There is no question that the U.S. military and allied forces, unleashed by President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary James Mattis, have utterly crushed the would-be caliphate of the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria.
Unfortunately, much like a light being turned on in an unkempt kitchen, the roaches have merely scattered to various corners far and wide, and still present a very real threat to the rest of the world, particularly Western civilization.
The Hill recently noted that a plethora of Islamic State group propaganda posters have emerged recently that call for and threaten lone wolf attacks in various cities and important sites across Europe and the U.S., timed to coincide with Christmas and New Year celebrations.

While such threats are nothing new, and have been taken by some as a sign of the group’s weakening position, they must still be taken quite seriously, particularly since they show that the organization has adapted their techniques to get around counterterrorism efforts by Western nations.
According to the U.K. Daily Mail, some of the propaganda posters threatening holiday attacks in Europe explicitly mention that they will be carried out on foot, obviously a bid to get around the anti-vehicle bollards that have been installed in many locations to guard against the increasingly common vehicle attacks.
One of the posters, which shows an armed and masked jihadist lurking in the background, declared, “If you put barriers to cars in front of markets, you will not prevent people entering them on foot.”

The propaganda is believed to have originated from an Islamic State group entity known as the Wafa Media Foundation, and even as their caliphate in Iraq and Syria continues to vanish, they are urging followers to strike all over the world to prove that they haven’t been defeated yet.
“Wafa Media Foundation specialises in these types of graphics,” explained Rita Katz, director of the SITE Intelligence Group, which tracks jihadist propaganda. “Wafa’s threat, like others recently issued by pro-ISIS media groups, is a specific attack directive within a larger push by ISIS for lone wolf attacks as it rapidly loses territory in Iraq and Syria.”
“Though these threats should be taken seriously, there is also a publicity element to pro-ISIS media groups’ threats against places like the Vatican or events like 2018 FIFA World Cup,” she added.
Indeed, locations across the globe need to be on high alert this holiday season, particularly in places where there will be large gatherings of people that will provide a soft target to jihadists seeking to inflict mass casualties.
The U.K. Metro noted that the Islamic State group has named New York City as a potential site of a Christmas terrorist attack, with a poster showing Santa Claus overlooking Times Square while standing next to a box of dynamite.

Another poster threatening a Christmas attack showed Santa on his knees with his hands bound while a masked jihadist bearing a knife stood behind him, obviously in preparation for a beheading.
Other posters have specifically mentioned popular locations in London and Paris, not to mention the Vatican in Rome — which was featured in a poster showing a jihadist with a lone wolf and a rocket launcher overlooking the city.
Let us hope that all the anti-vehicle security barriers that have sprouted up across Europe and the U.S. to prevent vehicle attacks were not erected in vain, and security measures have also been put in place to guard against lone or small groups of jihadists attacking innocent victims on foot with guns, knives and explosives.
