Man Getting Rave Reviews for Delivering Pizza with a Side of Christmas

Share

I’ve never thought of cheer as something you could order with a meal. I know that some people do, judging by the fact that “Holly Jolly Christmas” talks about having a cup of it, although I think you probably shouldn’t drive after having that.

If you’re looking for something less adult beverage-ish, perhaps Domino’s delivery driver Dean Bryant has the perfect remedy for you. If you order a pizza or some chicken wings, he’ll bring you a lit Christmas tree along with it.

According to WDBJ-TV in Roanoke, Virginia, Bryant has been spreading some holiday spirit through the back of his pickup truck in Lexington.

“The (Washington and Lee University) students had left for Christmas break and they threw a tree away,” Bryant told the station.

“Had the lights on it, had a stand, had everything, just threw it away,” he said. “And I was like, I hate to see anything go to waste.”

So Bryant decided to incorporate it into his truck and deliver some holiday spirit along with some pies.

“I come up with the idea of strapping it in the truck and plugging it into the inverter, converter and riding around with it,” he said. “Everyone liked it.”

Domino’s franchisee Rush Earman, who employs Bryant, said, “We get positive calls about it every time he goes out with it, because people see it.

Would you want your pizza delivered by a guy with a tree in his truck bed?

“And it’s not very many people that drive around with a completely lit Christmas tree in the back of their pickup truck, so it does attract attention. You’re right about that.”

You might not be surprised to learn that this isn’t the first time that Bryant has earned some smiles for his choice of truck decor.

“People know him as the duck truck guy,” Earman said.

“Duck truck?” Yes, when he’s not getting noticed for having a huge, lit Christmas tree in the bed of his trunk, Bryant is known for having dozens of rubber ducks on the dashboard.

“People tell me all the time: I love your tree, love the decorations,” Bryant said. “It’s just fun to do.”

And it’s a fun thing to witness, one imagines. I’m not in Virginia, but I would definitely appreciate having my pizza delivered with a Christmas tree attached. I have my own tree, mind you, but if there’s one thing better than one Christmas tree it’s two of them.

That’s the goal, according to Earman.

“Are you making the customers smile? And that is big,” he said. “I mean, if he can make the customer smile by looking at his truck and going: ‘What did you do?’”

Bryant had a simpler explanation for why he does it: “I like to see people happy. There’s not enough of that in the world today.”

Indeed there’s not. Have a cup of cheer, Virginians.
