.
We’re talking of course about Sarah Sanders, the tough-as-nails press secretary for President Donald Trump.
Being the face of the often chaotic administration is no easy task, yet Sanders pulls it off with a combination of strength and patience that ought to qualify her for sainthood. Oh, and she does it all while also raising three kids of her own.
Mike Huckabee has a lot to be proud about, but his increasingly famous daughter just added another unusual accolade to her trophy case.
On Aug. 25, she was made an honorary Kentucky Colonel by Republican Gov. Matt Bevin — and Huck couldn’t resist cracking a joke about it on Twitter this weekend.
Last week @PressSec spoke in KY and @MattBevin (one of the best Governors in the nation) made her an honorary KY Colonel. That makes her Col Sanders! I'm so proud of her! I just hope she will share the secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices.

“Last week (Sarah) spoke in KY and Matt Bevin (one of the best Governors in the nation) made her an honorary KY Colonel,” Huckabee wrote.
“That makes her Col Sanders! I’m so proud of her! I just hope she will share the secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices,” he quipped.
Sure enough, a photo showed Bevin holding an official certificate giving Sanders the ceremonial position. It wasn’t clear what powers the new rank came with; whether or not National Guardsmen must salute her or go on KFC runs at her command is still a bit of a mystery.
Joking aside, Huckabee was clearly just having some fun bragging about his daughter, something that every father can identify with. Predictably, however, bitter critics of the press secretary used even this honor to attack her online.
“She will tell you but it won’t be the truth,” shot out one user on Twitter.
“(S)urely you abhor that your daughter is a liar. A paid liar,” attacked another.
The response wasn’t all abrasive, however. Other Twitter users joined in the fun.
“Tell (CNN reporter Jim) Acosta he had better straighten up or she will make him a bit ‘crispy,'” one person joked.
At the end of the day, there’s a time and place for politics … and a time when it should be set aside in favor of respecting family and their bonds.
It’s great to see how well Mike Huckabee and Sarah Huckabee Sanders get along, and even though her “promotion” is only honorary, it’s definitely deserved.
