Libs Freak Out over Trump's Phone Call to Girl, Her Parents Had Nothing but Praise for Him

Share

In keeping with tradition, President Donald Trump and first lady Melania manned a pair of special phones in the Oval Office on Christmas Eve to answer calls from children seeking updates from the North American Aerospace Defense, or NORAD, on where Santa Claus and his flying reindeer-powered sleigh was currently being tracked along his global delivery route.

It’s been an enjoyable tradition in the White House in the past, and Monday night seemed to be no exception.

Except for liberals, of course.

The first lady tweeted, “Helping children across the country track #Santa is becoming one of my favorite traditions! @Potus and I enjoyed working with @NORADSanta – #ChristmasEve”

Naturally, the Trump-hating liberal media had to find something with which to attack and disparage the president, so some news outlets seized on a call he had received from a 7-year-old girl during which the president had asked her if she still believed in Santa. “

Are you still a believer in Santa?” Trump asked. “Because at 7 it is marginal, right?”

The critical coverage of the lighthearted moment by the media was clear in the insinuation that Trump had essentially ruined the little girl’s Christmas by calling into question the very existence of Santa …

But follow up interviews with the little girl and her parents revealed that wasn’t how they had viewed the moment at all.

BuzzFeed — quite surprisingly, of all media outlets, considering its staunch stance against Trump — reached out to the parents of 7-year-old Collman Lloyd and then actually published what they had to say about the phone call between their daughter and the president on Christmas Eve.

Check out the girl’s end of the phone call here.

And here it is from the White House point of view:

The girl’s father, Donald Lloyd, revealed he had no problem with what the president had said — indeed, he suggested he would have used similar language with herto eventually discuss the existence of Santa — and that he thought the whole thing had been overtly politicized and blown out of proportion by the media.

“I think it’s crazy it became a big deal. It’s Christmastime,” he told BuzzFeed. “I’d love to keep politics out of Christmas.”

As to the president’s choice of words, Lloyd added, “It didn’t bother me — I like to talk to my kids like adults.”

BuzzFeed received a similar reaction from the girl’s mother, Erica Lloyd, a third-grade teacher who praised the president for his generosity in spending the time to speak with children on Christmas Eve.

“I’m a teacher. I’m OK with the vocabulary,” she told BuzzFeed. “He was very kind. I was very impressed with the phone call.”

The parents further informed BuzzFeed that they had been “in shock” when their daughter’s phone call to NORAD had been transferred to the White House after a brief period on hold, only to hear the actual president begin to speak instead of a recording, as they had expected.

“Don and I looked at each other and said, ‘surely, this is a recorded message,’” Erica recalled, according to BuzzFeed.

But when they heard Trump use the girl’s first name, they suddenly realized it was, in fact, a live call.

“We were in shock, we really thought it was a recorded message.” The mother said of the phone conversation between the president and her daughter, “made her Christmas.” She later added that it was a moment her young daughter “will never forget.”

For her part, little Collman told BuzzFeed she had been “feeling kind of excited and just, like, shocked” that she was able to actually speak with the president.

“I thought he would have plans on Christmas Eve,” she said.

Does the media go too far in trying to attack Trump over every little thing?

It is also worth noting that the little girl didn’t quite understand what Trump had meant when he suggested that a belief in Santa at the age of 7 was “marginal,” nor was Christmas ruined for her forever, as she still professed a belief in Santa Claus.

Her father professed a bit of confusion about Trump’s use of the word “marginal” as well, and said, “The way he used it … I’m not sure exactly what he meant by it. It’s an interesting use of language.” He added, “That conversation was a tad awkward over the rest, but I didn’t have an issue with any of that.”

Many children across America grow up believing in Santa Claus, but generally come to understand the truth of his existence between the ages of 7 and 10, roughly, meaning Trump was absolutely right to wonder about the girl’s beliefs as she was within the range of where such beliefs are “marginal.”

The Trump-hating media may have overplayed this situation — as they routinely do — but the parents saw nothing wrong with it, and it was yet another lighthearted moment between Trump and a child that undermines the narrative that he is a heartless and cruel man who hates little kids.
