Liberals Triggered After Receiving Presidential Alert, But It Was Obama Who Authorized It

Share

A test notification was sent to phones across the United States on Wednesday. With a loud and unique tone, the test caught many Americans off-guard. What stuck out the most were two words at the top: Presidential Alert.

Liberals were furious.

Michael Moore said the alert was part of President Donald Trump’s sinister plan to “justify the end of democracy as we know it.” Dan Pfeiffer, a CNN contributor, even pulled the tired “what if Obama did it” line in an attempt to insult conservative media.

Not only does Trump’s very existence trigger them, but they now have to live with the fact that Trump effectively has them on speed dial.

To understand the hypocrisy of their outrage, we need to step back to the year 2016.

And if there’s one thing liberals loved in 2016, it was Barack Obama. They didn’t make a peep as he aggressively strengthened his own powers and privileges during his two terms as president. Under Obama, the most powerful office in the world got much, much stronger.

So it’s easy to see why the outcome of the 2016 election hit the left like a ton of bricks. Liberals’ worst fear had been realized: Donald Trump won the Oval Office.

Within weeks, panic and hyperbole took over.

Headlines compared the president-elect to Adolf Hitler. Many predicted a recession. Some even hinted at civil war.

One from New York Magazine specifically promised something more Trump-like: “Starting January 20, Donald Trump Can Send Unblockable Mass Text Messages to the Entire Nation.”

With the tone of that headline, you’d be forgiven for thinking Trump was planning to text “CNN is fake news” to nearly 330 million Americans.

And although Trump did use the system, it wasn’t his idea to begin with.

In fact, he didn’t even sign it into law.

The presidential alert is just another one of Obama’s many powers he granted to himself. Signed in 2016, the law gives the president the ability to send unblockable cellphone alerts about public safety emergencies, according to Reuters.

The lesson here, which is bound to go over the collective heads of liberals everywhere, is that the government will eventually be run by someone you dislike. This is the nature of a republic, and a very sobering check to keep the power of government limited.

With all the extra powers Obama built into the presidency, Trump is sure to deliver a few more of those lessons before his time is up.
