Limbaugh Uses Notre Dame Fire as Example To Point Out Everything Wrong in Liberal Media
The world watched in horror on Monday as the media provided coverage of the raging inferno that caused significant damage to the famed and historic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, that has stood as a beautiful symbol of Christianity and Western civilization for more than 850 years.
There was one aspect of the media’s coverage of the Notre Dame fire that was sorely lacking, however, that being any sort of discussion of the possibility that the devastating fire was caused by something other than a construction accident, which was the immediate determination by French authorities even as firefighters struggled to put out the blaze.
To be sure, there is no direct evidence at this time to suggest that the fire was caused by arson or an act of terrorism, but the media’s swift and concerted effort to shut down any hint of discussion about those possibilities caught the attention of conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh, who spent some time during his Tuesday program talking about that rather odd media reaction in that regard.
Limbaugh said the media’s handling of the Notre Dame fire was “as fascinating a case study as almost everything is these days with the Drive-By Media, the media left, the media-Democrat complex.”
“The Notre Dame Cathedral fire. It is simply unacceptable. It is not tolerable. You must not even breathe the possibility of arson, because if it’s arson then fingers will point in one direction, and we’re not gonna point in that direction. We’re not gonna permit fingers to point. We’re not gonna even allow thoughts in that direction. No, no, no, no, my friends,” Limbaugh said.
Limbaugh noted that there was no denying that France, and much of Western Europe, has suffered from a series of church arsons and vandalism over the past couple of years, yet the mainstream media had no desire to discuss or even allow for the mention of the notion that there may be some connection there.
“This is simply head-in-the-sand denial, to refuse to openly accept what is happening throughout France and throughout Europe. And the very idea that there is this concerted effort coupled with a demand to ignore all of this in my nature is all I need to believe that maybe there are some things going on that everybody knows and some just will not admit and will not permit discussion of,” he said.
“Because there is no denying that attacks on churches in France and all over Europe are on the upswing. It’s undeniable. It’s not all arson. Not random arson. And everybody knows this.”
Limbaugh said the “sanctimonious concern” of the media about the Notre Dame fire came across as “hollow” to him in light of the fact that the media has largely ignored the rampant attacks against Christianity and churches throughout Europe, Africa and even in America, to a lesser extent.
Limbaugh noted how the media’s handling of the Notre Dame fire fit in with the recent acceleration of the media trend that has come to be known by some on the right as “conservatives pounce,” or how the media makes virtually every story about either how bad conservatives really are or how terribly conservatives react to bad news for liberals.
“Any story that comes out, any story, if the story is a negative for the Republicans or for conservatives, then that alone is the story,” Limbaugh explained.
“However, if a story emerges that is bad for the left, like the Covington kids or the Mueller report or anything, anything that is bad for the left, anything that’s bad for the media, guess what the story is? The story is not the story. The story is the right’s reaction to it.”
“And so the conservative Republican segment of our population is always the target of any story, especially stories that are bad for the left, especially stories that point to the hypocrisy of the left,” he added.
In the case of the Notre Dame fire, Limbaugh said, “any attempt to bore in on a possibility outside of arson is met with, ‘That’s a conspiracy theory. You’re a kook. You’re dangerous. We know you want to blame Muslims, and we’re not gonna let you blame Muslims. We know that Muslims couldn’t be responsible. And even if they are, no, we’re not going there, we’re not going.’”
To be sure, Limbaugh was not saying that he necessarily believed that the Notre Dame fire was caused by arson or an act of terror, but merely expressed his observation of the media’s concerted and obvious attempts to silence any speculation in that regard.
Circling back to the established pattern of attacks on churches across France and Europe in recent months and years, and citing official French authority figures, Limbaugh said, “From 2016 to 2018 there have been thousands of cases of church vandalism, thousands of cases of church — not synagogue, not mosque — church vandalism. Thousands of cases from 2016 to 2018, two years. It peaked in 2017, 1,045 cases of church vandalism in France.”
“But we’re supposed to ignore that. That’s not relevant. Anybody that wants to look at that is a crazed conspiracy theorist,” he added.
Nobody knows for sure how the fire that nearly destroyed the magnificent Notre Dame Cathedral began, and it could quite possibly be nothing more than a horrible accident caused by carelessness.
However, until that cause is determined in a verifiable way, other possibilities should at least be a part of the discussion until they can be ruled out authoritatively, and members of the establishment media lack that authority to dictate what can and can’t be discussed.
