A Muslim refugee in Australia who was charged with raping a 10-year-old boy presented the court with the most shocking reason for why he did it, and that reason is exactly why our country needs a rigorous screening process for refugees wishing to cross our borders.
Mufiz Rahaman, 20, pleaded guilty to the charge and told Sydney’s Downing Centre Court raping children was not seen as morally wrong in his home country of Myanmar.
Judge Scotting said Rahaman did not understand his actions nor could he grasp why they would physically and psychologically damage the boy. He also said since Rahaman insisted sexual assault was not viewed as morally wrong in his homeland and did not accept responsibility for his actions, he demonstrated a “lack of morality,” the U.K. Daily Telegraph reported (via the U.K. Daily Mail).
Rahaman denied raping the child, but the boy told his father he had been raped.
Police arrested Rahaman two days after the incident when a family member reported it to the police. Results from a DNA test matched semen found on the boy.
The pedophile was sentenced to five years in jail.
Rahaman immigrated to Australia with a group of Rohingya Muslim illegal immigrants from Bangladesh in 2012. The boy was also a refugee in the same group.
Rahaman preyed on the young boy while living with the group at a vacant club in Lakemba in January 2015. He sneaked into the child’s bedroom when his father was making lunch and raped him, according to court documents.
Rahaman’s explanation of why he raped this little boy was a wake-up call for Western countries who fail to see the danger some refugees from different cultures can pose. Some cultures simply don’t see sexual assault as the crime that it is in the West, and that “rape culture” is something we need to be aware of and guard ourselves against.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time an immigrant rapist didn’t see a problem with raping a child.
Our safety begins with leaders who understand the threat that comes from a weak screening process that allows perverts to slip through the cracks.
